It took me 6 hours, but I finally got it. My first proper game was supposed to be just the first scenario, but as I stood there looking at the remains of my rival tribes I could only mutter these words: "This isn't over!" Now I'm hard at war against the spanish. This is my first real solitaire game and I am so hooked. I stumbled upon your video by chance, and I blame you for luring me into this dark void where all I can think about is my tabletop wargame.

So far I have only managed to set up and play the tutorial scenario and although familiar to Navajo Wars I felt slightly overwhelmed. Your review motivated me to give it another try.
this looks like an interesting game.. I was friends with Jerry Parker who was the great grand son or great great of Quanah Parker. so I will definitely be getting this game to see if I can build the Comanche Nation like they did in history.

If my rules are not too long, I colour photocopy them, put the original aside and trash/play the copy. My rules always end up with coffee stains, handwritten notes, pizza stains, etc.
I wasn't able to get my hands on Navajo Wars and still feel bad about it. I feel worse knowing that it's not quite there in P500. After watching your review I became even more eager to find a copy of this, and finally I have! Thanks Grant for your very thorough review.

Joel Toppen has done us a great service injecting this particular perspective on history into a normally quite Eurocentric hobby. I love the aesthetic of both of his games. It creates a great atmosphere during extended play.
At first, I would say it is a 7 complexity until you get the hang of the flowchart and the process. After that it becomes a 5. The player aids are really well done and it makes perfect intuitive sense once you get the jist of the game. I will say that the strategy side of it is much tougher. It took me three plays to even come close to winning. I won on my third try and since have played the longer game twice and lost both times. It is a really great game though that is very enjoyable even in defeat. Good luck.
"rancheria"?!?!?! are you kidding me?? How about Quahadi, Kotseteka, Yamparika, Peneteka etc....it's like the designer has abstracted the Comanche into oblivion great review game seems to HEAVY on mechanics and low on flow or feel?
oh wow, i wish i read this before finishing off my video on this game. This is exactly the "Indigenous eyes and ears" i'd like to see on this game (even if you're not Indigenous yourself, this is the insight that could "de-abstract" some of the concepts). "Rancheria" seems like a very colonial-settler concept or vernacular, is it? I agree that Indigenous words could be used more in the game itself.

The rules aren't really very long. The guides are great but I don't think you couldn't play the game without them.
