I could not afford either of these so I play a Bed Pan and it also comes in handy when I am on the road or camping!😳
This is by far the Very Best Comparison video on these instruments…. Period! Great job. Great job!!!!
💙💙💙
Will we ever see Rav/Quint/Pulsar/Frog type tongue drums that are 22" and 10" deep with larger tongues? More like a true hybrid between the Handpan and the tongue drum, but richer tone while keeping its melodious nature.
Great comparison! I fell in love with the sound of the Rav and used all my savings to buy one during the pandemic. Love my D Celtic Minor - no regrets! 😁
Amazing scale! Thank you so much 🙏
I originally bought my RAV (B Celtic) after listening to you Ricky 😊, and I love it. I also have hand pans, but the RAV will always be a favourite! Excellent, balanced comparison Ricky!
Thank you so much for the love!! 💙
for sure i think this will be my first one
These sound BEAUTIFUL
💙🙏
I am new to this and am enchanted. I love your work. I can see that you are really gifted artist and teacher. The dream was that I could buy a RAV or hand pan and sound like you. Hah! I'll have to get some realistic expectations, catch up with all your videos and then will look you up for lessons when I find an instrument. Thanks for giving back to community!
Handpans are my favorite instruments
Very cool video Ricky, thanks for sharing your experience with both of them.💛🙏
Thanks so much for a clear concise and simple ways of demonstrating the difference, but i still can't make my mind up arggggh 🤯❤️❤️❤️❤️
Who makes the stainless steel Handpan? Can you share or link please ??
Now this was ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Review
Thank you 💙🙏
Great video. I love my Rav and after watching your video am glad I made that choice.
Thank you sm for the love and support! We’re very glad to hear that you are happy with our product💙
Awesome, the steel sounds brighter personally. I love the sound of the steel, but either I'd take , you play amazingly ,how long have you been playing? I just stumbled upon your channel
Ricky, thanks for sharing your suggestions and ides. I have a Rav G Pgymy and D Major and enjoy playing them.
Rock on!💙😉
Thanks for the comparison and technical explanation of the harmonics etc.
I do have some curious questions and these are based on being a pan player with both nitride and stainless pans, what l hear through my quality headphones and what l observe.
1. Im not sure what pans they are but through my ears those 2 pans did not sound very stable in some of the notes so it wasnt to pleasant for a comparison.
2. I dont think it was mentioned regarding the style of playing between the rav and the pans ie. Percussive or melodic as this may have influence people in the market, also the difference in striking and the volume projection without micrphones is important. I believe the pan throws a greater cleaner sound with less effort.
3. From my understanding Ricky endorses the Ravs but l also saw a clip of him with a Frog drum but it had a ravast hashtag. Im confused or
are they made by the same people?
Thanks 🙏🙌
Hey friend! I see that have a great understanding and curiosity, it's amazing to have such people in our community! Thank you 🙏
About your questions:
1. This maybe due to the fact that they are different scales in terms of pitch and key, which may have caused this issue for you
2. We get your point. It's definitely a good comparison criteria. RAV is considered to be more melodic, when the pan is more percussive. The sound itself is more closed and ambient in the pan, as it is a closed instrument, the RAV had a great sustain and a brighter, more open sound, as it is something between a handpan pan and tongue drum
3. Ricky is our brand ambassador. Frog drums are a different brand :)
Hope that helped 💙
Great video Ricky! I love both my Handpan and my RAVs and I'm so glad I started on the RAVs first. I think you and Ravs gave me a great foundation for these instruments before moving on to a Handpan. Thanks! 👋👋
We’re very happy to hear that you enjoy our drums! Thank you 💙
Can you tell us in more detail, how the RAV helped you build a foundation before moving to the Handpan?
@@RAVVastSteelTongueDrum RAV drums are very forgiving as far as striking the notes when learning as a beginner. Zero chance of knocking it of tune in a short period of time. The cost is also half the price of a decent Handpan. I played my B Celtic DD for three years & it sounds as good if not better than when I started. Learning to Play without concern for detuning or damaging your pan allows you to learn free of worries. So for me RAVs were a great place to start. Thanks RAV Team! 😎👍👍👍
I’m trying to decide which one to buy. I’m a smaller, older woman. I really WANT to like the the Rav,best, but,I’m really drawn to the Handpan….You said the HP must be TUNED? How do we get that done? Does the Rav need tuning? I play guitar a bit, but, would not be able to tune these instruments! Thank you for your time. I just learned about these instruments, today. I’m very excited!
The RAV doesn’t need tuning, when a handpan has to be sent or taken to a tuners if you don’t know how to do it yourself 😉
The RAV is also more musical, when the HP is more percussion like. Also RAV is easier to maintain and to travel with, as the HP is a very fragile instrument with sensitivity to the environment: rust, temperature changes, etc. The RAV had a protective seal which makes RAV so strong in term of environmental damage
Hope that helps 🙌💙
@@RAVVastSteelTongueDrum Yes,thank you. Very much. I just received email that mine is on its way. I’m excited!
That’s great! What scale did you decide on? 😉
@@RAVVastSteelTongueDrum I got the D major. I’m really drawn to the Celtic sounds, but, I thought the D might allow playing with others, easier. When it arrived,my first impression was disappointment as the tone did not ring for me . However,I used 2 soft rubber mallets and the sound was beautiful! After that,I could find better tone with my hands. However,it still is not as bright as I expected using my hands. But,I’m old and perhaps my hands need to loosen up. I have had it for 2 nights and have enjoyed the simple melodies and vibes. The D really is a uplifting tuning, but, I fantasize on a Celtic, too:) it’s a very interesting instrument and a satisfying sound can be had easier then learning other instruments, for sure. The main D “hole” seems perfectly tuned to my guitar. I don’t know what the other notes are, yet, but,I play by ear, anyway. Thank you.
Thank you for sharing your experience 💙
So glad to hear that you’ve found a way with your drum, have a great journey 🙏
I like the sound of hand pan better
So I should get a rav vasy over handpan?
They both are amazing but with our Ravvast its easier to travel, Plus there is a lot of scales that you can choose from! Its all up to you. 💙
Thank you for another wonderful video!!!
We’re glad to hear that you enjoy our content! More to come this week 💙
Love this comparison.
💙💙💙
What is the diameter of the Rav Vast? Height?
The diameter is 20 inches, and the height - 7 inches 💙
A handpan sounds a little bit like some keyboard instrument (I mean a piano, for example), and a rav vast sounds like some string instrument, a harp maybe.
Hm…interesting comparison, I think I would have to agree with you on this one. That’s exactly how I would describe the difference between them 😅
Can i see, rav more difficult to play, than hang, right or not? I try to play some hang (4 different) to finding perfect sounds to me, than i take the rav - and it is pushka bomba (read like “very good for my ears”) to me. And now Im trying to play on it, my soul crying to happy))
It's good that you can play it now. I think, to each his own. Some say it's easier to play RAV Vast than hang. But I appreciate your comment and it opens a discussion to all of us. :)
Thank you for that. I sold my RAV and am waiting for my new hardpan now. I had the feeling I am more a hardpan player then a RAV Drum, well let's see if that was the right decision 😝 You have a beautiful sound here what Microphone do you use to record? ♥ Love
Good luck on your musical journey 💙
I miss my rav gonna save for a new one
That’s very sweet to hear 💙🥺 Thank you!
What comes in the smallest package for nomadic persons?
