I happy to have refound you Diane. I’m. Few years ahead of you but we are kind of in the same stage of life. I am going to keep declutterring with you. People and time with people over managing stuff
Thank you Diane, I will be looking at our crockery today - there’s a lot that we don’t use but we don’t notice it anymore, and we stop ‘seeing’ it as its always been there. Have a great day x 🌸
A good tip that I heard once re. serving pieces. Don't say to yourself, could I use it? Say, if I didn't have this, what would I use instead? And often a substitute will immediately pop into your head, and you can let go of the duplicate item with confidence.
Diane you never cease to amaze me that after all this time you still find items to declutter. I managed to declutter several plates, a bowl and a mug, also a dress never worn and a pair of sneakers badly worn. I still have to go through serving dishes. I keep them in case we have company but over the years the family and friends are either no longer with us or have moved away. Also, I find it takes too much effort preparing for company but I guess I keep the dishes for my "fantasy life".
Found you again Diane! I had watched you years ago and lost you in the confusion of life. I’m 67 and we have a small condo that we have been in for 3 years after owing a large home. The clutter is back😂. You have inspired me this week and I’ve been cleaning like a crazy bunny. I love your accent. Brings back memories of my Grandfather’s brogue. My Mom was born in Glasgow in 1920. She came as a little girl and later married an Italian. That’s a combo! Thank you for your inspiration! I enjoy watching you declutter as you prepare for your downsizing. Diane From : New England
I loved your comment about Erika! A friend once let me know that they had decided not to keep a plant pot i gifted them. I said, 'i bought it because i liked it so id be happy if you gifted it back to me' and she did! We were both satisfied!
One use i have made of small bowls is to fill them with cookies, nuts, candies, soaps or such, then wrap in clear cellophane and tie with a ribbon. They are perfect little gifts.
Good morning Diane, thanks again for your inspiration!! I've been through my kitchen cupboards, well, 1 more to go today once my errands are run. Looking at your video, I laugh as we have very similar items! I sent electrical items like the waffle maker and toasted sandwich maker etc etc to one of our many charity shops in town & they were very grateful. And, wow, the empty basket 🧺 too!! This week is my bathroom and laundry room, but just a sort out & 15 min cleans in those, as I tend to keep stocks of cleaning items which will be used as time goes on. Some soaps were from Mums, but still good enough to use and I think fondly of Mum when I use them, and say a little thank you to her, as I know she'd be pleased I got some use out of them and they didn't go to waste. Right, onwards and forwards, hope everyone has a great week, the weather is picking up a bit so I'd better go do the lol!! Bye for now!! 😊
Rah rah rah! Great reminder about the resting place for your decluttered items. DH has lost a lot of weight recently and he declutter a lot of expensive nice work clothes that was in perfect shape. I was trying desperately to find someone we knew to take them or possibly sell them - we never sold our items before tho so I was checking my options but DH took them straight to the charity shop the next day after he decluttered and I was feeling a bit sad but - you are right. It doesn’t matter. ❤ can’t wait for the summit 🥳
I have a set of matching tea cups and saucers that I have had since 1996? I have never used them but I keep holding onto them “in case” of company so I can serve coffee or tea in nice cups. Well, when company asks for coffee, I just pull out any one of our mismatched mugs that we use on a daily basis. It’s time I let go of the things taking up space in my cupboards that I never use.
I love how you cheer each time you decide to let something go. It just adds an extra bit of positivity to decluttering! You are inspirational Diane. Ra Ra Ra 🎉
I’ve never had a dishwasher until this year and I have discovered dishwashers ruin vintage cookware. Quite a bit of my kitchenware was hand me downs from my childhood (70s) - the dishwasher has dulled plastic and removed markings from measuring jugs. Such a pity because the old stuff is so sturdy compared to modern kitchenware.
Thank you Diane your videos are a blessing..because of you i now only have 5 frying pans.i used to have 14😮.my obsession😅. Theres only 3 of us in the house.
