The Shell Horn in Fates can be equipped and used by any playable character, so Marth, Ike, Robin, and Lucina are safe. That leaves Roy, Chrom, and Byleth. The Sea Tambourine is a inheritable colorless tome weapon which can be inherited by Byleth: Sublime Light, so Byleth is safe. The Handbell is an axe weapon that can be inherited by axe-wielding variants of Chrom and Roy.
@@SentaiYamaneko Choir practice is a little more nebulous, since some characters even when invited are implied to not sing. For example, Bernadetta's line is "They won't notice if one person doesn't sing, right?". Byleth, being a mostly silent protagonist, isn't vocal during the practice, though I'm willing to assume that they are singing and it's just not shown for convenience's sake. That was a long way to wrap around to agreeing with you, I'm very pedantic. @andrewli6606 Remember that there's a difference between playing an instrument and wielding one as a weapon, that's why Bayonetta didn't count. The Sea Tambourine most likely does count since the animation does have the character shake it like one would, but as for the Handbell... maybe? I mean, hitting someone in the face with a bell might still count as playing that instrument :v
Technically, there is an instance where Terry has played the drums. Back during the 90's, SNK had their own theme park called NeoGeo world for a brief time. At said park, there was an animatronic band of SNK characters, with Terry being the group's drummer. There is official artwork of this band too, so it could maybe count.
Every time I start a new Anna video, I think that the dog pics are a graphic that she's going to talk about. It always takes me a sec to remember that those are real pictures hanging on her wall.
Olimar is green for multiple reasons 1) Merriam Webster classifies the whistle as an instrument, and if you're going to refer to them for definitions and count hand bells and Viking horn as instruments, you should include the whistle 2) In Pikmin 1 and 2, Olimar can command the Pikmin around him using music, its not clear what he's playing to produce it but its definitely not his voice 3) In Pikmin 4, Olimar can use the charging horn and line-up trumpet the Pikmin themselves can be marked as singing, they've been doing so since Pikmin 2 and can synchronise and harmonise with each other as a choir EDIT: forgot to mention that Alph occasionally sings the Koppaite anthem with his partners in Pikmin 3 if they're all together without any Pikmin
Small corrections on terry: in official art he is seen playing the drums due to the Band of fighters artwork. Also Terry is the only character to actually play music irl via the Neo Geo animatronics from the 90’s. Technically he’s in his own tier but I wanted to share that yes, Terry has played an instrument
In the heart of specificity, I think looking at the Links as they are represented would be best. Young Link (specifically OoT) obviously has played 2 different ocarinas Link (specifically BotW) didn't play anything in the actual game, BUT in the official symphony concert artwork he is seen playing Kass' accordion. Toon Link (specifically WW) did not play an instrument. The actual Wind Waker is a baton, not an instrument.
Toon Link can also be the Link from Spirit Tracks, as Alphonse takes over the train if Toon Link is fighting (Alphonse: "leave it to me!"), and that Link plays the Spirit Flute/Spirit Pipes.
@@derektom14 fair, but that can just be chocked up to not wanting the same character on screen for the entire match. This specific Toon Link we play as is Wind Waker due to the equipment he uses and the Wind Waker from his taunt. Same reason Young Link is specifically from OoT and not Majora's Mask.
@TheCayDawg young link from oot is link from mm. In the case of toon link, yeah, we play as wws link due to the batons in the taunt, but we're really treated as link from st by alfonzo, so... works either way, really.
@@Andreecals true but as represented in Smash, the Young Link that's playable uses the Ocarina of Time equipment. There is no Majora's Mask connection with him. As for Toon, it's just because he shares the same base design. They are not the same guy. Like I wouldn't say regular Link is also from Tears of the Kingdom because he's clearly representing Breath of the Wild, even though it is the same dude eventually.
Don't know if it counts because it's not exactly canon, but at the end of Poison's ending in Ultra Street Fighter 4, Ryu and Ken play instruments in her band
objection! I just watched the cutscene and while yes Ryu and Ken are part of Poison's band they arent shown playing anything. Maybe you mistook Guy and Cody as them?
