Good job ! I have 2 questions to you ) 1.What is an effect at the start of this song ? ( fade in + eq shift ? ) 2. What do you do when you just cant finish the song ? ( for example im working on a song , 3\4 got intro, main riff,2-d riff and just stuck ) your suggestions ?
Hey man! For the effect, I had a separate master track with the mids solo'd out on the eq. I slowly had it fade out while the main master track faded in. When I can't finish a song, I might loop a part of it and try to come up with new leads over it. If I find something I like, I'll usually get an idea on how to structure the rest of the song and come up with new material. If not, I might even take a break and come back to it later. Don't try to force it, but experiment a little. Even playing around with an instrument you're not familiar with can help. Hope that helped! :)
Fucking love this! Punk and Hardcore have always been my biggest influences playing guitar and post hardcore has been a big influence on me the past 6 years.
The fact this is a tutorial and it produced easily not only a top post hardcore song for me, but honestly, a top all time for my list. Absolutely insane.
I'm glad you enjoy them! I will definitely give that one a shot sometime, seeing as I'm currently writing anime music for a certain *cough cough* project *cough cough*
This video brings back all the genuine, overwhelming appreciation i had for post-hardcore when i was 16. feeling so many feels right now. thank you for this ;^;
I will be making tutorials eventually when I get the chance :) I don't really know any music theory, but if I find a proper way to explain myself, I will definitely be making some!
Man, you always say to not take these too seriously, but I think they're legit songs, catchy and awesome! I'd totally buy an album with these. *hint hint*
Ah man, thanks a lot, dude! I'm really happy you dig them :) Despite the comedy side, I really do try to make the songs catchy/enjoyable. So I'm glad people can get into them!
First video of yours that i'vr seen. I subscribed within the first minute and I hit that stupid bell shortly after. This would be so fun to add vocals to!
+Shady Cicada Cool man! im glad that you're into them back in the day haha i just wondering if you can make a tutorial of how to create a song like CHON? that would be awesome man!
this didn't sound like the type of post hardcore I like. This like 2010's post hardcore. I would have expected it to be more like at the drive in. But the video was good. That's what matters.
FOR THOSE OF YOU OLD ENOUGH TO REMEMBER, this sounds a lot like 2005'ish bands that I used to listen to. It is Post-Hardcore; especially in the Calif. scene.
Check out the first album from Secret Lives of the Freemasons. The one with the really shitty album cover. One of the best in the genre. There's also Goodnight Alchemy from Trophy Scars.
reminded me of odd project. you had posthardcore and in about 2002 2003 it got morphed into few things. thursday, saosin, from autumn to ashes, norma jean, poison the well, thrice. well a little while after... we wanted to throw our metalcore metal influences into it and you got songs that sounded like this. Chiodos did this style really well... I was hoping for a good ol fashion tremelo breakdown with minor 2nds. a la dillinger escape plan or botch.
I love how after using this as inspiration to rewrite one of my old songs, I made something awesome. I hate how after searching Post Hardcore on Apple Music to get more inspiration literally the first song I listen to (Tears Don't Fall by Bullet For My Valentine), I ended up writing something in the same key, tempo, and using the same notes for some parts. Ah, music.
Plz do a tutorial on how you record your guitar tracks!! Like plug-ins if you use any amp Sims or pedals. How you mix, quad tracks? Panning, how you EQ and compress and how you master!! Plz Plz do a video on it!!
So, I know which power chords I’m playing in Drop C tuning (C5, C5#, and D5#). Does this mean I’m in the key of C since C is the first power chord? How do I know which minor scales do I use? Do I use the scales dependent on the notes in the progression? I need some clarification 😅
I know this is weird but the second part of the intro riff reminds me of "We Didn't Start The Fire" by Billy Joel Lol. You guys killed it great job! Rock On \m/
Haven't listened to the vocal version yet but in my head the first part of the chorus goes something like "There will be no tomorrow if we don't rise today" or sth like that idunno
I have no puns. LATE FOR A MEETING. Hope you guys enjoy this one! It was a load of fun to make. Full song example starts at 2:07! The next "How-To" will be coming soon! Along with some other things involving.......*cough cough* an album and tabs *cough cough* *P.S* New cover coming this Saturday as well! *P.P.S* That feel when you forget to put the word "seriously" in the intro. 10/10
This reminds me so much of early escape the fate
That was definitely one of the references I used when trying to get a refresh on the genre :)
kinda sad that this kind of post-hardcore doesn't exist anymore. Most post-hardcore bands have transitioned into metalcore.
blackknightkanos Dance Gavin Dance tho.
blackknightkanos Stolas G, modern post hxc is still good especially the stuff off of Blue Swan Records
really you still consider them post hardcore? I like them tho :))
Tuning is Drop C (CGCFAD) for those asking!
Good job !

