  • In this video I get to chat with a researcher at the joint annual meeting of the entomological society of America, British Columbia and Canada in Vancouver, BC. This researcher shares with me their experience with discovering new species of insects. She shares tips on how to discover new species and the experiences she has had. At the end, she shares how she chose to name a termite she discovered using a surprising name!

Haha, this bug expert is also interested in playing video games with friends. I find that really humble for some reason... This person, who travels the world and researches bugs, also loves to just sit down and play Starcraft or Dungeons and Dragons with mates. That's wholesome to me.

Yes I was so excited when I heard her say she plays DND. I also play DND on the rare occasion I have time.

Insects are awesome. Might sound weird but ...to me....it always felt like some insects are basically born with what humans would consider super powers. Badass utility functions. Power, strength, speed, weapons attatched to their bodies. Wings for flight. Ways to trap enemies. Camouflage. I mean the list goes on.
Humans create. That's are badass super power. We create all kindsa stuff...but we do fantasize about super powers and even design super heroes based on having some of the bug powers lol. Of course, I'm referring to creations like spider man and the many other characters that share similar feats to insects.
I imagine most people here still now and then see cool looking insects and quickly try to catch them to admire them. I know I still do. Lol people look at me like...wth is this guy doing trying to catch a bug? I don't care though. I've loved doing it since I was a child. It's amazing to see someone reach that level of expertise in this field, and also be hella down to earth. Talking about friends and video games, and in general just looks excited to talk to another person who has the same passion.
    Great video man.

You mean you were looking at poop right? Haha just teasing you, somewhat. Sorry you couldn't make it. I was excited that she likes D&D. I also have 3-4 other entomologists interested in doing some D&D bug adventure, where characters races are different types of insects in a micro world. I will call you sometime to share some more details :)

His name is something I can not hold to myself!
      Proverbs 6:6-11
      6 Go to the ant, O sluggard;
consider her ways, and be wise.
      7 Without having any chief,
      officer, or ruler,
8 she prepares her bread in summer
and gathers her food in harvest.
9 How long will you lie there, O sluggard?
When will you arise from your sleep?
      10 A little sleep, a little slumber,
a little folding of the hands to rest,
11 and poverty will come upon you like a robber,
and want like an armed man.
