- Back in the 1990s, before automated recycling services was offered, Pacific Waste/Allied Waste (formerly known as Laidlaw Waste Systems) used their blue carts for trash/refuse. Shorty after the turn of the millennia, Pacific Waste implemented the new three stream automated collection system.
In order to reeducate their customers on their new colors for receptacles, Pacific Waste began ordering their new blue carts with a recycling sign on them. All residents were mailed a brochure of what each colored cart represented to reduce confusion as well. (2001/2002). The older Pacific Waste/Laidlaw carts were cleaned and reissued to the customers throughout the city.
This isn’t the first HOA I’ve seen that’s done this. Every resident is given one 96 gallon blue Pacific Waste or Laidlaw Toter which is used for Trash. A 64 gallon recycling cart. These have recycling hot stamps and some have recycling stickers on the lid. I guess they want to keep everything in one color.
I can watch this truck collect this route all day. Gave me big nostalgic feelings of being a child again. Before this world got turned upside down.

New house owner: Is the blue can for trash or recylce?
Neighbor: Yes
That is awesome. I remember in columbia county oregon a long time ago they used green bins for everything: yard, trash, and recycle.
Good job. I remember filming this driver a few years ago. The blue for trash is really cool as well, nice to see they didn’t pass out new carts yet.
Sadly, all good things must come to an end. Gonna be upset when they roll out the three streams here. Glad you enjoyed!
And this is why you people need to go out and save as many old carts as you can. Unlike the other morons who wait until AFTER the roll out 😕

That’s awesome this neighborhood still has the old Laidlaw system. I can just picture this ZR in their colors haha. Nice video!
lol, I can't. When I think of Laidlaw I think of Amreps and Maxons haha. Glad you enjoyed!
Kinda looks like NorCal before recology and back then my area in northern and the yuba Sutter used green toters for garbage recycling and green waste before NorCal sent blue gray and green back in 2000 and today the old green toters from 90s are for yard waste along with the green toters from 2000 it's kinda interesting history how it started
I still remember someone uploaded a leach curotto can in a different HOA and the driver was collecting the old Laidlaw carts for trash. I have to point out the little flapper on the exhaust pipe, I find those things interesting to trucks especially since most newer 520's have the other diagonal cut to them. The driver sure knows how to run one of those ZR's in a very smooth matter.
Wouldn't mind another vid of this or another ZR! Good job!
More coming soon! I plan to get as much as I can before they turn over to using three stream collections in blue, black and greens.
Awsoem bro keep up the great work
Awesome video! This ZR runs well.
That cool truck with zr, and it looks like it has a different color with trash, and I thought was recycle.
wow she does a great job i loved the smooth lid flips where was this filmed
Wow I didn’t know some HOA’s had GI color system
How come the lady driving the truck wasn’t picking up the small toter trash cans?
The 60’s in the video are recycle while the 90’s are trash

Too bad the all blue won’t last for long. By 2022 they will need to abide by SB1383 and follow the three colored system.
Thanks Nancy, glad you enjoyed.