I have my load of laundry going (I really don't do one every day, we just don't need to!) and my Roomba just finished vacuuming the bedroom. I did want to say that you always look so elegant ❤ I'm in a t-shirt phase of life but really need a few nice tops. I just decluttered all the ones I had been hanging on to because they actually don't suit me (wrong neckline etc). Thank you for all your inspiration, I'm looking forward to your GOHQ presentation. Brilliant advice again, Diane. My husband and I both use one Earl Grey teabag ... he likes his tea weak, and I like mine a bit stronger, so we both win! from Darlene in NZ
BRILLIANT! You always inspire me. And now I am starting to also feel affirmed for the decluttering I have already done. Today I am feeling very proud that I only have two sets of dishes: One set is only for outside. The other set is Mom's good China; and I am very proud to see some of the silver decoration wearing off and I have earned my first chip. Woo-hoo! It feels great. Thanks for getting me here. This week I am decluttering boots and shoes. I recently bought a more comfortable pair of winter boots with more room for warmer socks. That will be replacing several previous attempts at almost comfortable boots. No more self torture for me. 🥳❤️ Also decluttering summer shoes that did not get worn and anything else that is not 100% comfortable. Tip for moving things along. If I think someone else might be interested in something, I text a picture to them, saying when items are being dropped at the charity shop but I will set aside and deliver items to them. That way they know how soon they need to respond. This helps me keep things moving out the door. I also have better success if I immediately put things in my car so that I can empty the car next time I am near a charity shop. Good luck on your presentation, Diane. You are always entertaining and encouraging. ❤️ RAH, RAH, RAH!
You have inspired me to look more closely at what dishes I have and see what can go. It’s a great idea 😊. I gave away one of those old fashioned scales too. It took up so much space.. Dear Diane, I worked along side you in the kitchen and was able to get so much done. Our kitchen is already really minimal, but somehow a few things crept back in. Hi, Diane, congratulations for your decisions about letting (nice) things go… especially gifts: these are more difficult for me. Somebody has thought about giving me something nice and useful, and if I give it away it’s like I’m saying: it was the wrong gift… have to think about that. No more waffles 🧇, haha! Recently I fought with a waffle dough which didn’t work well and I thought, it was a waste of time, I could have made a cake in the same time… Love, Monika❣
Oh, I love this concept of "not getting rid of Erika, but only of her present"😂 I have recently given away one of my China tea sets to my friends with 2 kids as they had broken nearly all the cups from the set they had owned. Fun for them, space for me)) Tks for inspiration, dear Diane❤
Thank you, Diane!❤❤❤ I just returned from an appointment, so I watched as I enjoyed my coffee. During our last bout of illness, I decided I no longer need to keep mugs and dishes that don’t go in the dishwasher, so those are gone. Hi Diane...I really enjoy your videos and what a great positive start to a new week! As I was watching I think I caught a glimpse of an electric carving knife...it looked like a moulinex brand....I couldn't believe it...we got one as a wedding present 38 years ago and reluctantly had to finally get rid of it about 3 years ago. We tried everywhere to get the same one but we were told it's not possible to get that make anymore. We ended up getting a different brand but unfortunately not as gud ☹️
Decluttering in the kitchen along with you, Diane 🙂 I like working in the same area as you! There is almost nothing to declutter there, but it is still good to go through and be sure; sure enough, I did find just a few more items to get out of there--yay! I always get a thrill to let go of something else. Thanks for keeping us on track, Diane. I look forward to seeing you at the HQ summit tomorrow 💙
Just decluttered the cupboard under my boiler. Found 14 (I kid you not) of those Ikea lint roller refills. I think I just got in the habit of sticking one in the basket whenever I visited!
I'm terrible for keeping serving dishes that I don't really use just because they are vintage and I like them. I should come up with an alternative use for them.
Having followed Diane for years, this morning I broke the golden rule of wearing indoor shoes while moving a single bed and was bare footed . So the inevitable happened,I trapped my big toe under the bed and have cracked the nail which will take months to grow out and it hurts a lot too !!!!! Painful reminder to wear lace up shoes 🤦🏻♀️
Hi Diane. You have beautiful dishes in your cabinet in the dining room. Why don’t you put half of them in your kitchen, to replace the blues and whites that you kept, and use them everyday? About 10 years ago I decided to use my best dishes, nicest cutlery, and crystal glasses on a daily basis. They bring me joy, and it seemed a shame to have been using them on special occasions only. Everyday should be a special occasion!

You are so welcome, Mandy - I got the idea a few years back when we were at our summerhouse in Sweden and I only had a small bowl, ha ha!

I'm terrible for keeping serving dishes that I don't really use just because they are vintage and I like them. I should come up with an alternative use for them.
I ❤❤❤ the pictures 📸 from back in the day!
Oh no, so sorry to hear that, Angela - sending hugs!
@@DianeinDenmark thank you ❤️
