My Filipina wife and I live very comfortably in Minganilla, Cebu. Very big house, no need for a car as a taxi costs about 16 dollars round trip into the malls in cebu city. We go about 2 times a week. Cheaper than a car payment. Electricity is high as we use the a/ c 24/7. We are blessed to have $5,000 a month coming in. I could not live at this level of comfort in the US.
Wow my thoughts exactly, 5k in the US does not get you far. After taxes it's barely enough to get buy on I think. When I'm in the Philippines my quality of life is so much better also. Thanks for your comment

My plan is to return and retire in CEBU City Philippines 🇵🇭 ❤️. Eventually utilizing the American Military 🪖 Philippines sponsored SRRV program. You can cut back on the eating out, but that would be replaced with food purchases at the grocery store. You wouldn't save $450 that way. Entertainment would have to be over $100 a month for me. I couldn't just stay at home all the time.

In California if someone is living on 1500 per month they are struggling. In the Philippines you can live a fairly comfortable style of living. Thanks for the feedback

Yes I think the prices in the US are really too high. Everyone always wants to raise the minimum wage but that just gets passed on in higher prices to the consumer. It's a no win situation I think.

An influx of very old Expats are migrating to the Cebu, Philippines, can anyone explain to me why? Cebu is already over populated, and the interracial relationship from a Senior Citizen to a younger 20 year old or older young girl is overwhelming..Expense wise I think they are taking advantage of our cheaper cost of living. In the U.S.A. everything is expensive and a luxury, like food and entertainment. Apartments cost over $2000 a month including utilities, electricity, water, unless you are a low income you can qualify to live in the poor neighbor with high crime. If your income is below $2000, you will live in the streets. A car in the States is a necessity, unless you are willing to take public transportation.
Wow it sounds like you answered your own question. You are correct as far as the cost of living goes. If someone can have a better quality of life in Cebu or some less expensive place why would they not take advantage of that opportunity?. If someone offers you a free education are you going to turn it down?. In California you need a lot more than $2000 per month. So are you saying you prefer to stay in the US and live on the streets?? I'm not sure what your point is. I must say that I am totally ok with public transportation and as far as old expats go I think most are looking for a better quality of life. I was there last Oct. and looked at condos at IT park. 36 million php for a 2 BR. Had I seen your vids with Vanesa and had more time, I would have gone to see her. Cost of living in the Philippines is determined on where u want to live, pretty easy concept. You can live in a poor area with the locals, or go to the province where your money is huge. But, if u have medical problems or a older foreigner u might want to stay in the city. The province hospitals are horrible, and getting certain medications can be hard in the province. Plus, u do not know if u are getting fake drugs or not, i have had numerous friends who have lived in provinces and had medical problems and were scared to death in the province hospitals They all got stablized and returned to their country, and even if not old there are many foreigners crashing on motorbikes. Many do not have money saved also for emergencies, most of them disappear and move home. The provinces can also have a lot of mosquitos, noise from karokee and roosters,,,,etc etc,,,,
I won't live in the province for all of the reasons you mentioned. I also wont drive or ride a motor bike. For myself i'm no longer 20 years old and if you crash on a bike at an older age you are definitely going to feel the pain. I really appreciate your comment.

I think its always best to try staying in a country for a while before making permanent changes to your banking. Also will you be going to other countries . Always be sure to inform your bank and credit card companies where you will be traveling to . I think it's best to have a credit card that doesn't charge international fees. Just my thoughts. Here is what is difficult to understand. Given the minimum wage in in Cebut city at around P435 per day or about P10,500 per month on a 6 day work week. That is a monthly of USD $188 or therabouts. Assuming two working adults on full time jobs,...that is around USD $376 / month before any income/social secuity taxes (if they are assessed). So, that $555 rent per month would wipe out a local family's income immediately. Are you being charged foreigner prices?
Someone making minimum wage probably lives with roommates. I know a civil engineer in Makati making $350 a month and she shares her room with 6 other girls.
I don't think local people can afford this rent unless they have a high paying job. I don't think there are foreigner prices. There are less expensive places all over but the amenities are fewer and I enjoy the sea view and the beautiful pool. Thanks for watching

I would suggest staying in a hotel or two for a few days to see what area you prefer. Mactan Newtown, Ayala Mall area, I have stayed at Bamboo Bay previously and really liked the central location.
Hi thaidawg, This is Mactan Newtown. My unit was 38 sq meters. I paid approximately 30k per month on a 3 month lease. Most of the units do have a clothes washer but not dish washers.

I think you receive a tourist visa for the first 30 days. You should be able to extend that for another 30 days prior to the 30 day expiration. After that you can extend again etc. for up to 1 year. Maybe confirm this ahead of time and visit first to be sure you like it. Thanks for watching.
As an American you can actually live in the Philippines for up to 36 months before you would be required to leave the country for at least 24 to 48 hours. Re-enter the country and the 3 years start over again.

