I have been going there for over 30 years. Nothing is maintained. Even though they charge seven dollars per person on every cruise and $20 on every flight to be used towards fixing up tourist areas.
Having a little fun with this 😢. On the other side of this FUN: this is not a little bit of damage - and people are indeed hurt. 1. It will take 6 months-1 year to fix this part of the dock. PLUS businesses that rely on the cruise market are at a stand still Ships used to dock almost everyday - even on Sunday . Now I haven't seen ANY outside my balcony since this diaster happened.
I was on it too. Wild experience no doubt. At least I was one of the lucky ones that stayed up too late and did not go onshore. That happens every year on Shiprocked.
I was on the Magic last week in Ocho Rios, After a week on Penney piching cruise line I wouldn't be surprised if they cut staffing on the navigational bridge to dock the ship.
Just a small correction. I actually work onboard Carnival Magic and I can confidently tell you that you were not on Magic in Ocho last week because this was a charter cruise and is Ocho Rios is not part of our normal cruise itinerary. Also FYI our bridge is fully staffed thank you.
@@DetourswithJeffCorrect. Had nothing to do with the staff. That was all Mom Nature's doings. As a result our March 10 Horizon cruise has moved our Jamaican stop from Ocho Rios to Falmouth. Ship Happens. 😂
Ship was docked and tied up for sometime before this incident occurred, this has nothing to do with the ship or the crew this has everything to do with the ports not being up to par.
Given their number of ships how often do these kinds of accidents usually happen? I expect it’s relatively common? Ultimately this sounds like a problem with the dock, not with the ship.
I really hate the internet you think it was bad weather? Bro it was bad weather I live her an we don't get waves like that it was a freak storm. Simply put ok
2,562 people on shore. My boyfriend and I were part of it and honestly the only bad part of it was that we had no communication with Carnival staff and we had no food or water. It sucked but at least they'll hopefully have a plan in place if this ever happens again.
Ocho Rios better get out there and construct an insular and protect these ships As well, the ship should have moved away from the dock. The fenders will nto take that.
I'm from Jamaica and I reside in Ocho Rios. Maybe if you guys were told about its history, you'd have much knowledge of why things occur in such a way. But for most part of Ocho Rios, it is "man made". Where the pier is built and the entire island village plaza, it is a dumped up area. That area was part of the sea itself. So what happened is that mother nature can take back its course at any time. Ocho Rios is a very flat place. Very easy flooded.
That pier looks really run down. Glad no one wss injured. Thanks for the video.
It looks like they cracked the pier it one spot. I’m sure there will be updates coming

Very nice video. Thanks for posting and have a nice day too.
Thanks. Need to do more!
We're here he said after crashing into the dock.
"Fits like a glove "
Nice share
Thank you
Wow!!! That’s a detour!!!
They had to un-dock for safety reasons. They Re- docked in another Berth after another ship left. We got back on around 8 p.m.
Glad to hear that!!! Hopefully yall had a little fun on shore!
Looks like that pier has seen better days, the concrete looks like it just crumbled.
No doubt.

Ok! Bad things happen. Welcome to detours
Was on the boat when it happened. Called an emergency and the captain had to take us back out to sea to avoid anymore damage. Not a fun day at all
Does sound like you have an interesting story to tell later. Question? Would you rather have been on land?
I was on it too. Wild experience no doubt. At least I was one of the lucky ones that stayed up too late and did not go onshore. That happens every year on Shiprocked.
Watched the whole thing from my apt balcony. It was sooo sad. Glad no one was hurt. These things happened.
@WWEENETWORK Thay must have been wild!

I think in this moment it was more mother nature than people error but I get what your saying

@markabrams9890 never would have thought it was the crew or carnivals fault! Sometimes crazy stuff happens

I don’t find that they happen often at all. I’ve been on 10 plus cruises and it haste never happen. Nothing has…. I think it was just bad weather

@mykaljam I never said it was not! Obviously this was an extreme
There was thousand on shore not a few. They waited 10 hours to get picked up.
Extra time to Party??? Wow. Did not know. There were no numbers on any of the articles I read. Just that passengers were left. Thanks for the update

@kylawanzek119 the world is full of detours!!!!! No doubt it sucked but hope y’all Made the best of it
Ohhhh Carnival 😂😂😂
Rough day for the home team

Are they called fenders? Did not know what to call them. You would think they would be more protected from waves at dock
Jamaica doesn’t do anything except take the money. The tourism enhancement fund is a joke.