2:25 King K Rool was a playable character in Donkey Kong Barrel Blast, a 2007 racing game for the Wii which saw the characters propel themselves forward via repearedly hitting rocket-powered bongos. I'd say that counts.
There's even easier evidence for Lucas. All characters in Mother 3 have a unique musical instrument sound effect when they attack enemies. Lucas plays the steel guitar!
Sonic did play the Violin. He actually played alongside his sister, who played the piano. They were both going to play at a concert together, but the stress got to Sonic and he ended up throwing his violin down the stairs. That started a heated argument between the two of them that ended in Sonic accidentally pushing his sister down the stairs.
Another thing about Ness, while I’m not sure if it counts for this video, is that the official lyrics to Smiles and Tears, EarthBound’s end credits music, are implied to be from Ness’s perspective, and it mentions Ness having a guitar pick, implying that Ness does know to play guitar. Again, not sure if that counts for anything, just thought it was worth bringing up.
More evidence to help support is that Ness's favorite thing is "Rockin'". Of course he could just rock out with a Walkman or something but he could possibly be rockin' out on a guitar. Or maybe "Rockin" doesn't have any correlation with music.
While that is noteworthy, the name “Rockin” was only added in the English localization. In Japanese it’s called “Kiai” I believe, which is more so translates to “Fighting Spirit”
A Goombana day is a good day. A couple corrections on the ones i know of; Terry actually depicted playing the drums in a King of Fighters official artwork alongside other KoF characters, one being Iori Yagami who canonically is part of a jazz band despite... Everything about him. The MegaMan you found playing the guitar isn't the Megaman in smash bros. That's Megaman X, while inspired by the og blue bomber, is a totally different robot who's adventures take place around 100 years later than Classic Megaman (the one playable in smash). That being said, there indeed is also artwork of this Megaman playing the keyboard with his brother Protoman on guitar. Would be weird as hell if he never was depicted playing considering the series is mostly built on musical puns in the first place lol. For example, Megaman's real name is Rock (series is called Rockman in Japan). His sister is named Roll, aforementioned brother named Blues, etc etc
Howdy howdy! Meta Knight is strongly implied to be whistling My Friend and the Setting Sun off-screen just before you fight him in Star Allies. The track name in the OST is "A Solitary Resounding Whistle". Love the 30th Anniversary shout-out, though! Great video!
9:10 Funny enough, not only does Min Min play an instrument, everyone in Arms can, in game no less! On Min Min’s home stage, Ramen Bowl, there’s a big gong in the background of the stage. And you can hit it with any stray punch, ringing the gong. Percussion instruments count!
You got Pac-Man wrong. In the spin-off game for the Wii, “Pac-Man Party”, there is a mini game where Pac-Man uses a flute to charm a snake in a race. Pac-Man plays the flute. Olimar is also wrong because of his Swarm/Lineup horn, which does, in fact, play a jingle as it’s used.
9:42 i eould argue that they have played them and the carrying the instruments is when it is in the inventory but does get used when "put in" the pouch as they also have food that can go in there some of which pyra cooks up also shulk is a blade in xc2 everything above can count for shulk too
If official art counts, the Terry should have counted as playing an instrument. SNK has made their own animatronic band, the Band of Fighters, which had Terry on drums.
Anyone mentioning Tomodachi Life makes me super happy. I thought you were just gonna bring up Wii Music or somethin but you went the fun route and that makes me happy!
Pyra and Mythra might not play an instrument, but Future Redeemed has a very cute scene that can appear at campsites after finishing a certain quest of their sibling tutoring their daughter how to play the lute. Even before this though, said daughter's staff is also a cello (that the English translation calls a "kithara" for the sake of Greek), which she smashes against enemies heads as well as playing a short tune for some of her attacks. If Xenoblade 3's protagonists were in Smash, their position would be very simple: Xenoblade 3 is the story of how two flautists fell in love, and toppled a shadow government along the way. ("flautist" being a person who plays the flute; much of the soundtrack is played diagetically by them and other people who also play the flute. Probably the coolest thing is that out-of-universe, the songs were played on working replicas of their flutes in-game. One character even seems to play their own boss theme. _Hard rock with a _*_flute.)_*
8:55 I’d argue against Joker, P5D is actually a dream, therefore joker is DREAMING about playing the guitar, which you can do wether you know how to actually play a guitar or not.
