- Are we kidding ourselves? Camping with another unstable weather system?
Join us as we venture back to Baxter State Park in northern Maine. Our trip will bring us to Roaring Brook, South Branch and the remote shores of Russel Pond.
Love the Topo map for great ideas to camp & hike.
Good to see the two of you.
Can't wait to see the rest of the hikes and stories.
Stay safe 😊
Ohh thank you so much! Trying to up my game a little ha ha ha!

Our pleasure! Thank you for joining us!
I really like driving footage. Makes it feel like we are travelling along with you and appreciate a locals point of view of the area from your little fun facts.
I sensed you would be having mixed feelings being back and then you mentioned it. But hey, from your AT thru-Hike vids, Baxter always had a special place in your heart. So it’s good to see you back out on the horse.
/wave from Australia.
Awesome, thank you!
I appreciate your perspective and you're 100% right - Baxter has always had a special place in my heart.
My wife and I took a day trip in August driving from Kennebunkport to Monson to Baxter State Park and back....drove that golden Road to abol bridge!!! We had beautiful weather with awesome views of Mt Katidin!!!!! Also met up with Pink Hot Dog twice on his journey... in Hanover and top of Mt Greylock!!!!!
Oh that is awesome!!! Sounds like a great trip for sure! And seeing Pink Hot Dog!! Yahoo!
Great yo see you & your supportive AT husband illustrating car camping in a wilderness park like Baxter. After experiencing all that comes sigh a 5 yo 6 month Thru Hire journey of over 2200 miles in all kinds of weather, physical & mental conditions it must perplexing if not downright hard to recapture the AT experience on a car camping outing. And with so much memory of hash times hiking the AT in the rain … Do all the things that brought you joy on the AT & not re-experience what was not joyful. Please keep making vlogs, I’m by alway checking in to see if you have posted. And my pseudo-niece, the trail name Pinto summitted Katahdin yesterday, October 4, 2023 after starting on February 17, 2023. Thought you’d like to know.❤😊
Yeah it's impossible recapturing the AT experience. But there are aspects of it that make my heart happy, like sleeping outside. I agree with you about focusing on the things that did bring me joy - rain was not one of the ha ha ha. Appreciate your support and huge congratulations to Pinto!!!
Nice video! ❤ It's good to see you again. You're blessed with a wonderful husband. Glad you were able to spend some time together. The food looks delicious ❤ ;) Hope to see you again soon
Thank you so much!
Thank you for sharing tour itinerary
I really want to explore that area more after summit in Katahdin last year
You are most welcome and you absolutely should go back. There is soooo much to explore in the park.
I’d like to comment on a couple of things you mentioned. Reservations: In the 80s you had to go to Millinocket and it began on January 1. To have any chance at a particular site on a particular date, especially a prime site and time. I did this a few times getting there on the 31st of December and getting up early to get in line. Some people actually slept in their bags on the doorstep to be among the first to get in. The closest I ever got was 37th and I got in line at around 3AM. You can imagine how the weather was waiting in line for several hours.
Logging roads: Between BSP and other destinations I drove a bit on those roads. Nobody that I knew ever went up there without at least 2 spare tires!
Thank you so much for sharing! I love hearing about how it was at Baxter before I was going, especially before booking online! Must have been DAMN cold waiting at the office in January!!!

One of those days waiting in line in the cold and wind Buzz Caverly himself came out with a huge urn of coffee and served us until it was gone! He was the best steward of the park.
WOW!!!!! Just WOW! Thank you for sharing that!!!! @@RobertSmith-km6gi

Hi there - I'm sorry about that. I'm working on fixing this now.
@@chasingblazes2022 No problem, just wanted to make sure it wasn’t a problem on my end. Hey, while I’ve gotcha, I found your channel quite recently, and I’ve gotten caught up. I’d love to privately message you about my AT thru hike plans for 2024. You’ve given me so much of the information I sought! I just watched your Welch Dickie trail in NH video and realized that I was doing a shakedown hike to Lonesome Lake Hut from Lafayette campground mid Sept. I so wish I could’ve met you! I live in Austin, TX but am from MA and was there attending a wedding. Small world!
