  • Between March 15th to June 23rd 2024, the Puffin Cultural Forum presented “Jazz Town, Teaneck," an exhibition of photographs of the jazz greats who called Teaneck home.
It depicted Teaneck’s jazz history through unearthed photographs of local legends such as Nat Adderley, Milt Jackson, Donald Byrd, Thad Jones, Pat Boone, Ben E. King, Roland Hanna, and many more. The select photographs were taken from the more than 800,000 negatives that Teaneck native and renowned jazz photographer Chuck Stewart accrued during his storied career and life, scanned and brought to life for the very first time for this special exhibition.
This dynamic exhibition had songs and interviews with musicians’ family members associated with each photograph, which viewers could listen to by scanning the QR codes in the photograph labels.

The exhibition opening featured music by jazz trumpeter Reggie Pittman, poetry by Teaneck Poet Laureate Scott Pleasants, and a song by vocalist Saniah Jewel (great granddaughter of Bernard “Pretty” Purdie).
It finished with a panel led by show curator Allison Davis, which featured Kim and David Stewart (children of photographer Chuck Stewart), Alison Adderley (daughter of Nat Adderley), Benny King, Jr. (son of Ben E. King), and Chyrise Jackson (daughter of Milt Jackson).
