That first girl who dies really worked THE HELL out of that part because she's 'only' the opening kill but she got to be ALL OVER the marketing for the film in the trailer and poster(s) so everyone saw her GO! TO! WORK! even if they were too scared to actually see the film. Very unironic "I'm a star!" energy. 😂
She's actually the actress who played the lead role in the short film that this movie is based off of, so it's doubly cool to see her get the opening part.
She's such an amazing actress! She was so good in Tomorrow, When The War Began.

The director said he wanted us to feel like we were having an anxiety/panic attack with the character with the way he filmed it and utilized jump scared throughout

That nurse saying "I'm single" made me choke on my root beer and cough so hard in the theater 😅😅😅😅
3:30 fun fact: apparently there was a time when mental health facilities painted their walls that shade of pink, because it was believed to have a calming effect.
The sound design in this movie was PERFECT and the jumpscares actually served a purpose most of the time. Instead of just making us jump, they also were used to put us in the main character's shoes. The disorientation and fear was palpable throughout this film. Altogether I think this movie was largely about trauma, and how we tend to bury it and pretend we're fine, to our own detriment. And that if you keep doing that, eventually you will cross a point of no return, and it will be too late. It's not enough to admit you need help, you also need to reach out and accept help, and sadly when she was finally ready to take that first step, it was too late.
I think the sound design, soundtrack and cinematography is great, but the script is kinda mediocre. Clearly the people who made the movie are good at what they do, but when the source material is only so-so, there's only so much you can do.

The scariest fact of this movie is that that monster with the faces at the end was 100% real. And the mouth bring pulled open was a dummy replica of her with an elastic jaw

They’re already filming #2 and it starts right where this left off , Joel is the main character of #2 . Same cast director etc . 👍👍

Smile and Sinister are the only movies I’ll give a pass on the jumpscares purely because of how creative they were/appropriate to the tone w/o compromising it’s story

This movie looked really cheesy and bad from the trailers, but it turned out waaay scarier then I thought it would be. The music score in it is amazing, and really helps with that.
Yes, I felt the same way. I went in with low expectations because I hate jumpscares and CG creepy faces, but I feel like this movie used them really well. Not always perfect, but leagues better than most other horror films that follow the same formula.

Pink is meant to calm. I first heard about a football coach from my old university using it for the opposing team’s locker room. I noticed it in the movie Glass as well when the doctor was having a session with all three of the “superheroes.”

The movie exceeded in making everyone watching the movie very uncomfortable and unnerving as possible. Saw this in theaters and it did not disappoint!
the sad thing about this movie, it really goes to show that the people that was supposed to be there and support her, wasnt. She needed them and they failed her.

I wasn’t expecting this to be a good movie & was happily surprised at how good it was. It’s so creepy & some scenes gave me goosebumps.

I was excited for this movie bc the trailer scared me and I love Kyle Gallner, but I did not expect this movie to make me need a therapy session! I didn’t expect the movie to basically tell me, “hey! You need to deal with your trauma now!”
Yes color psychology is a real thing, certain colors trigger the fusiform gyrus of the brain. Along with certain shades of colors can have different meanings and affects on behavior as well!!
I loved this movie especially when I found out a lot of the effects were practical!!!
The final scene with the ‘monster’ was actually done somewhat practically. There was a dude in the costume, and some marionette parts that two dudes helped move, and the ‘Rose’ was a dummy.

When we saw this opening weekend (full theater), his face peel scene made everyone gasp and scream! I had to cover my eyes a few times. I am so excited for part 2!

listen. i didn’t watch any trailer for the movie, my therapist recommended it, and she recommended the right movie! i said i wanted something new that’d scare me, and I sure as hell was scared! i normally don’t do the jumpscare bananza kind of movies (which is why i’ve only seen the first conjuring and started the second) but i think this was a good movie (even though i was annoyed with some character choices throughout the movie)

I liked the movie but one thing I really wish there was more of is seeing people standing, sitting, and smiling at her. Like as she walks on the road she sees someone driving staring at her or across the street, or in a building.
So many awesome ways they can utilize that. & honestly that was the creepiest part of the movie for me and I'd love more!!

Have one recommendation in movie for you: Jacob's Ladder (1990), this movie is underrated, but and excellent.

On "color psychology", I don't remember the details, but there was a prison (I want to say a war prison in south America?) where the guys in charge made the prisoners wear pink to humiliate them, but it actually reduced fighting and improved the overall mood.
