PLEASE DO MORE OF THESE! You guys brought back so many memories just with your commentary, Wait Til Your Father Gets Home, those ads for Saturday morning cartoons in comics, so much.
Let's not forget Rick Springfield was Apollo's kid brother from Battlestar Galactica he died in the premiere movie but still worth remembering 👍 (lieutenant Zac)
I lived for these as a kid. I built a party for my daughter and her friends when they were in grade school around the idea of these specials. We called them our “Super Saturday Morning” usually around Halloween.
Rick Springfield also starred on General Hospital in the early eighties. But he started acting in the seventies guest starring on shows like the original BattleStar Galactica and the Incredible Hulk .
I only properly discovered 'Battle of the Network Stars' a year or so ago - but I'm glad that I did! Really is an incredible piece of TV history which could never be repeated!
In the UK we had a show called The singing ringing tree it was dubbed from Europe I will be amazed if you can find anything about this show I do have the DVD box set This show will give you nightmares
I REMEBER THIS!!! This was the preview of the Superfriends. I am planning a Superfriends marathon on the first Saturday of September next year for the 50th anniversary.
Kids Super Power Hour with Shazam!,I was prob 5 yrs old and was in love the blond chick on keyboards. And the cheesy Super Friends Live action special. And American Bandstand where I first fell in love with Debbie Harry for the first time.lol
This was fun. I do hope you'll do more of these. As for other things, I'd get a kick out of maybe some obscure TV holiday specials. Or perhaps some commentary on a batch of old toy commercials.
God, I remember watching this the night it aired. I was in second grade and over at my older cousins' place being babysat by my aunt because Mom and Dad went out for a night on the town. Man, I'm old. That season, which was actually the 1973-74 season, I was mostly an ABC kid on Saturday morning, switching over to NBC for "Star Trek."
I remember when this first aired. Rick Springfield is still out there touring and tearing it up, and just released a new album a few weeks ago. And yes, Rick was also with the Foo Fighters in the documentary for Sound City. And p.s. YES, John Stamos was on General Hospital at the same time Rick springfield was. Rick played Dr. Noah Drake, and John played a kid from the docs, Blackie Parish. Noah Drake started on General Hospital in March of 1981. and he really caught fire that summer. Jessie's Girl hit #1 August of 1981. Yes, Rick released Beginnings, Comic Book Heroes and Wait For Night before he got the GH gig, all great albums.
General Hospital was later. Like 5 years or so. He was the "Teen Heart throb " of the time, because David Cassidy was snapping at his heels. Those two, Burns and Schreiber were variety show staples at the time, and did guest shots on pretty much every ABC series that was running at the time. This was back in the day when SCTV was starting, and Second City/ Saturday Night Live was in it's infancy. They got sideswiped by the rest of the Second City crew. They were like older, as John Belushi, Aykroyd, and the gang were all first starting out. Damn, The early 70's....
Great Friday night Preview memories of Saturday morning cartoons ! I think you guys would like The Paul Lynde Halloween special 1976. It had Wicked witch of the west, Witchie Poo , Kiss band etc...
YES! And he had a kid brother on the show played by David Mendenhall, who also did the voice of Daniel Witwicky in Transformers: The Movie, and season 3 of the cartoon, and played Sylvester Stallone's son in Over The Top!
Eeing the Rom action figure on your page made me remember how Milton Bradley missed out on the Space Knight characters that Marvel Created . Also there should have been more articulation .As for the cartoons ? I loved to draw and thought as a kid that I would have loved being a cartoon artist . So I loved cartoons . I now kmow that animation is a tedious job , lol . Not for the short attention span I have .
Brian,on youtube here theirs abc sunshine saturday morning preview 1974 with commercials, hosted by lee majors as the six million dollar man.you should a video for that.
Are you certain this was a 1972 broadcast? It carries a copyright date of 1973 right at the start, and the offerings being debuted (invisible Goober form his Ghost-Chasers cartoon) were from 1973. I hope to stumble across ABC's 1972 Saturday morning preview featuring coming attractions for the Saturday Superstar Movie anthology.
This was a one time special meant to promote the new block of Saturday morning shows on ABC. I was one year old when it aired, so I never caught it until RUclips.
I DO remember the Flimation Lassie cartoon. Lassie's Rescue Rangers. It wasn't great or anything, but I remember it. I also remember Yogi's Ark. The pilot was broken into several episodes when I watched it in syndication, with the characters repeatedly breaking into song about how "We're on our way to a perfect place! A perfect place! A perfect place!" They would find some remote location that they'd think was ideal and start building homes, only to have bulldozers and equipment show up and wreck it. After several trys, they give up, but have the revelation that if they can't FIND a.perfect place, they'll go around, clean up the world and make IT the perfect place. The interesting thing about it was that this was a huge crossover between all of Hannah Barbara's many animal characters. That was almost unheard of, and people obviously enjoyed it because Hannah Barbara did it again a few years later with Scooby Doo's Laugh-Olympics, with all of their original heroes and villains dividing into teams to compete against each other in a cartoon Battle of the Network Stars. Making all of their cartoons kind of a animated cinematic universe. Superfriends went thru numerous incarnations, but it was always on the the air for more then a decade. Even when they weren't making new episodes, they show continued in reruns. At least as I recall. I really got tired of Wendy and Marvin, but the show got better with the introduction of the Wonder Twins, and really good (to my pre-teen self at least) when the Legion Of Doom joined.the show. Actual super villains for the Superfriends to fight. WOW! Anyway, really good video!
Used to love those preview shows! That clip from Super Friends is probably the first I ever saw that show. Wonder Woman getting washed away by the flood waters has been burned into my psyche since I was 8. Yogi's ark wasn't a great show, except it was cool to see all those characters hanging out together. You guys should do an episode of the Laff-a-lympics
Batman does not sound like Adam West. It was around 4 years after Batman 66 ended. This does mark the first time that a version of Batman 66 meets Superman. For some reason Chuck Woolery doesn't get enough recognition for play a live action version of Superman. Stilll would love to find that back half of this show,
The character was portrayed as a lunatic who often wore an army helmet and dabbled in conspiracies. This isn't me giving any commentary but describing the cartoon character, settle down.
I pity you that you appear to be unable to stop viewing everything through a political lens. There was no context given to why a right wing nut is less funny today than in the 70s. How does he define a right wing nut? Are you sensitive because you are called that?
PLEASE DO MORE OF THESE! You guys brought back so many memories just with your commentary, Wait Til Your Father Gets Home, those ads for Saturday morning cartoons in comics, so much.
We definitely will, appreciate the feedback!

