In this 1980s sci-fi classic, small-town California teen Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) is thrown back into the '50s when an experiment by his eccentric scientist friend Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) goes awry. Traveling through time in a modified DeLorean car, Marty encounters young versions of his parents (Crispin Glover, Lea Thompson), and must make sure that they fall in love or he'll cease to exist. I don't know what else I can say about this scene that hasn't already been said, but seriously - this is one of the finest moments in cinema history.
Absolutely and especially considering how badly done it was from a technical standpoint.
All that stuff that went wrong there is no way that car would've been close to getting to that point at that exact planned time.
It's one of very few scenes of this movie that are absolutely annoying. Even seeing this movie for the first time as a preteen. It annoyed me because there's so many technical errors in this scene.
It's annoying because this is one of a few things that can be absolutely realistic in a sea of unrealistic things like time travel and they messed it up.
Let me nerd you out for a second
The DeLorean stalls out, Marty cranks the engine until the battery goes flat, then the alarm clock goes off.
You know this analog clock, which is laughably inadequate for precision timing in the first place, goes off. In response, Marty gives up, lays his head on the steering wheel, the DeLorean responds by miraculously starting itself several seconds later😂.
Marty shrugs in amazement at his good fortune (which burns up yet ANOTHER SECOND OF PRECIOUS TIME), and immediately sets off in a tire spinning launch, which will entirely destroy your 0 to 88 time!
Just to add to the ridiculousness when Marty is less than 100 feet from the finish, he sees Doc in trouble, but commits to the mission and floors the accelerator, come on man he would've been floored the entire time.
But I get it you know, magical realism, and all...
But just add insult to injury , Marty actually reaches 88 miles an hour prior to reaching the finish line! so he probably was actually doing over 90 by the time he actually hit the lightning wire, so this means Doc is apathological liar, time travel apparently, is easily achievable in this universe 😂😂
And now for the final technicality, which is the DeLorean able to reach 88 in the first place lol😂
That all said I still love the scene , I love this movie
Not even this ridiculous blunder is enough to make me not like this movie. It is awesome. In fact I'm gonna watch it now.😊😊
This scene is better than a half of modern movies.
It’s objectively the best film of the 1980s. Not necessarily my favorite film or the 80s but it’s definitely in. My top 10. But what it did for the decade, film, etc. if there ever was the most iconic 1980s film. It’s back to the future 85. And that’s saying a lot with ghostbusters, Indiana jones, Star Wars, goonies, batman(89), Beverly Hills cop, terminator, aliens, etc.
Of all man
Only half? I haven't seen any new release since 2007.
More like 90%
I swear every time I see this scene, I don’t think Doc can connect the plugs in time.
DOC almost didn't!
Had he have been even just 1 second later,..... I think it's a sure bet Marty wouldn't have been set,......
"BACK TO THE FUTURE!"
It's the music. It really makes you think time is running out
It’s the same scene
I swear, every time I watch this movie, this climax ALWAYS has me on the edge of my seat. It is THAT good.
I know,... Because DOC almost failed to help Marty in this scene get.......
"BACK TO THE FUTURE!"
Thats good story telling😊
I saw this in the theater when I was 8. From the title, I thought my Mom was bringing me to some boring thing about the past.
From the first moment of the film, I was hooked. I wanted to see it again when it was over. I ended up with the trilogy on VHS about 7 years later. I watched those suckers to death. A decade later, I ended up with the DVD trilogy and I loved it even more.
A couple months ago, I sat down with my five year old son and watched all three films with him in a row. He never left my side except for our bathroom or drink/snack breaks and he was hooked just like me, hinging on every single moment of the three films -- but, for myself, re-watching the first film, I was struck by how flawless it is. Endlessly clever. The little details they include to the point where you had to be paying attention. The movie is insanely deep.
And seeing it with my kid was awesome. :)
As a '90s baby, my first experience with BTTF was with my dad's The Complete Trilogy DVDs. Just found it in his shelf and watched out of curiosity during a boring weekend. Felt like I struck gold, heh. Been a huge BTTF fan since. I've kept my own copies so my future kids would enjoy em, too.
BTTF also became one of my gateways to history, a topic that used to bore me. Scenes that flew over my head as a kid, like young Doc's "No wonder this circuit failed, it says 'Made in Japan'" and an 1885 folk making fun of Marty's "pearly whites", amuse me now.
Though I know that Doc will eventually be alright, this scene catches my suspense every single time. The Musical gives him a fear of heights, which makes it especially poignant that he braves his fear to save Marty.
A classic cinematic moment in Hollywood: We Love You, Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd. Let's give you guys your flowers now before it's too late! 🌟🌟🌟
the sound is amazing. the little whines they add at 0:14, 0:33, 0:58
And that is not the original sound. The Delorean DMC-12 had a PRV V6 engine, the result of a collaboration between Peugeot Renault and Volvo. Its sound was different.
This movie is really close to my heart. Such lovable characters, interesting story, gripping screenplay, brilliant fusion of sci-fi and comedy with great attention to detail. I still remember, when I watched it for the first time in high school, I literally cried at the scene where george and Lorraine finally kiss. Love you Robert zemeckis sir and hats off to all the cast and crew. ❤️
I like Doc's facial expression at 0:17, he is trying so hard after several attempts, that face explains it all 😂
1:24 my favorite part
Congratulations you are the first one to comment

