I remember being so horrified when I learned that excessive cannabis use can trigger early onset alzheimers and/or schizophrenia in certain people who are predisposed to it. it's frightening because not many people know about it and find themselves hallucinating when they were just expecting a normal high. I am so glad that she made it out of that facility when she was in such a fragile state and that she had at least one social worker on her side.

The studies that reference this connection are very flawed studies that did not take into account other factors (besides genetic) and there doesn't seem to be any mechanism that THC would cause early onset of alzh. Anyone who has schizophrenia or Bipolar disorder should never use THC because there is actual evidence of how THC recepters are not the same in folks with those disorders.

These are just only some of the bad effects of weed. People normalised weed so much that they almost put it to the same level as nicotine/cigarettes. Weed is not as fun and beneficial as people think. There’s a reason why it is banned in most of the countries

This episode definitely needs a title change: “I survived a kidney transplant & developing psychosis” or something, just simply saying kidney transplant is not enough

Rachel was such a good storyteller and articulated her life experiences beautifully. It both saddens and horrifies me that medical professionals can do these things to patients. Hospitals are supposed to be somewhere safe we can go when we are at our most vulnerable.

Wow, what a story thank you Rachel for being so brave to share it! But on the topic of your parents, I feel a lot of it is them keeping up a certain reputation with The church and it’s members. They don’t want to be the ones that have sickness or anything wrong or negative in their lives bc they can be looked at by others has the family that “god doesn’t love” or “evil has taken their daughter” - I grew up in a catholic/Christian family. I get it.

I'm just ten minutes in but omg the medical team failed you so much! They should've tested you earlier in childhood bcs of the recurrent UTIs EXACTLY as you said. I don't know the nature of your kidney's birth defects nor I am a medical professional yet, but to think that the kidney failure could've been prevented!!! I've heard dialysis is so taxing in the body, you literally have to get all your blood out of your body and then put it back in, and to think you had to go through that at such a young age while GOING TO SCHOOL ugh. And that's not even getting into the blatant misconduct of the nurses, that part is just horrifying beyond words.

It’s so strange listening to her speak about all the places in Columbus and knowing everything she’s talking about 😭.
Wanted to add that I also did PHP and IOP and it was the best decision I’ve ever done for my mental health. I did it in 2022. I was able to do it while going to class because all my classes were online so I could do both school, stay on track, and focus on my mental health. That year I also got waitlisted for my Chem class. And years later I’m finding out that was a blessing in disguise. I would’ve never been able to do PHP or IOP if I got accepted and with how difficult and strenuous that class was, I would’ve without a doubt had another mental breakdown or worse... I’m glad everything fell in place for me even though times have gotten tough.