how did we forget that?

Looks like the acid from Rick’s tab tasted colours and turned into Warholesk Art…
Yeah Rick Springfield and star wars. My mom had Jessie's girl and watched general hospital
John Stamos was on a soap opera General Hospital in the early eighties.
"All the animals you know that wear ties."
Jason, FTW. 🤣
Love this! Brings back great memories! 😎👍
So glad!
Top Shelf! Well Done!
thanks man!
Rick Springfield also starred on General Hospital in the early eighties. But he started acting in the seventies guest starring on shows like the original BattleStar Galactica and the Incredible Hulk .
Rick Springfield appeared as Lt. Zac in the series premiere of Battlestar Galactica. Zac was killed off early in the premiere episode.
I only properly discovered 'Battle of the Network Stars' a year or so ago - but I'm glad that I did! Really is an incredible piece of TV history which could never be repeated!
this is true.
I could've watched another two hours of this excellent job gentlemen👌🏻
Thanks so much!
This is awesome 👌 👏 👍 please do more!!!!!!!!
You got it!
Very cool! Loved this.
Thank you! Cheers!
Getting the TV Guide with the list of new Saturday Morning shows (among others) was a highlight of fall and yes, made going back to school palatable.
100 percent agree.
Great fun, guys! Pretty sure that is Kurtwood Smith as Batman. Trying to remember where that was verified.
Please let me know on that.
I watched the original video, and just from the voice, Batman sounds a LOT like Kurtwood Smith.
That's a theory I've heard before.
Batman threatening to put his foot in someone's ass would be epic.
In the UK we had a show called
The singing ringing tree it was dubbed from Europe
I will be amazed if you can find anything about this show
I do have the DVD box set
This show will give you nightmares

Olivia Newton-John was close friends with Rick Springfield.

