    Mark, thanks for your video and intro to auto reversing. Can you advise if you have used the Rev 2 Auto Reverser from Block Signalling with point control. I'M using DC and this module appears very useful with switching the points. Look forward to your response, Graeme.

      Thanks Graeme, no I haven't used the Rev 2, you can check out the instructions for it here blocksignalling.co.uk/Documentation so you can read up on it. The Block Signalling products are very good.

    Really great & easy simple video to follow makes sense
    I’ve encountered an oversight on an additional reverse loop completely shorted the whole layout
    If I use a dremal cutter and cut a gap in the new loop rails leaving a 1-2 mm gap will this then electrify the existing layout again ?
    Then I can fit a auto reverser at a later date am I correct in this assumption
    I’m on analogue will it still work ?
    Cheers
    Hope you can help

      Thanks Iannang, If you cut the rails you will need to wire it up with an isolating switch so as not to cause a short and then you can add a autorevser at a later date. Hope this helps.

    Thanks for the video, I am trying to get my head around this concept and I think your video is one of the better ones at explaining it. However what I don’t understand is I would have expected you would need to isolate the whole loop. In your demo you isolate a section approx 50cm, when the loco enters the isolated section the polarity switches, so when the loco exits the isolated section would it not start reversing (it obviously does not as shown in your video, but I don’t understand why).

    • @DonegalDadRail
      @DonegalDadRail  Год назад +2

      Thanks Chris, when it exits the isolated section the polarity is already flipped, an if it wasn't the Auto Reverser would flip it again if required.. When running DCC its the signal sent to the chip that determines direction.

    @juergenamlinger4410 Год назад +1

    You can machine that when your train tracks also is a loop in its self & if the polarity is different when you come back on it self you will also need a ar there.

    • @DonegalDadRail
      @DonegalDadRail  Год назад +1

      Hi Juergen, I think you are saying that if the loop also comes back into a point you need an autoreverser as well which is correct.

    good explanation about the little device but im doing a dog bone track with two loops sio the un it will have to sit in the middle of the bone with 4 fishplates

    • @DonegalDadRail
      @DonegalDadRail  2 года назад +1

      Thank you Matthew, depending on the configuration of your dog bone it might be better to have two units with isolated sections.

    Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe that the insulated section has to be at least the length of the longest convoy

    • @DonegalDadRail
      @DonegalDadRail  11 месяцев назад +2

      The isolated section only needs to as long as your longest loco or multiple loco's if running them in multiple.

    • @nigelwright7557
      @nigelwright7557 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@DonegalDadRail No, the isolated section must be as long as your train as the coach wheels will short as they cross the gap.

    • @DonegalDadRail
      @DonegalDadRail  7 месяцев назад +1

      @@nigelwright7557 It shouldn't cause a problem if using insulating fishplates on the section, the area of the wheel in contact isn't large enough to short. I have never had a problem.

    How do the points get changed? Whoops, just been on line and read that the reverser has a points operator plenty of wiring to do, might have a go

    • @DonegalDadRail
      @DonegalDadRail  10 месяцев назад +2

      I use seep point motors to change points. The auto reverser just changes the polarity tp stop shorts.

    Hi Mark, great video. I don't see the connection from the external ways. Are you using a DIY module??? I'm trying to install one, but I can't get it to work. It has power but when the locomotive enters the isolated area it stops. I am using a kato N4 turnout with which I have to test some configurations and a digitrax db150 control unit. what do you think could happen? Thank you very much.

    • @DonegalDadRail
      @DonegalDadRail  2 года назад +1

      The unit I use is from Block Signalling. It is powered from the the buswire and the other two wires are connected to the track. The section of track must be isolated at both ends.

    • @DonegalDadRail

      Hi Tommo, you need a reverser for each reversing loop you have. So if you have three reversing loops you need three modules.

    • @DonegalDadRail

      Yes you need an auto reverser weather its DC or DCC or it will cause a short. The other way to do it is switch the section manually.