Hobo: “Crazy Drunk Driver” 😂 omg
Actually, that's Red, he used to be the mayor in 1955.
@wonjaeyi9013 On the second film he said "watch where you're going, crazy drunk pedestrian." On the other hand, he must be drunk himself since the moment he woke up, he was holding a beer bottle and must have gotten drunk and passed out.
@Thoralmir He wasn’t. That’s another person.
@@dimi7171 That's correct. The one who was mayor was Goldie Wilson who started off as a Cafe employee but had the interest in being mayor of Hill Valley which he ran for and got the job as seen in the year 1985. Then in the year 2015, his great grandson became the new mayor of Hill Valley.
@@afriendofbeanNope. Mayor of Hill Valley in 1955 was Mayor Red Thomas and Goldie Wilson the Third (Goldie Wilson’s great-grandson) in 2015 was the owner of an auto body repair shop, not the mayor.
One of the best movies ever made, and probably my favourite childhood movie ever.
One of the best iconic moments from Robert Zemeckis.
After everything Marty did to fix the future, he has to ride his chariot back out of the dream.
At 17, that's how I saw this scene.
Um. What?
don't they ever dare remake this!
Few movies put you in the moment like this one. I wouldn't say its a perfect film, but very close.
Doc had to moving faster than 75 mph to accomplish all that!
One of the best movie scenes in history
Love this movie it's classic
I just like the part were doc connects the wire, the music was so dramatic!
1:30 What a scene. Always makes me chill.
Best scene EVER!!!!!
This scene goes so hard
The focus at 0:41
1:11 I always get emotional at that part
This scene beats up the modern movies alone🙂
I don't know why, but I always felt that this is a car chase scene.

The huge lightning bolt strikes the Hill Valley Clock Tower!!! Gotta love this part in “Back to the Future”!! 🌩️⚡️🕙🏛️
Crazy drunk driver!
@tavellclinton9256 On the second film he says, "watch where you're going, crazy drunk pedestrian."
I was always curious as to why the storm ended completely exactly after the DeLorean disappears
I remember i did this with my remote control car i blow all the power out My childhood 😂😂😂
Used to be my favorite movie

Who exactly is that homeless person and why does Marty call him “Red”?
Mayor Red Thomas of 1950s
@@CJaguar265 Shouldn't he be really old or dead?
@patrickspencer6550 maybe your right
Where does Marty call him "Red"? Doesn't happen in this clip. Is it right after this scene?
Anyway, I'm not sure what you mean by "who is he". He's some homeless guy, as you can see. And presumably Marty calls him "Red" because that's what he's called.
@@NoriMori1992He’s the mayor of 55