Health insurance varies a lot by your age and health condition. It's much more reasonable than in the US. If you go to the hospital for a minor problem the cost can be extremely low compared to the states. I had a consultation that lasted about 30 minutes and it cost only 600 pesos or about 12 US. There are public and private hospitals and the fees vary greatly. Make sure to always have cash or reserves as payment is usually required as services are rendered. Thanks so much
Most of the non serious office visits are really inexpensive however if you go to a US based hospital those costs can soar through the roof just like in the US. If you are living in the Philippines I think it's always good to have major medical insurance and have some cash reserves. There is no safety net if you run short on cash and you have a medical emergency. The amount that you will pay is based on your age and current health and can vary greatly.. Curious, Another blogger says that Even in the cleanest apartments or condos, because its a tropical place, large cockroaches are a problem and you have brownouts where your AC may be out from 6 am up to 6 pm and it is hard to find flushing toilets and toilet paper, also high-quality food or service is not easy to find and the Phillapino food is horrible, is any of this true in CEBU? and are the women hard to hook up with there?
I have not experienced any brownouts as I have stayed in Condos and they usually have back up generators. If you are in Cebu and close to shopping you will have no problem finding great food choices. American food, Korean food, Mexican food, Indian food , Japanese food . There are more food choices here than in a lot of the states and the prices are usually affordable. I have never had a problem finding flushing toilets or toilet paper. I think if you are living in the province you wont have flushing toilets or perhaps toilet paper. Cockroaches I have seen a few but no more than any other tropical place. As far as meeting women it's like a different world as they are very approachable. Thanks for watching
If you live in a $500 condo close to the mall then roaches and brown outs not too big of a problem. But food is bad even in expensive restaurants in the mall. To begin with its is minimum one hour waiting for your order, even McDonald usually 30-40min waiting if you order a burger. Korean restos not so bad as Koreans train staff. They also always "out of stock and not available" - most items on the menue so you can never plan what you eat you just get whatever they have that day. And don't expect someone to bring you drinks or refill to your table - you have get up and yell at waitresses to give you a drink. That's because in PH they serve drinks after you eat so even if you order drinks they wont bring them to you until one hour later after the food ready. And telling them I want coffee now wont work because their manager told them - drinks after the food. So you need to yell at the manager to get drinks. That's how stressful life is in Philippines.

Those numbers are correct. My expenses went up because I am in a higher rent area and I'm eating out more. It's easy to live on 1k per month if you keep your rent down , cook at home some or eat some street food etc.

Please next time you list some necessities like rent. Inform us of how large or small your condo is i.e # of bedrooms a balcony or not???... your visa extension??? it is really important to know for how long of a duration are/have you paid for???

As in many cities you have budget apartments and expensive apartments. 555 is very upscale. Average Filipino rent is 80-250 US dollars.

I would suggest staying in a hotel or two for a few days to see what area you prefer. Mactan Newtown, Ayala Mall area, I have stayed at Bamboo Bay previously and really liked the central location.

Hi thaidawg, This is Mactan Newtown. My unit was 38 sq meters. I paid approximately 30k per month on a 3 month lease. Most of the units do have a clothes washer but not dish washers.

I think you receive a tourist visa for the first 30 days. You should be able to extend that for another 30 days prior to the 30 day expiration. After that you can extend again etc. for up to 1 year. Maybe confirm this ahead of time and visit first to be sure you like it. Thanks for watching.
As an American you can actually live in the Philippines for up to 36 months before you would be required to leave the country for at least 24 to 48 hours. Re-enter the country and the 3 years start over again.

Health insurance varies a lot by your age and health condition. It's much more reasonable than in the US. If you go to the hospital for a minor problem the cost can be extremely low compared to the states. I had a consultation that lasted about 30 minutes and it cost only 600 pesos or about 12 US. There are public and private hospitals and the fees vary greatly. Make sure to always have cash or reserves as payment is usually required as services are rendered. Thanks so much

What is your opinion on self insure for health what would be a reasonable amount
Most of the non serious office visits are really inexpensive however if you go to a US based hospital those costs can soar through the roof just like in the US. If you are living in the Philippines I think it's always good to have major medical insurance and have some cash reserves. There is no safety net if you run short on cash and you have a medical emergency. The amount that you will pay is based on your age and current health and can vary greatly.. Curious, Another blogger says that Even in the cleanest apartments or condos, because its a tropical place, large cockroaches are a problem and you have brownouts where your AC may be out from 6 am up to 6 pm and it is hard to find flushing toilets and toilet paper, also high-quality food or service is not easy to find and the Phillapino food is horrible, is any of this true in CEBU? and are the women hard to hook up with there?
I have not experienced any brownouts as I have stayed in Condos and they usually have back up generators. If you are in Cebu and close to shopping you will have no problem finding great food choices. American food, Korean food, Mexican food, Indian food , Japanese food . There are more food choices here than in a lot of the states and the prices are usually affordable. I have never had a problem finding flushing toilets or toilet paper. I think if you are living in the province you wont have flushing toilets or perhaps toilet paper. Cockroaches I have seen a few but no more than any other tropical place. As far as meeting women it's like a different world as they are very approachable. Thanks for watching
If you live in a $500 condo close to the mall then roaches and brown outs not too big of a problem.
But food is bad even in expensive restaurants in the mall. To begin with its is minimum one hour waiting for your order, even McDonald usually 30-40min waiting if you order a burger.
Korean restos not so bad as Koreans train staff.
They also always "out of stock and not available" - most items on the menue so you can never plan what you eat you just get whatever they have that day. And don't expect someone to bring you drinks or refill to your table - you have get up and yell at waitresses to give you a drink. That's because in PH they serve drinks after you eat so even if you order drinks they wont bring them to you until one hour later after the food ready. And telling them I want coffee now wont work because their manager told them - drinks after the food. So you need to yell at the manager to get drinks.
That's how stressful life is in Philippines.

Those numbers are correct. My expenses went up because I am in a higher rent area and I'm eating out more. It's easy to live on 1k per month if you keep your rent down , cook at home some or eat some street food etc.

I really appreciate the feedback. My unit is a studio with an ocean view 38 Sq Meters. Small ocean view balcony. At first you automatically have 30 days. Next you pay for a 30 day extension. After that you may ask for a longer extension. I am going to make another video with the exact details on the visa choices. It also depends on the country you are coming from. Thanks for the comment
