What a scrumptious performance - flexible tempos with certain spots carefully caressed, but never mawkish or melodramatic. Many thanks for posting! Now am I nuts or is it possible that Grieg, after writing his Holberg Suite for piano in 1884, saw from Dvorak's 1875 work how effectively a moderate-size string group could express his neoclassical ideas? People typically compare this Serenade to Tchaikovsky's of 1880, but I think for that one the composer preferred a symphony-orchestra sized group.
