The Loch Ness MONSTER Movie From 1996 That You’ve Probably Never Seen

  • Loch Ness is a 1996 family monster movie directed by John Henderson. It used early CGI and Jim Henson’s animatronics right after Jurassic Park with a hybrid Plesiosaur / Elasmosaurus creature in Scotland. This is a movie about belief that I think a lot of fans of 90’s special effects and dinosaur stuff will enjoy and I was surprised by how well it holds up!

The Loch Ness monster is one of those monsters/creatures/myths I honestly forget about more than I'd like.
The creature just doesn't come up much due to being Scottish, location specific, aquatic and the fact that Bigfoot is #1 on the cryptid list. All that said, I'd love to see something that puts Nessie in my mind with a solid stamp and I highly appreciate this recommendation, Klayton. Definitely going on my watch list, have a good weekend, brother.

I've seen this in the theatre by happy accident. We were there to watch _Independence Day_ and our younger siblings and our mom were to watch _Loch Ness._ But there were technical difficulties. The projector broke down and _Independence Day_ couldn't be shown. So since we couldn't drive home on our own, instead of a refund we swapped for tickets to _Loch Ness._ We've missed the first few minutes. But we just didn't have anything else to do than go watch that film that's already started. I don't remember it in much detail, but it was good.

I highly recommend the novel The Loch by Steve Alten. Its a character drama wrapped in a creature feature. It's a good sci-fi/thriller/horror/drama. It sort of flips the Loch Ness Horror subgenre on its head in a way I don't want to spoil.

Lived in Scotland about 25 miles from Loch Ness and I remember this being released.
Made a bit of an impact on the first weekend, but then dropped off really quickly and became a bit of a sore point amongst the Scottish populous, when everyone realised most of the movie wasn't filmed in Loch Ness, in fact a lot of it was filmed in England, and that there's absolutely no Scottish actors in the movie at all. The cast is primarily English and American, 1 Welsh actor, and no Scots whatsoever apart from the little girl as they couldn't find an actress of that age who could fake a Scottish accent.

Although I am of the perfect age to have seen this movie AT the right age, I never saw it. A couple of other content creators I follow have covered this and it does look enjoyable. Although not taking itself too seriously as a movie, I think the people who made it were passionate about what they were making. Some bits of dialogue may also seem cheesy but when it's delivered with heart, it just connects with the viewer.

First, for looking at this movie you have earned a subscriber
Second, I'm so glad that you revisited this. This movie remains a personal favorite of mine and there are many things that I enjoy about it.
One of the most prominent scenes was with Ian Holms character when he talks with Ted danson . He describes how dansons "science" didn't solve the mystery of the loch, but rather a 9 year old girl and how for all it's innovations, science has also given it's worst like acid rain, pollution and climate change. That the creatures that survived for 15,000 years were doing fine without us and don't need our help. In short, a child is better at keeping the secret than a power hungry adult.
Even in my 30s, this scene (this entire movie) still remains strong in my memory and still holds a powerful lesson.

Australian here: Was shown the movie in primary school on a VHS, watched it on TV and pretty sure it was released in theaters too.

I loved this movie!! No sir! This one didn't get past me at all. I love the idea they presented involving the how the creature's vocals sounded. The sound we all assume it gives off compared to the actual sound the little girl imitates

Funny you mention The Lost World because Incident At Loch Ness had Jeff Goldblum in a small role as a party guest.

I remember seeing a trailer for a movie when I was a kid where a little girl says: "The Monster he's real!" When I saw the thumbnail for this film, I thought maybe this was it, but no confirmation in the review. But this does look like a good lazy Sunday afternoon film to watch. I used to read a lot about cyptids so this might be something I should watch
