i was there that night also .. good grief lol .. that was a great night lol .. was that not one of the best live performances ever ??? i remember standing in the crowd watching as this most consummate of performances stunned and elated me .. flawless and historical .. true gold .. seeing this video now for the first time .. and it was just as i remembered it .. thanks for posting it .. i'm in the background stage left which makes it a rare moment to see myself back in the day .. cheers lol
Lypsinka is a fucking genius -and especially in the sound editing -all those great clips from a thousand different sources. Hats off! He and Lynne Carter are the finest acts I've seen.
A spectacular piece of perforando art. As someone else already said, Lypsinka truly has no peer. She elevates the gente in a way that is breathtaking to watch. I particularly love the sheer expressiveness of her gorgeous arms. They are her most dramatic supporting cast.
Amazing Queen...Beautiful, talented and funny... a fabulous combination. Pure camp.. Pure excellence. WOW.. NOW THIS is drag.. the way drag should be done. From now on I will be comparing every queen to her... Thank you Rodger... subscribed
Indescribably Spectacular! Lypsinka is, Truly, MORE Rare than "One of a Kind"; a Performer...and, Artiste...Non-Pareille!!! (...Barbara, PLEEEASE...?!)
……. John Epperson had me in stitches one year at a Wigstock he performed at … I saw Charles Busch before he had left the West Village & arrived on B'way … Ever hear of Dickie Beau? … Another amazingly talented caricaturist … Happy searching … Thanks for uploading this gem, oldschooljunkie ~ (•8-D
It's fascinating to hear the original audio track after having watched it countless times in "Wigstock: the Movie." How those filmmakers managed to write and record alternative audio that would avoid a copyright issue will never receive the credit it deserves.
@EvelynThomasElite Thank You, yes I did some research and found out about "Butterfield 8," as well as X,Y, and Zee. I've watched "Butterfield" since, and will watch the others, too. Again, Thanks so much!
We'll have the memory of John with us forever. 1993 (fantastic time to be 20 in NYC)... BoyBar (my god, what can i say)... Lypsinka (my first time seeing her perform)... I'm so sad John's gone but he made so many of us happy at a time when we needed it. He handed it out like candy. Rest in Peace
Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but you wrote this sometime in April or May 2023 and John appeared at a LGBTQ Policy Center event on June 15, 2023. His most recent tweet was June 25, 2023.
Men like John Epperson and Charles Busch lifted drag from merely Saturday night camp at the local gay bar into intelligent comedic performance art. I think of the pretty, effeminate boys I've seen in hooker shoes and MAC make-up, lyp syncing poorly to whatever pop vixen of that moment and I yearn for a Lypsinka. People will mention Lady Bunny, but I'm not a huge fan of conventional stand-up comedy. For me, Lypsinka, Varla Jean Merman, Charles Busch and the like, are consumate performers.
Absolutely briliant! Combination Joan Crawford and Elizabeth Taylor. The best and worst of both. Phone rings and she morphs. A complicated mixture of both people. The facial expressions belie the truth. A Legendary star. Thunderous applause. Fade out. End scene. Curtain…
I am desperate to identify the audio clip pertaining to "Mrs. Whitney Ames and her debutante daughters Susan and Lydia"...anybody know what this is from???
Does anyone know where she's getting her material from when the script gets tawdry? I know some of it is from "Carrie," but in particular when she says, "! loved it! Every awful moment of it I loved!"
In the pre-computer days, audio editing was done manually by either a quick hand at the controls when creating a master tape, or by physically cutting and splicing tapes. Imagine how much more work and inspiration it took.
Someone needs to go through and list everything she sampled in this performance! I obviously know the Mommie Dearest parts and the small bit from Chinatown, and I know the song is But Alive from Applause. But I have been trying to figure out everything else with my googling yielding little to no results! I feel like such an uncultured gay for recognizing almost none of it! If anyone can give me origins for ANY of the other sound clips, that would be awesome!
"Get out of here you little tramp!" (Joan Crawford in "I Saw What You Did") "...and I liked it!" (Piper Laurie in "Carrie") Bette Davis in the musical play "Two's Company" Lauren Bacall in the musical "Applause"
@@TheBearAspirin I think, actually, the version of But Alive is Dusty Springfield's (with some original lyrics). It happens to be on RUclips--check it out!
I was lucky enough to have seen her live back in late 1990's as well. I've look all over for her on the INTERNET and like an idiot I was separating her first name into two. I've never been good at math or spelling. Anyway, I've founly finded her. What luck.
I was in the hospital for a month and one the nurses said she didn't understand drag performance and I showed it to her and she's like, "Oh so it's like art."
Katya brought me here. This is mind-blowing 🎉
Katya recommendations never disappoint!
The artistry! The choice of material (& what it says); the mercurial moods; the sheer technique; the commentary. No one like Lypsinka.
So we’ll put. And so true. The best of the best in that vein.
Absolute camp deliciousness and this is how you serve it. Love Lypsinka XXXXXX

Lipsynka is a goddess.... If only more drag could be like this now.
First time seeing this because of Katya..wow! This material has to be under your skin to be able to switch between cuts like this 👏🏼❤️ a pro
Wonderful! She's the cream of the crop, the queen of the fop, the cream in Louie B. Meyer's sock. God love it, goddammit.
how did one transfer audio clips from film to mix
and all of that such thing in these times?
genius. i *always* find myself smiling no matter what mood i am in when i watch her.... a true original.

OMG, this is genius.
Wow. That was some next level shit right there. Brilliant, well-thought out, and exciting.
The phone bit is hysterical.
Lypsinka really is genius! Especially the three debauched turns at the end. Marvellous fun!
An amazing performance.
Brilliant!! LOVE IT!!❤️😂
Amazing! The greatest ❤
Genius! I wonder where the sound clip of 'She's my sister AND my daughter!' comes from?

@fuzzycublb they dared to take drag to a level of comprehensive creativity, and pushed it into an art form. just brilliant!
This is amazing

It’s a fifties movie, cannot think of the name. It might have been a Delores Grey picture.
It's from "Two's Company", her attempt at a Bway musical, 1952
Does anyone know where she's getting her material from when the script gets tawdry? I know some of it is from "Carrie," but in particular when she says, "! loved it! Every awful moment of it I loved!"
“Every awful moment …” is from Butterfield 8, Elizabeth Taylor. The “his new associate the talented Rae” is Susan Hayward Back Street.
@@unioncityman63 Thank you!
Lypsinka gives great Dolores Gray.
Its Liz Taylor from Butterfield 8
how did they edit tracks in 1993.. my baby mind doesn't know

Bette Davis in the musical play "Two's Company"

@jpnbronx323 missed your comment before I posted--thanks!
Anybody know where the soundbyte "Hello Dearies and a big hi-de-ho" comes from? Pretty sure it's Bette Davis, but not sure what the source is...?
Hollywood Canteen
What's the suspense music in the background, during the "confession monologue" part?
Sounds like Hitchcock.
Thanks 🎉Katya 😂
@ToddK1969 BACKSTREET with Susan Hayward.
Omnisexual, and very, very brave.
Im not into drag queens but she had something special
Morrissey's favorite!
Tough crowd.
But yet Rupaul is the mother of drag........ok 🤣
