*Wipes tears from her eyes and catches her breath from laughing* I nearly pissed myself when Mo'Nique's vile rant (something I've always felt guilty for laughing hysterically at) from "Precious" appeared to have come out of Lypsinka's mouth!
See this is why I love this channel, I'm from the UK and had never heard of this legendary 'Genius' named 'Lypsinka'. Now I feel honoured to put Google to work so I can learn as much as possible! Thank you Mike Diamond, love from the UK!
I saw John Epperson as Lypsinka in The Boxed Set over the Christmas holidays, and it was fantastic. I first saw Lypsinka in Vancouver in the 80s. He was being presented at a gay dance club, and while it wasn't the right venue, he was fantastic. I was only in NYC for a few days this trip, and wasn't able to see his Joan Crawford piece, which I sulked about for days! This is drag as high art, and the film and TV references speak to anyone obsessed with the history of Hollywood and it's female icons. The world has changed, and it's not so difficult to come out of the closet, but there was a time when it was. This work is a brilliant reminder of the days when gay men would look to female Hollywood icons as funnels to channel their experience and emotions. It evolves from the history of camp. And, when someone as talented as Jon Epperson works this genre, it is funny, sad, intellectual and hugely entertaining. It's true art. Long live Lypsinka!
