    I just gotta say, amazing job!! I’ve been a lead sculptor/designer at Walt Disney Imagineering since ‘97 and I created all of the pirate skeletons in the grotto when we refurbished Pirates Of The Caribbean in ‘06, and I gotta say this looks better than the real one in the ride!! You killed it! I absolutely love it and wish it was hanging in my house! Well done!🏴‍☠️☠️😄🍻👍🏴‍☠️

      Wow, I'm flattered, thanks! That must have been a cool project-- always been a fan of those skeletons. We'll have to talk...

    You are a master craftsman! This replica is by far the best I’ve seen. I’d think it was the actual one from the PoftheC ride! If you ever want to sell it or take an order for one, I’ll be ready to purchase it. Touché!

    Absolutely gorgeous animatronic! The weathering and paint is amazing! I'm currently working on brainstorming for a Tiki Bird and a Chernabog animatronic, but this project would definitely be next on the list haha. What servo motor did you use in the head?

    • @jasperjanderson
      @jasperjanderson  3 года назад +2

      It doesn't take much to move a jaw like this. I usually use Hitec 425 servos for this type of thing. And thanks!

    What did you use for the rods? Were those custom built or bought off the shelf? I am currently 3D printing one and cant figure out the easiest way to tackle the rods as I don't have STL files for those,

    Very cool! Hoping you'll share more of your solution for the jaw movement - I see you don't recommend it but the effect certainly seems to work or be controlled better than Jawduino would do. Blue sky would love to build one of these for myself one day!

    • @jasperjanderson
      @jasperjanderson  4 года назад

      I think you're underestimating the jawduino setup. I've tried many different options over the years, and that's the one I'd recommend currently. Or you could build your own Scary Terry board. Those were great.

    • @Ryan-ob6gp
      @Ryan-ob6gp 4 года назад

      @@jasperjanderson Perhaps - I just haven't seen the Jawduino work very convincingly. The appropriate mouth open amount doesn't always correlate 1:1 with volume, as of course you are aware. It certainly looks like your solution is more manually adjusted for realism.

      @@Ryan-ob6gp All of these controllers pretty much work the same, and that's a common problem. You get the best results by manipulating your source audio track through trial and error.

    Hey Jasper, what's the secret to getting his jaw to move so quietly? My servos are so noisy that it's distracting.

    • @jasperjanderson
      @jasperjanderson  4 года назад

      Well 2 things, first is I replaced the audio in the video with the actual track, rather than making you listen to my camera's lousy microphone recording the speaker on the prop. But also some servos are louder than others. This has a Hitec 425BB, and it's not bad at all.

    Hi Jasper! Great work especially on the artistic side of things. Looks just like the real thing! I am a more mechanical person working on a Jolly Roger to try to get into world of animatronics. Could you give me some tips on painting the skull to look like tan and aged? Again really impressed!

      Thanks, I typically just start with a light color and build up darker shades in light passes.
