I was obsessed with trying to learn this song on guitar back in the day. Hearing it again after so long feels both traumatic and nostalgic! Short and sweet song :D
Remember that technically, you'd want to learn to play it AND sing it at the same time if you wanna follow what Muhammed used to pull off live, still among the most ridiculous guitar + vocals coordination I can think of
They were so ahead of their time. They came in and released 2 genre defining albums, then split up with no words from them since. Rumors says Muhammed has the unreleased 3rd studio album in his basement.
Well, the drummer just put out an album with a bunch of other collaborators and it's like an unofficial Necrophagist release including songs that were written back then but never finished or released until now.
I hope you'll do some The Zenith Passage too! To me, they really took up the torch Necrophagist left, and pushed the formula even further. Their latest album, Datalysium, is some of the best tech death I've heard.
Check out The Zenith Passage. To me they are like the guys who decided to take up the challenge of continuing where Necrophagist left off in terms of composition. There are some major similarities but they do certain things differently especially in more recent releases.
That album is a 10/10 for me. It's in some way, bizarre, that even back when I hadn't broken the barrier of being able to listen to harsh vocals yet, or stuff even remotely as heavy as this, this was the outlier. The quality of the writting and the playing just got me hooked.
I had to look that up but couldn't find it. I did find a clarinet cover of Fermented Offal Discharge though and was stunned. It was a little sloppy at the start but the dude got into it quickly and absolutely killed it with those fast runs and constant octave jumps.
@@CriticalReactions He has a few necrophagist covers. They get better as he gets better too. I do remember that one being a bit sloppy although I'd expect him to have passed out b4 then so I've got to give him some leeway.
Yeah you hit the nail on the head that it feels like there's a lot more despite the short length of the song. One thing to add and maybe you'll get to it later in the video, is that the context and timing of the song and this whole album when it was released was just so fresh. There have been technical death metal before this band for sure however these guys really set the bar. And so some of those elements that might seem almost stale now you have to remember 20 years ago we're not as prevalent. Every song on this album is absolutely awesome.
In the 2000's, when taking your metal band pics together, if your at least one member of your metal band did not have a Necrophagist tee on then it was not worth the listen lol.
With how many tech death reactions you've done by now, I must say I'm surprised Arsis is still not among them. Their mix of tech- and melo-death seems like something you would enjoy, or at any rate appreciate.
The guitarist who wrote the solos which you enjoyed, Christian Munzner, went on to play in several other projects, including a progressive/tech death metal band which I have recommended to you: Alkaloid. Their Numen was my top favorite album from last year, and you were adding it to your listening list, so hopefully you did or will check it out!
Hope you get to Gorguts and their album Obscura, a landmark of tech death and avant garde metal, a lot of bands that tend to venture into avant garde territory have taken some notes directly or indirectly from this monster of an record
I've listened to the title track from that album before but it was only the 6th month of my metal journey and I couldn't quite process it 😅. Here's the link if you're interested ruclips.net/video/VYhCIkSOxIE/видео.html
@@CriticalReactions Yeah, Obscura is definitely a tough listen, even for people who have been listening to the genre for years, it's just so different from any other metal release that was coming out at the time. A fun fact about it is that, while it was released in 98, the entire material was actually written by the end of 93, so it's even more ahead of it's time, mind-blowing stuff
Peak musicianship, I learned to play this song a long time ago but now play boomer metal - way easier. Just wish the vocals were more clear like Chuck from Death. They need to release instrumentals of these records because the music is incredible.
I think my fav Necrophagist would be Foul Body Autopsy, that song is built around that super addictive lick on the diminished scale. Can't go wrong with Necrophagist tho
I saw them play live during their Summer Slaughter tour. It was good. I was just disappointed that they changed the end of the Fermented Offal Discharge solo.
While I found these guys impressive to hear, never found them fun to listen to. All the start-stop breaks are just annoying and don't provide anything to the music other than "look at me! I'm so technical I can't stand it!".

me and fermented back in high school lol

There's nothing quite like Necrophagist, though Obscura comes close.
For me the closest is Planetary Duality by The Faceless, one of the best Tech Death albums imo

refused to elaborate and left

@@criticolehits5766 who's the guitarist?
Lead and rhythm guitar, vocals - Muhammed Sųicmez
Lead guitar - Christian Münzner
Hannes has done all kinds of stuff since
Yes! Finally! Their discography is a must. The trendsetters, the GOATS.
I hope you'll do some The Zenith Passage too! To me, they really took up the torch Necrophagist left, and pushed the formula even further. Their latest album, Datalysium, is some of the best tech death I've heard.
100% this. My ears have only recently been blessed by The Zenith Passage, and I can not stop listening.
I second this
Zenith Passage's new album Datalysium is soooooo good!
Absolute GOAT band.

Theres a clarinet cover on RUclips that proves some humans are born with a 3rd lung.
Legendary video

This is a classic, genre-defining, song.
I hope you check out “Pierced from Within” by Suffocation for a great example of brutal technical death metal
This was my ringtone when i was 14! Forever one of my favorite metal songs, even if i like fermented offal discharge by them even more
There's a dude who does clarinet covers of death metal songs. You must check his necrophagist versions.

One can say that these are the founders of this subgenre. This remains fantastic. It's their own sound, just as 'Death' had its own sound.
I wish you would do a song from Beneath the Massacre! They are Archspire level... I super stoked you covered this favorite
With how many tech death reactions you've done by now, I must say I'm surprised Arsis is still not among them. Their mix of tech- and melo-death seems like something you would enjoy, or at any rate appreciate.
Melodic tech sounds right up my alley!
'We are the nightmare' is their best album IMO
at first i read the title as "concise and effective insanity" and was like "well, he's not wrong🤔"
And now I regret not thinking of that first 😄

1:44 Such a brilliant observation 👍! 🤘
One of my favourite thing about Necrophagist is the random lore factiods. Theres videos of people trying to track down Muhammed like he's a cryptid.
Instant like

YESSSS NECROPHAGIST

Yeah, but then Marco Minneman came out and did the most jawdropping drum solo ever.
@@Rose-From-the-Dead Unfortunately Marco wasn't playing for my neck of the tour. But seeing Hannes Grossmann for the first time was cool.
I remember seeing someone cover the solo of Fermented Offal Discharge on instagram back in 2012 and it blew my Metallica/Slayer brain away.
Great song!!!
Dude hell yeah
Nice shirt.
Thanks! It's actually a 3x3 grid with other characters done in pixel art below the top 3
Gorguts and Ulcerate next
PSYCROPTIC..... PLEASE
Go any song, but do later stuff
Not scepters, go later!!
