Alex, one thing you might try on one bait like that is to put like a dime size chartreuse spot on the underneath between the line tie and front hook. Sometimes that makes them target the front of the bait.
Shade lines are excellent ambush points for fall bass and yes more sun helps. Seems to get more bites when the lures mimic natural forage. I think Bethany was the day 2 good luck charm.

I definitely agree with your money badger statement started out the morning with a chartreuse type color ( can’t remember the color name) had no luck. I changed to the red and first cast 3 lbs. Then 5 cast later a 2 1/2. Also caught some on a dark blue buzz bait.

I LOVE the overhanging foliage along the bank. We have a couple thousand lakes here and that’s hard to find. It creates that whole undercut bank condition, perfect shade line and awesome hangout.

Choppo got my upgrades this weekend. The blowups were awesome
One thing I've noticed is that my hook up ratio is way down for these plopper style baits compared to other top waters. I've tried changing color, size, retrieve speed, etc and still get tons of blow ups that miss the hooks. Seems like even most of the fish I do catch have to come back a second or third time before getting hooked. I get a much better hook up ratio with a buzzbait that only has a single hook over a plopper with two trebles, which just doesn't make sense to me....

In Randy's defense, I've seen ponds and lakes myself where the largemouth seem to have wised up to these things. Smallies just don't care though 😂
They still work on the Tennessee river system. Watts bar, Chickamauga, pickwick, guntersville and on north as well Douglas, Cherokee all of em'.
Randy did not say they do not work, he said they are not as effective as they used to be
