Just a small correction. At 2:50, he demonstrates removing the plastic cover over the light on the bottom passenger door, and indicates that you should pry from the edge closest to the end of the door. While true for the passenger door, it's the reverse for the driver's door light cover - pry the edge farthest from the edge of the door. This is because the door light assemblies are identical, not mirror images.
Good job. I bought a Prius in 2013 and 3 months later I replaced all the incandescent bulbs with LEDs. I had no instruction and it was a bit harder, but I did it without much problem. My LEDs are mostly on flat panels consisting of little lighted bumps say about 1-1/4" square and with wires leading to the plug in mechanism. It would have been a bit easier if this video had been made at that time. Good job.
A bit off topic, but I’d like to see a video showing how to wire a power socket into those front map lights. It would be great to power my dash cam ( mounted top center of the windshield ) w/o a long wire run. 😊
Idk if you'll see this. But Im disabled with ptsd and I could understand this. Saved. Thumbs up. Might have to call ya to get some lights. Are these cooler? Do they last longer? Softer on your eyes? Burn less juice? Awesome video. I found this looking for "Ground effects 3rd. Gen Prius"
We appreciate the kind words! Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns. Yes, the LEDs are indeed much brighter than halogens, last longer, and require less power from your battery.
Awesome video +PrecisionLED . Can't wait to reference this when all my LEDs come in! Do you have an instructional video on replacing the turn signals with amber LEDs?
Do you have a video on how to install LED lights for a 2015 prius 3 with solar roof? I just recently purchased LED lights from you but I can't install them because they are not the same as what you have in this instructional video. Thank you very much.
Thank you for purchasing with PrecisionLED. Unfortunately, we do not have a video for the 2015 Prius with Solar Roof just yet. However, we will keep an eye out for one out here in Los Angeles for an installation video. Also, the installation process should be very similar to that of the video.
On our 2015 Prius Four the door lights are different: the lamp holder and cover are gray plastic, not clear, and there is a clip at the connector end that you release to allow that whole assembly to slide backwards. Then you can remove the cover and replace the bulb. then replace the cover and slide the whole thing back in. And the trunk light has a single-ended bulb.
Thank you for your interest. We will keep an eye our for a 2nd gen Prius out here in Los Angeles for a video. However, the installation process should be very similar to as shown in this video. The lights are very easy to access with the trim tool kit, which comes complimentary with all interior light kit purchases.
The lense on the driver's side door pops out the side closest to the front of the car, reverse for the passenger side. I just left it plugged in rather than sliding the new bulb all the way in before testing...makes it easier and quicker.
‼️‼️ i was replacing my lights today and everything was going great until i got to my drivers side door and now none of my interior lights will turn on. i may have been too rough with the wiring is all i can think of, does anyone know how i can fix this? ‼️‼️
The instructions are wrong for removing the light from the drivers side door. Unfortunately you have to read the reviews (John Gee thank you very much for the correct way to remove the light) to find the correct way to remove the bulb. Fortunately most RUclipsrs alert people of errors in their videos without having to read all the reviews.
Great video...but this isn’t a 2009. The 3rd generation you were referring to are the 2010-2015 model years. The 2009 is the last year of the 2nd Gen. Prius.
You can find the proper fitment for the parking light here: www.precisionled.com/shop-by-led/automotive-leds/t10-194-led-bulb.html Please note, you would have to adjust the quantity to 2.
Do you have the video how to install, mount LED headlight for 201x Prius (I have 2015 Prius plug-in)? Which headlight socket is for 2015 Prius plugin? (installation/how to mount the LED power controller as well)
I have the 2012 prius. I love the car. But I really don’t like the oldschool green dashboard lights. Cars didn’t had old green dashboard lights anymore for a long time in 2012. The prius is like a futuristic car but in some parts they aren’t so futuristic at all
Very useful video. Question for you, i ordered wrong bulbs for dome light and realized they are festoon bulbs I need. Do they have to be 30 MM exactly? On Amazon it shows only 30 MM as ones that will fit my 2012 Prius plug in. Thanks a lot!
Should there be a problem with these lights cause heat in the wires that fire bursts in the vehicle? Because in my country a guy who owns similar car installed this kind of led lights and car was burnt. Any comment?
Yes, he bought crappy leds. When you buy leds test them with a 14v(or of the voltage your car is when the engine is running(ready state)) power supply for at least an hour(likely an overkill, but better safe than sorry) and make sure the hot spot of the led bulb doesn't go above 80C (specially for the ones you're going to be using in the interior). I have all the lights of my gen 2 replaced for cheap leds from ali and they all work fine without any sign of burning. Granted i did receive a pair or two that burned in the first hour of use. Also leds don't cause heat in the wires, they heat themselves up. I reduced the power requirement of my car by 20-30W by changing the 6 exterior lights using t10 filament bulbs for led bulbs. In the end it's worth it but as with everything you have to do your homework.
When a bulb is difficult to remove, the easiest method would be to use some tape to wrap around the stuck bulb, and pull to remove. You can find a video tutorial of this method here: www.realsimple.com/home-organizing/home-improvement/remove-stuck-light-bulb
You should be able to access your map lights exactly as shown in the video. Are you removing the lens with our trim tools? With our tool kit, the bulbs are typically very simple to access.
Thank you for your interest. You would have to check with your local laws and regulations. However, we have never heard of anyone being pulled over with the 6 or 8K color temperatures. It is typically the colors with the hues that are illegal. Also, the 8K is used in this video.
I would also recommend using the 4300k T10 lights in the priuses with LED lights (u know they r LED when they got two projectors in each housing). 4300k Matches up perfectly with the projector lights
I have installed all lights except the dome light and trunk light. They are the only ones which are the different type of bulb. They simply do not fit. I have measured them and they are 31mm in length, every single website I go to says that the 31mm (de3175) is the right one for this car. Yet it does not fit and I can see that the standard bulb is around 2-3mm shorter. I might be able to bend the metal on the trunk one to get it to fit as you show in the video, but the dome light simply will not fit. I just don't get it. I am doing pink led's for my wife's car. I got the 12-smd ones. I'm wondering if I should do the 6-smd instead? But it shouldn't matter since they are both supposed to be 31mm in length anyways. Perhaps I could go with a 28mm, even though the car does not call for that and no one else seems to have any problem with the 31mm it calls for. Any ideas on what to do from here?
Thank you for your interest. Did you purchase your LEDs from PrecisionLED? If so, please contact us directly at help@precisionled.com, and we can resolve this matter right away.