4:19 I actually had the thought on if singing a song meant to take your opening out with you would be considered good at singing or bad at singing with regards to the intent of Perish Song. In one way you achieve your goal so you can say it's good, but it's also questionable if the song its self is actually good.
Slight add on: In Game and Watch gallery 2, when you go to the music settings, you can select specific songs to listen to. When you do select a song, you will find Peach playing the piano, Luigi playing the trumpet, and Toad playing the drums.
1:47 Bowser only counts if you include the accordion in NES Tetris, similarly to Samus and Pit, since Steal The Beat is not one of the 10 Bowser Minigames in MP10 where he’s actually playable. And even then, NES Tetris isn’t really that tied to the canon of Mario, Metroid, or Kid Icarus. I suppose playing an instrument in a game outside their home franchise would be on par with the Plays In Official Art tier. 10:19 Forgetting that Wii Music released 4.5 years prior.
olimar's whistle should def count tho right? it's a signal whistle, you even called out signal instruments at 5:19. It's a fab video either way, keep up the great work
Other people have definitely mentioned this but I wanna call attention to Terry SNK had these freaky animatronics of some of their characters playing instruments together called the Band of Fighters, with Terry as the drummer. This lineup also got official artwork, and was also referenced in the debatably canon SNK Heroines, where in one of the endings (if memory serves, it’s Athena’s given that she’s the vocalist) featuring the same lineup So he definitely counts to a degree, but I can never tell for the life of me if SNK Heroines is canon, let alone the endings, so probably just official artwork for him. Honorable mention for playing an instrument in real life maybe? And yes buying the Isabelle card was totally worth it :D
Snk heroines is all but officially canon according to the devs. And it’s actually Shermie’s ending he’s in! (Shermie being in another band that worships Orochi only to find out Orochi is a fan of Athena)
Probably doesn't count, but Snake and Ryu are both in Fortnite and can play instruments with certain emotes in the game and in Fortnite Festival (The Rock Band game mode).
The mega man you showed is actually not the one on the roster, his name is X and is a different character. I found an instance of mega man using sound waves if he copies wave man's attacks if you would count that
Pac-Man should play the triangle cuz it’s simple and geometric, King K Rool should def pick up a bass (he seems like he would be a killer bassist), and R.O.B. I see as a DJ/Producer for sure lol love the fun videos like this.
05:24 for Lucas it would make more sense to take his attacks noises because every character in Earthbound 2 has an instrument sound in their attacks like for example Duster got the bass and Kumatora the electric guitar
Very fun video! Most of the options made sense (except Mega Man because the Mega Man we see in Smash and Mega Man X are different characters but people have already proven why he still fits in other comments) but I would like to make an argument for Pyra and Mythra (mainly because Xenoblade 2 is my favorite rpg of all time) When a driver or blade has an instrument as their favorite, there'll be a reaction line from them, with some of them actually implying playing the instrument themselves. I would say this is enough to make the argument that the pouch items are being played. Besides, just having the item stay in the pouch without being touched doesn't really make sense from a logistical standpoint. Plus, I had to dust off my old copy of Xenoblade 2 to prove this, so can i at least have that? xP

"Are they building skate ramp out here???"
I'm dead 😂
Every time I start a new Anna video, I think that the dog pics are a graphic that she's going to talk about. It always takes me a sec to remember that those are real pictures hanging on her wall.
They do seem to stand out from the background in ways her other decorations don't.
These concepts are so random sometimes I love it
Olimar is green for multiple reasons
1) Merriam Webster classifies the whistle as an instrument, and if you're going to refer to them for definitions and count hand bells and Viking horn as instruments, you should include the whistle
2) In Pikmin 1 and 2, Olimar can command the Pikmin around him using music, its not clear what he's playing to produce it but its definitely not his voice
3) In Pikmin 4, Olimar can use the charging horn and line-up trumpet
the Pikmin themselves can be marked as singing, they've been doing so since Pikmin 2 and can synchronise and harmonise with each other as a choir
EDIT: forgot to mention that Alph occasionally sings the Koppaite anthem with his partners in Pikmin 3 if they're all together without any Pikmin
9:24 - Ah, because something further south catches your eye?
