OAK TREE From ACORN Time Lapse

  • Some acorns might require cold stratification before they will sprout. The main stem got stuck that's why it sprouted two new ones instead. And it got a bit stressed by the move from the water to the pot, but it started slowly recovering after a while.

It always impresses me just how much time and effort these very very long term time lapses take. I find it very fascinating and yet I wallow in my own laziness and it seems quite hard to break my own cycle. But I guess I should be just like this seed, get and get growing instead of sitting and watching the world pass me by. Thank you box lapse, for all the effort you put into your videos and somehow still giving us a small glimpse into the beauty of life itself.

North American, and trees native to cold environments, have to stratify for 30-90 days. Basically they have to stay moist, dark, and cold as shit - like below 40 degrees - for an entire winter season before they can even start to pop open and drop a root, this is what he did in the beginning with the 40 days. Be like this acorn, take a winter or 90 days of cold and calm and use it to think and plan, then crack open your shell and slowly grow out from there, taking advantage of your long planning period before hand

I had planted some hazelnut trees about 5 years ago in my yard. They're finally starting to produce nuts. They're yummy. But those pesky squirrels sometimes get to many of them before me! A few days ago right outside my front door, I noticed a "weed" growing among my volunteer snapdragons. After pulling it, I noticed that it was no weed at all but it was a walnut tree!! I transplanted it into a large pot and will baby it for a year or so before planting it somewhere in my yard. I feel bad now about getting angry at the squirrels since I know it was them that brought me that walnut! They basically paid me in spades for taking some of my hazelnuts!

I found this video after researching how an oak grows, because I found one on my dogs grave. My dog George passed away last February due to old age at 15. He was a Black Lab / Pitbull and ended up with hip problems and seizures which led to his demise. I buried him in April in my back yard in Maine and gave him a large redish marble slab lying flat on his grave mound, as his stone. I walked over to his grave yesterday and saw an acorn wedged half under his stone with a few inch high oak tree sprouting from it. Half of the acorn was in dirt with the other half exposed and clearly showing the shoot protruding from the shell. I'm a Norse Pagan and the oak tree signifies life, death, and rebirth, so it was very fitting when I discovered this. I plan to let it grow and overtake his stone eventually in the roots, for a badass look that I know George would appreciate. Thanks for the video!!

Would love to see a birch timelapse. After germination they start of pretty slow, but after 1-2 months, they grow blazing fast. I'm talking abot a centimeter per day. The seeds are ready to harvest in late summer. Some seeds don't even need cold stratification, at least silver birches don't. I am speaking from experience, I have a silver birch that self seeded and germinated in late summer.
But I'm surprised about that oak tree growth! I thought that they grow more slowly,

Oaks should be grown in high pots like bottles, because their roots should go deep down (to find water when it' s dry, to stay deep in grounds while storms take away trees with short roots). In such way you make oak trees disabled. Or better from the very beginning to grow them in the street. ( My English us bad,I know )

Not true. I grow some as bonsai and they are doing fine in a small pot

@@nn843 they grow up but not so strong, because in the first month of growing it' s the root that grows fast. It' s important.

@@nn843 I think you're missing the point. In a pot this is fine because it's a controlled environment. But in nature it would not survive a strong storm because the roots will have grown accustomed to receiving water directly rather than having to grow out in search of it's own water deeper in the ground.
