I think there were instances of overdiagnosis in the 1990s and maybe early 2000s but I also think we're past that now. We'll see what happens as a result of ADHD being a "cool trending topic" on TikTok though.
I've been on medication for a decade. It's been seriously helpful. I tried going without earlier this year and failed. But I don't see it as an "enhancement" any more than I see my glasses or my anti-tumor medicine as "enhancements."
I’ve taken them since october last year (though I’ve had a diagnosis laying around since 2013). I have no intention of stopping. I don’t think I’m “stable” enough in general to stop, it’s too easy to fall into bad habits/negative spirals. Occasionally I’ve skipped for a day but those days are getting fewer and further from each other. I think there’s a nice sentiment behind the idea that we shouldn’t just put substances in the bodies of children for instance, because they don’t fit the norm. I like concerta and the productivity it gives me, but I fully acknowledge that stimulants are not for everyone. It’s not a magic bullet, and I fully understand the frustration of some adhd:ers who get told time and time again to “just take the pills”, even if they don’t help. Even I can sometimes feel less productive on concerta than without it.
Do you still using adhd meds? Can you summerise past period with meds in video, how you felt and what is your opinoin on long therm usage of meds? Do you considered to stop taking it?
I switched from Adderall to Concerta about a year ago . I used Adderall long term over five years and the side effects were not tolerable . Concerta feels much more natural to me and safe with almost no side effects. I agree with the 36mg I went to 54 and switched back to 36. It’s safe long term I have read studies on children taking it into adulthood then stopped with no neurological damage .
Hello Michael, thank you for sharing that. I always wondered myself, how Adderall feels like compared to Concerta since its not available here where I live.
Hey Max, I know...I have been very busy with my day job, basically consumed my days, lol. I need to start posting regularly again :) Hope you are alright :)
I am from Lithuania. And the increased use of ADHD medication in my country may be related to the fact that 40 or 50 years ago psychiatrists and psychologists did not know much about ADHD. And at that time Lithuania was part of the Soviet Union (Russia) and all the "badly behaved" children were sent to closed boarding schools... In general, there was no normal treatment for mental illness in the Soviet Union. If you had a mental disorder, you were simply isolated.
Hello Inga, I was born in Estonia myself :) Yeah those times were crazy. Glad that we have evolved atleast some countries. I cannot possibly imagine how it was like back then in soviet union...
My son is so hyperactive and argumentative that if he didn’t take medication 3 times a day he wouldn’t be able to live with us or even go to a normal school. We have a 21 yr old out in the real world he was never dx or medicated or supported for his ADHD and he is not doing well at all.
Hello Jody, thank you for sharing your experience, right medication can do wonders for person.I myself wish I was diagnosed in my 20s...that was rough time for me..
@@celine9322 I’m 42 and my husband and I have 4 boys ALL of them are on the spectrum and our only girl has been diagnosed with a rare genetic syndrome DDX3X
The way I see it, there is a rise in ADHD medication prescriptions because there has been a rise in number of people being diagnosed with ADHD.
Hey I know you! Good point, hope you are doing alright. I miss uploading videos every week since I started new job :/
