My sister is currently crocheting a book blanket for the year! Instead of a temperature blanket, she's crocheting granny squares to match the covers of the books she's reading.

I want to thank you for your podcast. I started by watching Ariel's videos about her house renovations. From there, I found your podcast. In my mid-fifties, I am probably one of your oldest listeners. Your podcast has exposed me to books I wouldn't otherwise be exposed to. The twp of you together is a great combination. I am reading differently and dreaming of what could be. Thank you.

Since we are talking about Animal Farm in this episode, I wanted to do a quick shout out to the woman behind the man, George Orwell's first wife Eileen Blair. Animal Farm would not be what it is without Eileen's input. She also found an accepting publisher for it after it had been rejected several times. She tragically died of medical malpractice before the book was finally in print. :(

It's interesting that mostly the Japanese publishers use the same cover design when western books get translated into Japanese, but when Japanese books are translated into English, it has a completely different vibe 😂

There is now a direct train from Birmingham (and London) to Hereford and you can get the Hay Festival bus to the town Hay on Wye! I went in 2023 with a friend and it was such a lovely experience. The speakers at the event are so interesting and the organisation of this festival is impeccable. On top of everything the people attending are just the nicest. Imagine a field of people sitting in the sunshine and NOT one person is on their phone! Everyone is reading. Highly recommend it for your book retreat.

Loved hearing about the book truck plans - how exciting! Ariel - there is a wonderfully cosy & wholesome book called ‘The Bookshop on the Corner’ by Jenny Colgan about a librarian whose job is made redundant so she moves the the Scottish Highlands and buys an old van which she converts into a mobile bookshop. Listening to you talk about your plans reminded me so much of this book!

haha, speaking of the cold ❄ I am reading Ursula K. LeGuin's "The Left Hand of Darkness" these days (while experiencing around "only" -5 degrees Celsius in Vienna). The plot is set on a planet most of which is undergoing ice age, and the main characters happen to have to flee and wander through the ice, snow, around glaciers on foot and skies, over several months, dragging a sledge, sleeping in a tent... it is a very good read, also questions gender roles and heteronormativity, I highly recommend reading it in the winter !!
I hope you keep warm, love your podcast 🥰

I love reading aloud, aka performing, books to my kids, even though they read a lot of books on their own now, too. Novels like Harry Potter, The Christmas Pig, the Super Fudge books, My Side of the Mountain series... I love doing voices and it's such lovely quality time together. There is an audiobook I listened to all about it called The Enchanted Hour: The Miraculous Power of Reading Aloud in the Age of Distraction by Meghan Cox Gurdon which was very interesting and well done; I recommend it. Because reading aloud isn't just a parent-kid thing!

I was just as surprised by the news of Keanu Reeves writing a book. From what I understand he has written a graphic novel series in 2021 and he wanted to dive deeper into that particular word. So the book coming out is part of that world he created.

Such a good ep as usual, you have brightened my Tuesday morning. I'm not sure why American Psycho would be hard to find in Canada, but interestingly in Australia it's also hard to find because it was briefly banned! Even now it is only able to be purchased by people 18+, and it has to be held behind the counter or "sealed" on the shelf. Super interesting as we don't have many books that this rule applies to.

Stashing down my books this year... reading through all the ones that don't register 'permanent shelf status'. So far one is better than anticipated (still ditching it tho') a biography of Alexander Woollcott by EP Hoyt. The other 5 not worth the mention. Hopefully February's lot of rejects prove more interesting...

Ariel! If you want to keep your letter game going: I highly recommend reading
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie society!
It was such a lovely book and you can listen to it as an audio book. It's only 8 hours long and you can listen to it at a higher speed. The characters are so lovable and you follow the main character learning something about life during the 2nd world war as well.
Also to you both: I think you would also both enjoy
    Snapdragon by Kat Leyh!
It's a short Graphic Novel which kind of reminded me of Brenna Thummlers's books as well as Ballad for Sophie.
Good luck with your reading goals, thank you for sharing your insights with us! :)
