The HQ in the background was a nice touch. I couldn't help think that cutting the bottom of the stainless steel post on an angle top to match the deck angle would have been easier. Love your work though! It's being a rollercoaster ride over the 5 years :)
I was thinking the same thing! I can’t believe it’s been five years since I saw a video of a crazy guy moving a mold across Australia. And me thinking it would never happen. Since then I’ve learned a little Australian and met Ross.
Hi Ross it’s looking fantastic I’m parked up in the chair and look forward to you beavering on each week hope the weather is better than WA it’s dam cold here
dude you need to do a tool recommendation. you work with these things in your buisness. we are so unaware at what works good or great. pad your income with the people that make a wonderful item that "WORK". just a thought. everyone is doing it. peel ply has taken off becuase of your channel. dont under estimate your experience. this is why we watch to get tips so we dont get frusrtrated. cheers. i have some Australian mates. great job. power on.
Nice progress Rossco. Might want to look into building mist boxes on the inside of the engine room vents. They're essentially baffled boxes that attempt to collect water and dump it back over board. You would also build them to vent as high as possible into the engine room to restore the freeboard.
I have the vetus Dorade box that attaches to the vent for these vents whuch in effect restores the freeboard, however they will still allow air to flow for suction .I couldn't mount them on the inside of the Cockpit due to the shape of the mouldings and the stern cabins own those walls not engine room.
@@LifeOnTheHulls I had a good feeling you were on top of this, but I thought I'd throw this into the mix just in case. I really enjoy watching your videos and will be sad when you're done. Unlike you who will be celebrating. My build has been on hold while I complete a long project for my dad. Time; we spend it, but we can't earn more.
Ross, for you support of the hardtop, wouldn’t have been easier to build a plinth to create a level mounting point for the base of the support? That way you wouldn’t have needed to cut another hole in the boat. You would only need to add a block of materiel to level the area to mount the base.
I can hear the excitement in your voice Ross! Well deserved. I am not sure who is ready to see you sailing in this boat more, you or the peanut gallery!
Ross, I am so impressed with your skill and determination. Your excitement and bringing your wife into doing glass work is amazing. Cheers to you both. I can't wait for splashing as I am sure you both are.
A bit of bling on the boat! The stainless post look great. The engine room vents look great. I am a bit interested about water ingress during rough seas. As usual, thanks for sharing.
Another great video Roscoe and the attent6ion to detail is starting to show rewards in the finish of the cat. You'll be enjoying the cruising life before you know it and all the better for having taken the time to do it right the first time.
It's got to be so much fun doing the these small jobs that make the boat look fantastic, especially after all the hard back breaking work over the last 5 years. Easy for me to say but it just doesn't seem like it's been 5 years since you started building your boat. It's looking fantastic and Janet and you have done an amazing job .
Hi Roscoe and Janet with every piece being fitted and any job you do it is looking so good such a boost to you both knowing that they all make the finish line a little closer don't forget to put a few stubby holders around the decks for when you are relaxing having a sundowner or two anchored in some secluded bay cheers guys love your work
All the details and extra strength and structure you have put in to this boat is going to be amazing in the end…I can’t wait to see you and Janet sailing into the sunsets. It might seem like a lot of extra work..but the piece of mind you will have later knowing you built a bad A$$ boat will be worth it!
Looking good now all the jewellery is being added. Mount the hatches opening forward to get the breeze in on anchor👍🏼👍🏼, you won’t sail in rough weather with them open. Those extra posts will make handy grab rails when under way in the rough🌪️🌪️also somewhere to anchor the side covers when you get around to it. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🇦🇺
Very nice work Ross Those stainless parts makes a huge difference on the look of the boat, i love it 👍 Now take care mate, and have a greate weekend. All the best.
Great look !! Try to find someone in your area that does electropolishing. They could polish your stachions for a reasonable price, save you a ton o hours and I would bet a better finish. We use to polish 500 gallon tanks that looked like a mirror when done and they were just 304L Looking forward to next post
I do ss work for boats. I would just cut the 50mm ss tube on a angle and weld a oval plate to the bottom instead of making a spot that will hold dirt and water.
It really is starting to come together. So looking forward to launch day and the first cruise. Thank you for sharing your adventure with us. Love you and Jan. What a team!
Personally I think that keeping the edge nearest the inside edge will only serve as a water holding feature. Making the supports basically set into a 3 sided water capture feature. Should be ground down smooth Rossy!!! Like you did for the external stantions on the outboard edges.
Your cats looking great 😊 When I built my catamaran, I installed the aft cabin deck hatches opening up looking aft. Big mistake as you get no air flow. The bow of a cat always points into the breeze. It was a ugly job removing and turning the hatches 180° to open forward to catch the breeze like a wind scoop. All big hatches need to open to get a breeze if possible. Cheers. Sail on !
Just a thought, would you be better with a stainless plate at the bottom of those tubes, under the oval flanges, I appreciate you have grub screws and potentially a weld but just to stop the sharp edge of the tube rubbing on the GRP.
I have never noticed a dedicated engine vent like that in the side of a cat so now I will need to keep an eye out. On my sailboat I have a 23-hp diesel and it has a 3" bilge blower which is not a legal requirement and a 3" cowl vent with a hose into the bilge space. Any additional intake air comes from leakage into the bilge space from the cabin.
Hey Ross something I was thinking 🤔 about I'm sure yall are probably going to have a water 💧 maker on board but I was watching another channel have you thought about somehow running a tube from your gutters to your water tanks and if yall get a quick shower it will fill the tanks back up in no time 😊
Don't you find the base of the additional stanchion to close to the fibreglass? I believe they will be hard to keep clean... A little bit larger cut out and a vertical radius in the edges would have done better to me.
Hi Ross, greetings from Naples Florida. I found todays show very interesting, I wish this was a 2 hour episode. 😃. I know this is a crazy question but how much longer do you think it will be before the boat hits the water? I was thinking you’ve probably got at least eight or nine months to go. Is the stripper pole going to be inside the cabin or out on the deck? Hahaha 🤣🤣🤣. Cheers buddy.
with the supports for the roof why did you cut down (subtraction) and add a flat area (that is harder to clean around) rather than add a small wedge and make it in to a Plinth that way there is no where for stuff to collect and it is nor thicker thus stronger?
I'm surprised you didn't make a plywood template and hot glue it on to use a plunge router to cut the hole. If you're doing it several times it would have been easier!
Only had to do it twice and I am surprised I didnt do it either.Somtimes the job is done before I think about how to do it properly Just take a lot of care.
The inside cockpit walls are curved radius and cannot accommodate the vents. The inside of the vent has a dorade attachment that excludes water once installed.Cheers Rossco
Sorry Ross I do not like those holes in the engine area. Water will get in. Gotta be a better solution to vent that engine room without sea water getting in.
I don’t like the idea of vent holes on the side of the hull. There has to be another solution. I can see heavy seas and situations where that pours in. I bet those get closed off and glassed over
I don’t know why your wife would worry about you cutting holes in the boat, you could cut every hole with a hatchet and by the time you finished no one would be able to see the difference. You are and artist with glass.
This yacht is the business. Fair dinkum. Professor, you’re rocking this boat. Literally.
Cheers Jeremy,appreciate you watching mate.
5/3 of sfa 🤣. Only Aussies would know what that means.
The shiney bits are a real sign of progress. Keep up the great work Ross and Janet.
I had a few North Americans and Irishmen ask. They loved it.Now part of Irish folk law.SFA.
In addition to the engines we now have more bling!!!!!!! Way to go Ross!
Cheers Mate
This is a really exciting time Ross. Fitting the components is a great feeling. Enjoy it😊
See !! Quality. That one piece of stainless really brightened up the area. Almost there mate!
Roscoe, you are getting closer to payday mate 🏝😎🏄♂️.
Looking awesome Ross and Janet. Keep up the hard work, so going to be worth it. Thanks for sharing as always.
Man makes more holes in boat and fills them in again haha . Great to see it all coming together mate .
Thanks Paul.All good fun.Rossco
Scary episode mate!! All that work coming together. Brilliant.
Details that accentuate the design, function and esthetics. You have a great 👁🗨 eye.
Thank you! Cheers!
Wow, all that “Not Ross and Janet made” stuff looks so good, kind of like jewelry on a cat!
Those 50.8mm uprights are going to get a workout as handholds at sea, you made the right call getting those mounts right.
My thoughts exactly . Rossco
The HQ in the background was a nice touch. I couldn't help think that cutting the bottom of the stainless steel post on an angle top to match the deck angle would have been easier. Love your work though! It's being a rollercoaster ride over the 5 years :)

