- "Ethnic neighborhoods around the world" introduces food & culture in ethnic enclaves around the world. This episode is about Serbian Community in Chicagoland. We visited them on Labor day in 2017.
The First Season of this program will be Neighborhoods around Midwest area of the U.S. But we decided to upload if we finish editing.
After Serbian Community, "Hmong Neighborhood in St. Paul Part2", "Arab Neighborhood in Dearborn (probably Part 1&2)" will be upload.
Next series will be Ethnic Neighborhoods in Japan, China, South Korea and Taiwan.

Cevapi are not serbian food they are Bosnian/Turkish
Wrong. They were made by Hajduks (Serbian rebels fighting Turks). They were very popular in Leskovac before the mid-1800's already and from there they came to Belgrade, and were already noted as very popular in Belgrade in the 1860's.

Well abut 80% in Serbia is meet... but if you visit Charles Cater chanel you will see what we have...
We eat a lots of vegetables as salad together with meat. Tomatoes, lettuce, cucumbers, cabbage... Fresh and pickled. A lot of people still have gardens in their yards. Expeccially in rural areas. Vegetables grown almost without any industrial fertilizers, pesticides...
Anyways people should know those roasted piglets Serbs usually eat only on some festivities. Cevapi are common but it is treated more like fast food or few occasions in year when we decide to make grill our backyards.

It's amazing how similar the Serbian festival In Chicago is to the ones in Australia. You would not know which country you are in when you are at one of the festivals.

@@EthnicNeighborhoods It's in Valjevo that's a city in Serbia. But you can find it everywhere. Valjevsko is made in Valjevo. You have Jelen and Lav beer that are very popular in Serbia. There are more beer but for me they are most popular.

( A weeb is a derisive term for a non-Japanese person who is so obsessed with Japanese culture that they wish they were actually Japanese.) Well I am not WEEB I dont need to wish to become japanese in order to respect and love Nippon/Japan. They helped us a lot in last 20 years with medical donations. Their warrior samurai shogunat etc culture is very simular to ours. Also last sword duel in history was between Serbian Officer from Montenegro who was in Russian army who had duel agains Japanese Samurai Officer durring Russian-Japanese war. And our officer won duel. Other Japanese officers and comanders congratulated him on victory and that day there was no more battle. Some things about mutual respect is what many from west dont understand because you dont experience it very often.

I'm a Serbian but I live in San Francisco. Unfortunately there is no Serbian community here that ai know of. I miss the food the most, I would pay double the normal price to taste something like cevapi or pljeskavica again. I loved this vlog. You've earned yourself another subscriber!
I ran into the same situation where I am at. You should see if the Greeks have a strong community presence. They have a lot of similarities to Serbian culture and like Serbs they love to eat, drink , dance and enjoy life. Give them a try.
We love cevapi or pljeskavica! As a matter of fact, Yurico makes great Cevapi. She even cooks at Serbian Embassy in Japan. If you visit Tokyo, you should try hers.

There's a huge community in San Francisco as well as in the South Bay! Go to the San Francisco Orthodox Church during one of their events or the churches in Moraga or Saratoga. That is how you meet everyone and get invited to Serb events outside of the church
If I recall there is one in Moraga and also there's a church in Oakland

I live im Serbia. I can confirm, my dream is to visit Japan. There is great hospitality between our nations, it's moving. Not to mention Japanese helping us with ambulance cars etc. Serbs returning the favour when there were big earthquakes (zunami) in Japan. ❤❤

My Cousin's wanted me to come over and visit them and stay with them. Sadly I haven't been over to visit. Love to all my Serbian Slav Families.