I was in love with Dirty Trixie from that show. I always liked the villians.
I remember Rick Springfield on the cover of “Dynamite” magazine.
I remember those shows. I remember watching new. Heck I remember that sneak peak show.
Watcher Mason here, I love this new format, I can see what in insanity’s name your talking about! Yes Battle for the Planet of the Network Apes.
Amazing!!! I have to learn more about this: "Mission Magic". I had no idea.
Alotta fun sipping joe and catching this, thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
What a great idea! So much fun to watch do more! Do commentary for UFO! more commentary please. or a 1970's Variety show. 😆
More to come!
The kid was Avery Schrieber's real life kid.
Oh he's also the guy who posted the video.
This was fun. I do hope you'll do more of these. As for other things, I'd get a kick out of maybe some obscure TV holiday specials. Or perhaps some commentary on a batch of old toy commercials.

Damn, The early 70's....
Those live action super heroes specials from the 70s. Would be perfect for you guys.
what was it with loud plaid jackets in the 1970s?
I'd love to hear you guys' commentary over clips of Legends of the Superheroes and the 1978 sci-fi film awards show.
Oh yeah, great idea.
Lassie's Rescue Rangers?
This was fun, I had no idea it existed.
Great Friday night Preview memories of Saturday morning cartoons ! I think you guys would like The Paul Lynde Halloween special 1976. It had Wicked witch of the west, Witchie Poo , Kiss band etc...
Captain Manzini!!!
Great stuff! Bring on Battle of the Network Stars
working on it.
I remember him, and Doritos. A little later but bout 1977? Maybe later. But yeah ,I remember this guy doritos.lol he was 🤣
I watched General Hospital at my babysitter’s house in the early eighties and John Stamos played a character named Blackie.
YES! And he had a kid brother on the show played by David Mendenhall, who also did the voice of Daniel Witwicky in Transformers: The Movie, and season 3 of the cartoon, and played Sylvester Stallone's son in Over The Top!

Yes! It has him do a dual role as both Lee Majors, AND Steve Austin.

Okay, future episode about the Aged Galen intros to the edited together Planet of the Apes TV movies is a must. Get on it! 😁
Yessir!
@@BrickMantooth I second this comment sirs!
We never had this show in the UK, I think I have missed out , is this the alternative to the banana splits

Yogis gang, was a half an.hour.they would touch on subject of mr greed, and moral type subjects.
I don't know if I'd want a morality lesson from a bear whose whole thing is stealing from people. Just sayin'
"Do as I say, not as I do, Boo-Boo."
Yogi's Gang was made to please parental monitoring groups who wanted Sat. Morning shows to be educational and less violent, same with Super Friends.
Now Brian! Now!
Angel Dust
Now I will get to find out if Mr. BJ McKay was really just a cream puff candy butt WIMParrella or really an athletic tough guy…Stuff I need to know
like thr ROM
"Right-wing nut neighbor"? That was disappointing to hear from you. I would have enjoyed this video so much more without your political commentary.
The character was portrayed as a lunatic who often wore an army helmet and dabbled in conspiracies. This isn't me giving any commentary but describing the cartoon character, settle down.
You said "way more funny than it is now". That didn't sound like you were just describing an old tv show.
@@kirkkunkle3457 if you are somehow taking that personally, that's not my problem. This is much ado about nothing.

Been listening to Brian for over a decade, never heard him get political. That is one reason why I keep watching.