I really like things where they print the template on the box and you can recycle the box into a template of doom!
Great idea

Gidday Frank thanks for checking in buddy. We hope to launch in the next 8 months.Stay tuned.Cheers Ross
Do you think your inset stanchion bases could collect dirt and be tricky to clean?
Potentially but Janet is up for the cleaning.
🤙
are you going to decore the foam around the holes you cut out before your final fit?
Absolutely, every single cut out in the boat is cored and sealed.
with the supports for the roof why did you cut down (subtraction) and add a flat area (that is harder to clean around) rather than add a small wedge and make it in to a Plinth that way there is no where for stuff to collect and it is nor thicker thus stronger?

these big Holes in 5 meter Waves on the Outside, confusing!
SFA is that a term I'm not familiar with😊
Haha.Sweet f@#k All .Love it my favourite, 5/3 rds is just more of it and totally irrelevant.
why wouldn't you place the engine vents on the insed wall rather than outside. That would go further to prevent water ingress in bad weather.

"Used Boats" on the screen of your cell phone...What's up with that? Looking for a second boat? Love your videos
Always on the lookout for a deal.
All that stainless going on is totally schmick there Rosco. Did I get that Aussie slang right? 😁
Well done Rick.I will pass that.I would have said it's the Ducks guts.
I know you are six months behind with videos, but those stainless steel pipes could also be used for cabling etc
That is definately what we will use them for. They will carry plumbing for washing and solar wiring.
Why it took so long for them to come after ordering?
Supply chain issues worldwide problems I guess.
I don’t like the idea of vent holes on the side of the hull. There has to be another solution. I can see heavy seas and situations where that pours in.
I bet those get closed off and glassed over
How old are these videos?.
End of feb this year.
@@LifeOnTheHulls Thanks for your reply.
Just been told by the wife we been married for 5 years to !! So there no way ill for get each year lol
Good lad.Never let a good woman down I was always taught.
I don’t know why your wife would worry about you cutting holes in the boat, you could cut every hole with a hatchet and by the time you finished no one would be able to see the difference. You are and artist with glass.
Good onya Kev.
Bit too short for dancing polls 😂
Too funny Garry
started watching and a lot of the audio was very low, clicked off about 4 minutes in ...
Sorry mate,i normalised the audio not sure what went on there.
Looking great ROSCO
Just look at the insurrection? Now there’s a joke.
Too funny
Ross stop cutting holes in the boat,It’s getting depressing 😢
I love it, plenty of work to be done.
@@LifeOnTheHulls,what a great team you and Janet make, I hope you’re daughter and her partner are enjoying their time in NZ 👍
How much have you spent on this build in total? Awesome craftsmanship btw. You probably have another year building the boat!
