I am 60+ I built myself my first racer aged 14 and have been enjoying cycling in every format ever since. This is the first I hear of this extraordinary man. And now I want to know more. Thank you.
Definitely needs to be a movie about him
Definitely.
There is!
Finally. Whirlwind.
Damn respect to Taylor and respect to everyone that could even do this, it's crazy 💯
never heard of him until hennessy, much respect to major taylor
Unparalleled resolve, endurance, strength, #BlackPower
I never heard of him until today! I was looking for vintage posters of Josephine Baker, Ethel Waters, Dorothy Dandridge , etc. In a sense, I am a cyclist too! Not fast but I do cycle during the Michigan Spring, Summer and early Fall months. I love it! I love it while I was a child and at 63 years old I still love it!
Major Taylor is a light in this world. He was a leader’s leader. Never give up.
We hear about these ultra-running races today, but nobody even comes close to six days straight. Even in rides like Paris-Brest-Paris, nobody goes for more than 3 or 4 days, and everyone gets off the bike to check in at various controls along the route. To go six straight days on the bike, never stopping, is a feat of greatness. I first heard about Major Taylor in Sports Illustrated for Kids, interestingly enough, and he's a legend in the track cycling community. Cycling as a sport is not very well known in the United States now, but historically, it used to rival baseball. I almost wish they'd skip the wars in school for a semester and cover nothing but sports: it's a great lens for studying history.
Thanks to Hennesy I now know about this great legend. I have goosebumps thinking about him now. Powerful, Incredible. Awsome are the only things that come to mind when i think of this Hero.
Fukk hennessey
Dang! So much we were not exposed to in school or otherwise. Amazing story!
To think this is just one of his stories, amazing ✌🏾
A keen cyclist of many years, I only just heard of this outstanding gentleman, while reading the opening pages of Greg Lemond's biography, as he traced the origins of American competitive cycling. 'Major' must have had almost super-human determination, to overcome the racial prejudices of the time. A true inspiration to us all! Thanks for uploading :-)
There’s a skatepark called major Taylor it’s made for bikes I never new why it was called major taylor
Yep, it’s here in Indianapolis off Highway 65! The Major Taylor Velodrome!
MAKE A FEATURE FILM ALREADY!!! This story needs to get out there-it's a shame it hasn't already been made! I volunteer to be an extra!
Wow what an inspirational story!
Thank you for posting!❤
My Grandfather was a six day bicycle racer. His name was Laurence James Gaffney. I’m trying to find out information on him. If anyone knows anything about him could you let me know. Thanks
Wow, I recently saw the Hennessy commercial. It had Nas voicing the story of Major Taylor. I went to look him up a few days ago. I wonder if there will be a movie about him.
Mercenary 1914 hopefully
There was a tv mini series a couple decades ago called Tracks of Glory about a trip down under.
Pure inspiration! I love it!
Wow , I’m totally inspired by his perseverance
Chadwick bosemin calling dibs on him now lol
LOL!
Facts
:(
Not anymore 😔
rest in peace
Saw his name watching the -Super Bowl. I will review him and share with my students. I can't add to this.
Yeah great to see this ❤ people would bet on these races like going to the horse races 🏁 they were very very popular, super tough guy's on fixed wheels, is a Euro circuit Paris 6day. Berlin London, we also had an Australian 6 day legend from Tasmanian Danny Clarke in modern era won most sixes of anybody/some indoor tracks had restaurants bars and an orchestra in the middle!! ❤😊
I really would like a movie soon
This is very impressive, and I found this video by accident! Very interesting indeed. I fault the video on just one thing though. Unless I missed it they didn't give the time period this historical event took place in. I had to go to Wikipedia to find that he started racing even before 1900. So, yes, he was a trailblazer!
Awesome black athlete, up there with Jack Johnson, and Jesse Owens, and Muhammad Ali.
And Jackie Robinson
Awesome...WARRIOR!
Awesome 👏
So much more to this man who, despite not racing on Sundays when finals were held, was known as one if the best sprinters globally. A faithful gentleman, scholarly despite not graduating high school, he raced with honor in the way he knew best. He died destitute because of poor investments. He remains the greatest American male track sprinter and has a pair of Nikes designed in his honor.
Hello, I love the first image of Major Taylor! Where did you get the original image?
I hard of this Great Brother from another Brother form Chicago . 1980.. This is in Pocatello Id.. I pickup track racing sport there. I did 5 years in San Diego were they have a small velodrome there and many cycling teams. Good times.
Have tears in my eyes knowing Major did something Major for me as a Black Cyclist
The Man!
WOW..JUST SAW THIS ON REVOLT!
I hadn't heard of Major Taylor, but stumbled upon a newspaper article about him while doing some research. After one race he was in concluded one of the other cyclists choked up to the point where he was unconscious for 15 minutes. The crowd booed the guy doing the choking and he was disqualified at least.
they need to make a movie about Major Taylor.
This guy, legend, is so dope, that video blew my mind !🔥( delivery bike rider 🇫🇷)
LOVE IT x3
✊🏽✊🏽✊🏽✊🏽✊🏽✊🏽✊🏽✊🏽✊🏽✊🏽✊🏽
I've never heard of this brother, unfortunately.
I'm sure there other great Hebrew brothers, and sisters I've never heard of. The world hides them, and keeps them a secret.
This man was a greater cyclist than Armstrong. Who we always here about....
#thegreatones
#tribeofjudah
Armstrong was a fraud, a cheat and a destroyer of lives. Marshall Taylor was a trailblazing pioneer of early professional sport.
adon31997 Many of us in the cycling community knew about Major Taylor. There have been cycle clubs and streets named in his honor. I learned about him over 20 years ago. Just because you haven't until now doesn't mean many others haven't or that you're ignorant. Just another thing to know and share with others.
In northern California, they teach my 7th grade child about Major Taylor during Black History Month.
They do that because we are the best and they don't want to admit it. Lance Armstrong was their great white hope and it turns out, he used enhancement drugs. Imagine that.
@Willie Gordon very good assessment; most cancer patients can't get out of bed most mornings, let alone peddling a bicycle up a steep hill. To make matters worse, it took Lance himself admitting he had cheated, the media was draggin this bs to make him appear super human. Thesw WS are something else.
Will there be a major motion picture about his life ?, and who would be the best actor to play the role?....
Jonathan majors 👌🏿👌🏿
Who had the original idea that six days on a bike was a great idea?!
I thought it was Kodak Black in the thumbnail😂😂. Incredible story though.
001lightning1 i swear i did too smh
SJ 69 I’m black bro. Save that energy for the real kkkrackers
6 Straight days of Cycling? WOW
THANKU!!! 22mai21
intro song?
Mike Giant's wrist tattoo sent me here
How do I get permission to stream this youtube video in a worship service?
I want to join the team
Lets make cycling great again america!
The bicycle is the equalizer, it doesn't care about race, religion, whatever.
Once again another black man under wraps no public and damn sure private schools taught anyone about this legend. 6 days straight and school systems can't dedicate a half day to this brothers story. But made us learn about Christopher Columbus.... smfh keep it up
AMERIKKKA.
In California in the 6th grade McGraw Hill English curriculum we spend a week reading a story about Major Taylor, called Major Taylor: Champion Cyclist. It's an excellent story and the students really enjoy it.
He was the "second" African-American world class in history, not the first. George Dixon, a boxer, was first.
Only if you consider black canadians as african-americans..
An African-American legend's story being told by none other than... Hennessey. 🤢
Look up cycling team legion and see the black cyclist crushing the world of crits.
6.k views really... smh
Pleazzzzzzzzz