In the heart of specificity, I think looking at the Links as they are represented would be best.
Young Link (specifically OoT) obviously has played 2 different ocarinas
Link (specifically BotW) didn't play anything in the actual game, BUT in the official symphony concert artwork he is seen playing Kass' accordion.
@@TheCayDawgYoung link can use a bow like he can in MM, but he can't in OoT
Don't know if it counts because it's not exactly canon, but at the end of Poison's ending in Ultra Street Fighter 4, Ryu and Ken play instruments in her band
objection! I just watched the cutscene and while yes Ryu and Ken are part of Poison's band they arent shown playing anything. Maybe you mistook Guy and Cody as them?
@@petrol2161 probably haha i actually haven't seen the cutscene in a while, was just going off memory. Thanks for the fact check
2:25 King K Rool was a playable character in Donkey Kong Barrel Blast, a 2007 racing game for the Wii which saw the characters propel themselves forward via repearedly hitting rocket-powered bongos. I'd say that counts.
3:54 That alliteration absolutely astounded the audience, and added almost almighty astonishment to an already amazing video!
The Isabelle Amiibo Card was worth it 👍
Though it would be a lot more worth it with an actual Amiibo. Then you get a cute toy of best character.
Probably worth mentioning that in ARMS, there’s a gong on the Ramen Bowl stage that every fighter can hit to make a sound. Anyway great video :)
My thoughts and prayers to you and your struggle with ever-noisy kids nearby.
I love these types of videos! Can you please do "Which Smash Bros Characters Can Canonically Cook?" next?

There's even easier evidence for Lucas. All characters in Mother 3 have a unique musical instrument sound effect when they attack enemies. Lucas plays the steel guitar!
Sonic did play the Violin. He actually played alongside his sister, who played the piano. They were both going to play at a concert together, but the stress got to Sonic and he ended up throwing his violin down the stairs. That started a heated argument between the two of them that ended in Sonic accidentally pushing his sister down the stairs.
When did this happen
@@xxcanthinkofanamexx1688 In the visual novel. You only get that ending if you beat Knuckles' high score on the minigame before he destroys it
Another thing about Ness, while I’m not sure if it counts for this video, is that the official lyrics to Smiles and Tears, EarthBound’s end credits music, are implied to be from Ness’s perspective, and it mentions Ness having a guitar pick, implying that Ness does know to play guitar.
A couple corrections on the ones i know of;
Terry actually depicted playing the drums in a King of Fighters official artwork alongside other KoF characters, one being Iori Yagami who canonically is part of a jazz band despite...
You should do who has canonically cooked
When they got to finish their game goals, they were all cooking
I pray to the Architect that she discover's Mythra's cooking
Howdy howdy! Meta Knight is strongly implied to be whistling My Friend and the Setting Sun off-screen just before you fight him in Star Allies. The track name in the OST is "A Solitary Resounding Whistle". Love the 30th Anniversary shout-out, though! Great video!
Terry not playing an instrument feels wrong. I must investigate this matter further.
He drums in official artwork, so move him into category 2.
9:10
Funny enough, not only does Min Min play an instrument, everyone in Arms can, in game no less!
9:42 i eould argue that they have played them and the carrying the instruments is when it is in the inventory but does get used when "put in" the pouch as they also have food that can go in there some of which pyra cooks up also shulk is a blade in xc2 everything above can count for shulk too
There is a literal game called Wii Music, where you play as Mii's.
Those noises they made while singing were legendary 🤣
"Sephiroth is obsessed with being extra." Lol
"Are they building a skate ramp out there?!?" 😂😂😂
If official art counts, the Terry should have counted as playing an instrument. SNK has made their own animatronic band, the Band of Fighters, which had Terry on drums.
There is also an entire game about Miis playing a whole smorgasbord of instruments
10:24 "Is there anything Tomodachii Life can't do?" it can't let you be gay :(
You could just make them the opposite gender and make them look like the correct ones
Hard rock with a flute is AMAZING

It slipped my mind that A is technically Glimmer's "aunt". That whole family is complex.
