What do you think Modern Fantasy should bring back from other eras?

I wish modern fantasy would bring back adventure stories that have charming and thought-provoking life lessons. Grim-dark is fine, but it gets to be a bit much, to the point where it feels like they put in sex and violence as a way of jingling keys in our face to keep our attention.

To be honest I myself view Grimdark as a loose middle ground for epic fantasy and sword & sorcery. I love the moral complexity.

Yeah, I like the grittiness and the more visceral writing, Joe Abercrombie is up there for me

I grew up on watching the old disney classics on tape and I still prefer most of the originals to the remakes. The whole mary sue feminist trope has been taken too far since then and its made newer movies so boring compared to the classics. You can have strong female characters just dont make them act like a talking wrecking ball.

Feminism is great but the story should have some realism with the era it’s portraying right? If feminist philosophy wasn’t a thing back then, it doesn’t make sense that the female characters would act and be informed by the movement. The characters should be the product of their time and environment
