    I love this stuff ! I have used annie sloan and made my own with colorpace paint from Walmart and this calcium carbonate. It works exactly the same ! TIP - Mix the carbonate into the water first and mix well and then add your paint and mix again.

    thank you for the great advice... i recently got into crafting and realized how expensive chalk paint is , and would rather make it myself , as well the ratio of paint to powder for the mix... took me forever to find someone that knew what they were talking about in regards to prep/ product/ procedures !!! Thank you!!!🥰🥰🥰

      @@griffinwebb9904 BS told to sheep to sell bunch of overpriced crap..chemistry is chemistry,if anything food grade is better,more pure..so yeah...Buy the way to make my own best chalk paint I use waterproof PVA-wood glue,Chalk and senelier abstract acrylic paints.I can make gallons of paint for what 1 l of some brand costs and trust me,mine is not a hair worst...also I use clear wax to make own wax,gliding wax colours,mix them with pigments and get all chameleon,golds,bronzes or whatever pigment I can get my hands on,apart of simple black,white,dark brown,gold sold out there..so yeah.chemistry is quite simple and elements are what they are..I make and in 95% cases use only my own made watercolours,acrylics,chalk paint,soaps,body butters,makeup,hair dyes,nail gels,resins,wax,candles and God knows what else have I not done and I’m doing..trust me.chalk is chalk,nothing special about it,it’s one of most basic and simple elements...I’m watching these videos to see if someone invents,finds new recipes,tricks..but nah,nothing new in this one...buy the way,if in you’re region animal feed chalk is really bigger particles than you want you always can use coffee grinder,cheap device what can be very helpful to grind down particles+ you can add chalk directly to some pigments before adding to glue,Water-wet mixtures...well,I’m tell me all this not to shame you,but to encourage you and everybody to experiment and not be afraid to,don’t think you need 20£ a l paint and all colours to start own furniture repainting business 😉 you can get gallons of waterproof PVA glue,chalk and some professional grade pigment paints when those are on sale and mix own colours as you go on and need them,get good clear wax and mix own wax colours too and no need to buy them all,or if you don’t have at hand or it has ended always will know how to mix you’re own..once you start mixing won’t even look at brands more than for inspiration,colours you want to make...senelier 120ml acrylic paints go for 1,5£ a colour..I can say that it’s very pigmented and I make half l chalk paint f on one 😉 if want it to have very good coverage 😉 so yeah,don’t buy into BS marketing and propaganda,research,experiment and enjoy own made

    I'm a bit nervous to do my first job using homemade chalk paint. I haven't actually ever used chalk paint so doing this is being a rebel but I'm trying to also save my customer money and not having the quality look less than. I've read for hours to make the best decisions and the homemade was much higher in demand to achieve the quality look of the $35 quarts. I've subscribed for not just your knowledge but down to earth demeanor that is less the lip smacking than the last womans video I couldn't get through. Thank you for your time to help us. Much love

    Hello, I like your recipe .The calcium carbonate is the same as Blanco España? They have the same formula. My kitchen cabinets are laminated with formica. Should I do some primer before, or just clean perfectly? To protect them from fat I can use wax or varnish, what do you advise me and finally, I keep in what type of container, plastic or glass and how long should I keep them? For a gallon, what quantities will need? Tanks a lot. Greetings from México, City

      You can use 2 colors and distress back to the first color. This will make it easier to distress back to the bottom coat. Sorry for the delay in response. I now package Diva of DIY Chalk Mix. Order at letsdiytogether.com/products/chalk-mix-1lb

      Use fine grit sandpaper. In the final sanding you are just lightly knocking off imperfections on the top. When you wax the scratches should disappear. If you prefer the look without the final sanding that is fine as well. The important sanding is to prep the piece at the beginning.

    calcium carbonate should indicate to you all,- me being a vitamin reiki person dont take this form of calcium it is also in wallboard hard to digest. so if this is in paint now omg use calcium citrate to ingest for vitamins intake for calcium, instead of the carbonate as it is harder to digest and absorb. other then that, this video is great paint info and video :) crudcutter is great. and i have also used plaster of paris in the flat paint to make for chalk pain. I like a clear poly coating but over time i noticed that and clear can turn amber yellowish color so now i leave is just clear flat matte coating i also noticed with clear wax that has to be kept up every sp often poly doesnt..i like your version better mixing paint thanks for sharing easy happy video

    Hi - Is this chalk paint recipe low odor and safe to use indoors? What are your thoughts on the plaster of paris chalk paint recipe?

    • @Divaofdiy
      @Divaofdiy  8 лет назад +1

      The chalk mix adds no odor to the paint you decide to use. I have used plaster of paris before I found this mix and that is why I was so excited about it! This is creamier and you can save extra paint in a sealed container and it will not harden like plater of paris home recipes.

    hello. I used polyurethane clear satin as recommended by the sales person and I don't like the end result. It took three rustic look away and it now looks shinny. Did I purchase the wrong wax coating??

    • @Divaofdiy
      @Divaofdiy  8 лет назад

      What did you paint? If it's a highly used piece like a table top or cabinets it needs the poly protection but on a normal furniture piece you should use wax to keep the rustic look. This is the type of wax letsdiytogether.com/products/4-oz-organic-furniture-wax Unfortunately you will have to sand off the poly and repaint to get the rustic look back.

      I find the polyurethane can yellow over time... I like the polyacrylic matte finish if you want a more durable finish than wax...it has a slight sheen but not glossy...

    When I used this formula, the paint on my furniture felt very gritty. What could have caused that? What should I do now to redo the piece?

    • @Divaofdiy
      @Divaofdiy  8 лет назад +1

      You should not have to redo it, just sand it down to a smooth finish with fine sandpaper. Then wax it to protect it.

    When you say latex, do you have to ask for a specific finish such as flat or semi gloss?

      Use flat or satin finish latex paint.

    I going to do a dresser how long does it take to dry before I can sit my tv on top?

    • @Divaofdiy
      @Divaofdiy  8 лет назад

      The paint itself dries very quickly. After you wax it (or other sealer) I would give it 24 hours and you should be fine! Sorry for delay in response... if you have already finished I hope the project turned out awesome!

    Hi where can you get calcium carbonate from I would also like to know what kind of paint and what kind of latex paint to make the chalk paint

    • @Divaofdiy
      @Divaofdiy  8 лет назад +1

      I now sell my own mix! Check it out at divaofdiy.com. You can use any flat latex paint, I use samples because they are cheaper and the chalk mix will be the bonding agent so you don't have to worry about using samples.

    Hey hi, I tried this and the paint bubbled up, like how baking powder does in water and as I used it the colour completely faded. Am I to use latex paint only as I used normal paint we get in the uk? Did I put too much in I used 2 teaspoons in 40ml of acrylic paint.

    • @Divaofdiy
      @Divaofdiy  8 лет назад

      I am not familiar with paint in the UK but if you are using normal wall paint I'm sure it's the same. We use 4TBL mix and 2TBL water to 1Cup of paint. Are you using straight calcium carbonate?

    Do I need to use a special brush to apply the wax? If so, why?

    • @Divaofdiy
      @Divaofdiy  8 лет назад

      No you do not have to use a wax brush. You can use a soft cloth or cheesecloth. I like to use a wax brush because it uses less wax and it helps to burnish the wax in. Here is the one I use: letsdiytogether.com/products/wax-brush

      Poppyhimbo you made me laugh because I was thinking the same the first time somebody told me “ it needed elbow grease” and I asked her where to buy that grease. She was laughing at me because this is a idiomatic English expresion which mean you have to work hard moving your arms. English is not my mothers tongue which means is not my primary language.