8:55 I’d argue against Joker, P5D is actually a dream, therefore joker is DREAMING about playing the guitar, which you can do wether you know how to actually play a guitar or not.
That's some pretty sweet alliteration 😙👌
Also loved the callback to the R.O.B. controversy
"Is there anything Tomodachi Life can't do?"

Greninja is also in the only singing category. It learns round as Frogadier if I remember correctly
9:22 regarding Steve as well, in minecraft theres also goat horns that can be played in the games too
I loved this. What a great question and I bet the research for it was a lot! Thanks for all the hard work AV. Oh no the shrieking! Lol
4:19 I actually had the thought on if singing a song meant to take your opening out with you would be considered good at singing or bad at singing with regards to the intent of Perish Song. In one way you achieve your goal so you can say it's good, but it's also questionable if the song its self is actually good.
The Horn in Fire Emblem Heroes is a weapon that can only be used by The Gatekeeper. It can't be used by any characters in Smash.
Slight add on: In Game and Watch gallery 2, when you go to the music settings, you can select specific songs to listen to. When you do select a song, you will find Peach playing the piano, Luigi playing the trumpet, and Toad playing the drums.
I immediately thought of this too! 🥰
In most pikmin games there are a collection of treasures that are instruments and in pikmin 4 olimar plays a trumpet to line pikmin up!
It's a fab video either way, keep up the great work
Other people have definitely mentioned this but I wanna call attention to Terry
SNK had these freaky animatronics of some of their characters playing instruments together called the Band of Fighters, with Terry as the drummer. This lineup also got official artwork, and was also referenced in the debatably canon SNK Heroines, where in one of the endings (if memory serves, it’s Athena’s given that she’s the vocalist) featuring the same lineup
So he definitely counts to a degree, but I can never tell for the life of me if SNK Heroines is canon, let alone the endings, so probably just official artwork for him. Honorable mention for playing an instrument in real life maybe?
And yes buying the Isabelle card was totally worth it :D
Snk heroines is all but officially canon according to the devs. And it’s actually Shermie’s ending he’s in! (Shermie being in another band that worships Orochi only to find out Orochi is a fan of Athena)
as a Pirannha Plant main I am glad you made this video after Wonder come out
Pit also sings in the beginning of Chapter 13 of Kid Icarus Uprising (and it's adorable). Addition fun fact: his VA can play the guitar.
I rewatched the section at 4:56 five times 😂
Terrific editing
Probably doesn't count, but Snake and Ryu are both in Fortnite and can play instruments with certain emotes in the game and in Fortnite Festival (The Rock Band game mode).

The mega man you showed is actually not the one on the roster, his name is X and is a different character. I found an instance of mega man using sound waves if he copies wave man's attacks if you would count that
I think someone from else pointed to MegaMan playing guitar on one of the Anniversary soundtrack covers so assuming thats true hes covered anyway.
Rock plays electric guitar on the MM10 IST cover, so it holds up regardless
3:43 There was also a whole band of Kirbys playing in the Sound Menu of Kirby Mass Attack.😉🎸🥁
I don't think those kids are playing

Pac-Man should play the triangle cuz it’s simple and geometric, King K Rool should def pick up a bass (he seems like he would be a killer bassist), and R.O.B. I see as a DJ/Producer for sure lol love the fun videos like this.
5:43 coulda sworn Terry played the harmonica at one point but that mightve been in one of the anime adaptations

05:24 for Lucas it would make more sense to take his attacks noises because every character in Earthbound 2 has an instrument sound in their attacks like for example Duster got the bass and Kumatora the electric guitar
Very fun video! Most of the options made sense (except Mega Man because the Mega Man we see in Smash and Mega Man X are different characters but people have already proven why he still fits in other comments) but I would like to make an argument for Pyra and Mythra (mainly because Xenoblade 2 is my favorite rpg of all time)
When a driver or blade has an instrument as their favorite, there'll be a reaction line from them, with some of them actually implying playing the instrument themselves. I would say this is enough to make the argument that the pouch items are being played. Besides, just having the item stay in the pouch without being touched doesn't really make sense from a logistical standpoint.
Plus, I had to dust off my old copy of Xenoblade 2 to prove this, so can i at least have that? xP
