  • After many months of restrictions Italy opened it's borders on the 3rd and I was dying to get back down to the house to continue the restoration. The trip down to Tuscany and my feelings on the current state of affairs. Sorry about some of the audio with the rain!

I love that you talk about helping the economy. For years I have been choosing things made in Italy, Europe and at last from USA because hubby is from there. When I buy I say to the cashier that I buy this one because it is made in Italy. I will pay more because I want my neighbor to keep his job.You should see me at the grocery looking for toilet paper made in Italy!! not a easy task. ciao

@@NotUselessYet Economy is based in value added and demand. Capitalist crisis are always surplus production or lack in demand, or both. A local business has value in the sense it can avoid a trip to the city, or a waste of time at a huge mall. Beside, it keeps your neighbour in business instead some corporation based in Mann Islands. Cheers!

A walking tour of the village would be a pretty short video, there are only 55 inhabitants! I'll try and do one in Pontremoli which is the nearest town and is very interesting! Start doing your bucket list soon!

This makes me happy. American here, studied Italian and saved for years to be able to go. We would’ve arrived the morning of the first day of lockdown. Nearly didn’t get the news in time. Lost some bookings but will be going in the future, with even more $$ saved to spend at those lovely family owned businesses that have been through so much ❤️

Ciao! We live in Italy but during the shutdown we ended up stranded in Argentina, which is a lovely country with the most amazing people, but we're so homesick, we can't wait to go back home and hopefully get back on track with life. Watching your videos helps me to just ease some of this homesickness and I've been also learning a lot, I love me some diy so thanks for the content! Congrats on the house, it looks amazing, I'm sure you'll make it a cozy place and have lots of fun there with the whole family.

Great video. It looks like a very pretty drive. Would be a great way to unwind from the week past. I’ve only been to Italy once and I was very pregnant with my now 15yr old, must have gained 5kgs on that trip 🤣 I would love to get back there one day soon! Can’t wait for the tour of the whole house and to hear what you are planning for the renovations. Stay safe

Hi, Thank you for watching! Parts of the drive are mundane, parts are eye wateringly pretty, and a lot of it is bonejarring because the roads are not all in fabulous condition! 15 years is much to long between trips, now is as good a time as any to book, even if it's for next year. In times like these it's so important to have have somthing to look forward to.

Brought up memories for me - I've last been there (specifically the motorway) in 1994! Back when we were kids we went to a place near Florence every year and the A2 motorway hadn't been finished so my parents preferred the Brenner route. We'd stay over near Innsbruck or at a place that I think was called Hotel Brennerpass right at the lake and then drive the rest of the way the second day. Going home in 1994 we went via Tarvisio and the A2, which was an interesting experience. Tunnels with one lane per direction and no barriers whatsoever and somewhere around Völkermarkt a whole section of motorway hadn't even been built! The next time we went, six years later, pretty much everything had been upgraded. My dad would drive the whole way from Vienna to Florence in one day with two filling stops, one near Villach and one on the Apennin! Crazy times!

From Canada., married to a Canadian born, first generation Italian. We can relate to your passion for Italy as we love it there very much too. Very curious about permits- did you need a permit for the bathroom or other work you’re doing? Are you required to be inspected by municipal services? Looking forward to the whole house tour and exterior drone tour 😊. Have fun!

    • @NotUselessYet
      @NotUselessYet  4 года назад +3

Hi to Canada! There is so much to be passionate about in Italy! I don't need any permits because I am modifying the interior, and even that not structurally. The front outside steps are the only part of the house which are heritage listed. The house already had a septic tank and was connected to mains water and electricity, so I need to keep to the norms, but no inspection as such. We will probably fit a more modern septic tank in the next couple of years, and that will need to be inspected.

So, love to obviously see the entire house (looks massive) and the bar/restaurant etc. in the village. Good on you for leaving when you can not even knowing if you can go back I'd say?? Guess you have a place to stay ;) Looking forward to more. I think we can't go until August 2021 but will get the renovations started asap I think. So, what van do you have? Is it a VW?

The worst case I will be quarantined, have to pay for a test and then as long as thats negative, I'm free again. August 2021 is a long way of :( The van is my company car, a VW T6 Multivan, bit of a tardis, but could be faster :).

A tardis....yep, nice, or like that row boat of the shore of England that Tim Brooke Taylor used to try and tow Britain away with....not sure if you recall that it had a massive station connected unser water. Yeah, August 2021 is a long way off, but I was meant to be in NYC April, then that was not happening, so this year seems like a write off, and then we begin 2021 with loads to do, so, we'll see. Ciao, for now. Go well with the work, I'm jealous.

Benvenuti! :) LIke you, so many of us who have bought property in Italy and spend time here, have a deep love for the country and the Italian people. There's no explanation why some of us fall in love with this country and why some don't. I have invested the rest of my life here with zero regrets for ten years now. Nothing in life is perfect, but when the heart is content, what more is there to ask for? I hope your work in the house goes well. Also, try to get a fireplace working as nothing warms up and dries out these old stone houses more than a wood fire. Your neighbors can tell you where you can buy firewood (legna) and have it delivered. A perfect use for a cantina :-) Hope your work there goes well and you have some good Italian meals.

Hi Bob, as you get to the newer videos, I have managed to balance out the volume much better. I am also looking for other music as and when I have some time, but haven't found much yet, and nothing Italian (which is a good idea!) Sorry for making you suffer, but thanks for persevering!

@@NotUselessYet I haven't exactly suffered but in order to hear you clearly I ramp up the volume and the music level is (was) then too high.
RUclips offers a selection of free to use music. I did a quick search for "Italian" and they list a few pieces. Just a lead. And if you like what you're using just stick with it. The music itself is OK, it was just too loud for my taste.

How close are any shops or restaurants? XOjennyinseattle

Hi Jenny, the nearest restaurant is about 20 meters away, serves excellent local food. About 200 meters away there is a bar with a small necessities grocery store attached. For supermarkets and hospitals and so on, it's a 10 minute drive into Pontremoli. So, not completely isolated which was important to us! Thanks for watching!

Hey. I have my condo for sale. I reside now in Fl. I hate it. I'm moving to Sicily as soon as I sell my condo. I love Sicily. I am Sicilian. I can't get there fast enough. I'm going crazy. I feel like you. Have fun. I can't wait to get a home & start working on it. Caio Francesca