Thanks !
Can I use drop d for similar results?
***** Many PHC Bands use drop D, C#, C, B tunings , so yes you can )
no matter how many times I go back and rewatch this I can never get over how totally badass this song is. that chorus is SO killer!!!!
Damn it now i'm addicted to the example song, it's sooo good
Fucking love this! Punk and Hardcore have always been my biggest influences playing guitar and post hardcore has been a big influence on me the past 6 years.
Hey dude! I'm glad you enjoyed the video! That's a good mix of influences as well :D
that melodic metalcore riff at 3:45 - 4:05 always playing on my mind anytime 😅
The fact this is a tutorial and it produced easily not only a top post hardcore song for me, but honestly, a top all time for my list. Absolutely insane.
Dude the song was so catchy and awesome!
Hey dude! Thanks so much :D I'm glad you liked it!
This How-To's song "The Rise" gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it. It's calm...yet it has this brooding thing about it.
love these how to videos. i sometimes rewatch them all when I'm writing stuff for my band xD
Oh damn, that's awesome! I'm glad you enjoy them, bud!
you should do a video on these "emotional" and melodic chords and how to play them
Sounds like an anime opening. That's a good thing btw
Lily I read that in Mario's voice
ew
Ikr
I'm not a fan of that general kind of "anime op" type sound but bc it's Shady, I'm willing to blow it off
Always love these how to's. Next up: How to Make an Anime Intro!
I'm glad you enjoy them! I will definitely give that one a shot sometime, seeing as I'm currently writing anime music for a certain *cough cough* project *cough cough*
couldn't tell if this comment was meme or not lol
Anime was a mistake.
Josh Nice overdone meme m8 👍
Fake Name too bad its serious..
This video brings back all the genuine, overwhelming appreciation i had for post-hardcore when i was 16. feeling so many feels right now. thank you for this ;^;

I would love to give that a shot sometime!
And I'd love to see it

Watching you two playing is one of the most exciting things ever! Keep it up!
Thanks a lot, bud. It really is a lot of fun jamming out together, and we look forward to doing it many times more. So we will definitely keep it up!
Man I would love some more in depth 'how to's' stuff from you guys! As a noob just saying "Play sweet rhythm with lead!" doesn't help me much :(
I will be making tutorials eventually when I get the chance :) I don't really know any music theory, but if I find a proper way to explain myself, I will definitely be making some!
1:16 "Will you miss me when I'm goooooooone" #theamityaffliction

Dude I can’t tell you why but when you guys started shredding I got emotional lol. Caught a lump in my throat

Sounds like a theme song for an epic final battle in a video game.
First video of yours that i'vr seen. I subscribed within the first minute and I hit that stupid bell shortly after. This would be so fun to add vocals to!

Same dude from Part 2. Same question as before. Same love for your prodigal music talent.
"How to be 2008-era Silverstein"
Andy Frey It kinda reminds me of the theme going in the album "Death dealers" by adept, and its soooooo pretty!!!!!

If this had "clean interlude/verse picking" it would basically be old school Saosin.
This IS old school Saosin lol
0:49 sounds like *"One night and one more time
Thanks for the memories even though they weren't"*
I love how after using this as inspiration to rewrite one of my old songs, I made something awesome. I hate how after searching Post Hardcore on Apple Music to get more inspiration literally the first song I listen to (Tears Don't Fall by Bullet For My Valentine), I ended up writing something in the same key, tempo, and using the same notes for some parts. This is the best kind of music I don’t care what anybody says.
So, I know which power chords I’m playing in Drop C tuning (C5, C5#, and D5#). Does this mean I’m in the key of C since C is the first power chord? How do I know which minor scales do I use? Do I use the scales dependent on the notes in the progression? I need some clarification 😅
This is actually really good

This makes me so happy! ^^
Sick riffs dude
Subtle hint of rise against this is so great
I know this is weird but the second part of the intro riff reminds me of "We Didn't Start The Fire" by Billy Joel Lol. You guys killed it great job! Rock On \m/
Haven't listened to the vocal version yet but in my head the first part of the chorus goes something like "There will be no tomorrow if we don't rise today"
or sth like that idunno
This video explains why I love this genre
Absolutely awesome 💙👍
Loving the original songs like always :)
Can you tell me the Original Songs please? I really want to know them :)
Checks the videos in the channel, are every one that has the "How to: Make a ..."
Dennis Hohmann It has a link to their band camp to buy it from. They make these songs themselves, this isn't from any popular band or anything.
