That one about the fire extinguisher and smoke alarm is key. Even if your machine has thermal runaway protection, that can fail. Do eet!

All great points and excellent advice for anyone getting into 3d printing. I ran face-first into many of these when I bought my first printer. You should re-post it every November, just before everyone goes out and buys new printers for Christmas.

I got an Aquila after a video from 3d Print SOS, did not realize what I was getting into. For the first 2 months I broke everything, destroyed my hotend, had to replace the extruder. I hated it. Then my wife promised a small child a pirate chest. I forced myself to learn, and honestly have loved it ever since. I didn't have the technical aptitude, but I sure as hell do now.

As a noob. If you bought a Bambu Labs printer, do not go to any Bambu Labs dedicated group. The old 3d printers are pissed off and toxic. They gate keep and hate that you didn't start on an Ender 1.
If you have a question no matter what you will be attacked. If you have an issue with the printer be ready for guys to tell you that they have decades of experience and 25+ machines, so you are just dumb and need to leave 3d printing....
The beginning groups are good etc, anything generic is good (always be on the look out for the pissed off experienced 3d printer with a Bambu Labs x1CC, especially a kick starter, they hate you and everyone else too)
With that out in the open. I got the X1CC and wow, it's awesome!!! I love it and can't recommend it enough. Especially if you want it to just work.

Gatekeeping is a real issue. You are 100% correct that the levels of help vary wildly.
I generally make sure there is a mute/block function on the most aggressive people and my time on those forums are made much easier.

Thank you for sharing this. I am sorry that this garbage exists in the groups. Sometimes you can't fix stupid. It's a shame that these people don't take all their experience and use if for the good of the hobby! What matters is that more and more people are joining the community and buying printers, not which printers they get or how they get into the hobby! I will discuss this with the Bambu Lab team.

I am sorry that you are seeing this too. It's a great idea to mute/block the dummies. But we shouldn't have to. Thanks for watching!

@@TheEdgeofTech Thanks. It’s not everyone, but it’s enough. I notice it more with the X1CC owners vs anywhere/ anyone else. Maybe due to the higher price point? I know in the past everyone started out on the cheap and only after years of experience did they step into tne prosumer market; maybe these people expect us all to start out building a printer from parts bought at the hardware store. The fact that as someone with basically zero experience, I owned an Ender 5 S1 for like 3 weeks before sending it back, can be printing in about 30 min of opening the box is amazing. I love my printer and am so happy that it just works. Yeah, there are issues and yes you have to deal with them. For the most part everyone has been super helpful. Unfortunately, the dedicated BL groups are not a place to ask questions or get help. When I have a question or problem with my X1, I turn to RUclips. Your channel has been the most helpful. I really enjoyed your set up video. It had me printing out of the box with zero issues and answered all my questions before I even knew I was going to ask them lol. Thanks to you and all of the RUclips creators, it’s been a fantastic help.
A perfect example of the "I’ve got 12 years and 20+ machines under my belt" guy, was the other day on FB (official group)
Someone posted about their printer having adhesion issues with spaghetti problems.
Right off the bat a ver experienced guy stated and advised that the issue was with the three screws for the bed and that the printer wasn’t getting up to temp. He recommended the person buy a heat laser and figure out the temps relative to the setting, but first and foremost, they recommended a complete take down of the printer and a full rebuild with a trip to the hardware store to replace the three screws.
I asked if they had used pla and what bed had they installed. The benchy is sliced for PLA not carbon fiber. Right away I was attacked as to stupid to know what I’m talking about, how these people had decades of combined experience etc… blah blah blah. It was even suggested that I not contribute or be active in the community until I got 10+ years experience "….. until you have 10 years minimum in 3d printing, stay out of the community….."
Guess what? Wrong filament and bed. The guy with less than 24 hours on the printer was right. I’m not rooting my own horn, just pointing out that 3d printing has changed. Maybe 8 mo ago, a printer rebuild and motherboard change out with new printing OS was the so.union… but not with BL. I didn’t want to build 3d printers, I wanted to print and make stuff. This printer lets me sue that. Maybe some people like building printers and tweaking settings for days/weeks/months and occasionally print a small file… not me, I’ve got stuff to print and that’s what I want to do… print.

There's so many times over the years where I've just not managed to get something to work - and I'd end up rage-quitting, turning the printer off and going to bed.... Trying it again the next day and it all works perfectly. Such is life with cheap and basic machines :)

I bought my Ender 3 V2 over the Anycubic Kobra, based off the community support and my whole intention was to tinker. I will say I wish I had done it the other way around at times. Sometimes some gee-whiz mods go wrong on the Ender. And sometimes the easiest fix is another printed part, but you can’t do that if you only have one printer.
Now I’d recommend getting something that just works out of the box. And if you get to the point where you want to start modding or building an open source machine like a RatRig or Voron, you be in a better starting point to do so.

Good information and tips. If you do learn from your mistakes, I should have a Doctorate by now. I also suggest that someone think about getting a second printer - you will need it to print parts for the first one when it breaks.

Ok loved your video. But i got some quetions i need hellp with, please.
    1. can any printer can you put the bin on a sd card and it upload automatically, if not which ones can and/or if year the board was made.
    2. how can i make a belt printer but be like a normal printer? like only mod the the built plate.
3.if a motherboard doesnt have wifi is there a way to make it wifi or do i need to get another board? what low cost boards can i use?
    4. can 3d waste ie spools, failed prints, supports and ect. be recyced, either in home or by normal bins in a neighborhood.
5.Is it better to have an enclosure? how much does external temps matter on various materials.
Thanks for your assistance my friend.

      3. If you're savvy there's a way. I am not savvy so I throw money at my problems.
      4. Yes, this requires substantial effort, and expense, but can be done at home. Neighborhood bins? Maybe. We don't live where u do, so research.
      5. Yes, enclosure is a massive upgrade over none. Temp variations are something printers hate. Less problems with an enclosure.

hello, ender 3 user here. few days ago all the 3 fans(motherboard, hot end and part cooling) stopped working. so i opened up the board to check the voltage. the fan ports are not showing the right values. could this be an issue with the firmware or should i inspect my powersupply or should i just unplug everything and change fan wires? coz i checked the fans separately all of them work. help!

Buy too cheap or too small and you buy twice very fast or spend tons of money in upgrading a printer which makes it just as expensive but still inferior to the decent printer you should have bought in the first place. There’s no good reasen to still buy a barebone machine from 2017 these days. You can learn just as much by fixing a decent machine, which you will anyway. If you can’t afford 300 $ for a Sovol SV06 or something similar, it’s always better to wait and save money these days, and unnecessary frustration. A bad machine can spoil the fun forever.

    • @TheEdgeofTech
      @TheEdgeofTech  Год назад

I agree! I would save and start with a Sovol Sv06 right now for sure! A lot of great points here, thanks for watching!
