My Dad drove the family there sometime in the 70's, I only caught a glimpse of the station but I remeber vividly just how busy it was. I desperately wanted to go and spend some time there but my parents made me look at flowers & marching bands. I didn't realise it was still busy in the 80's, I went off trains by then, found girls. As Mark Edgar says, I never imagined that scenes like these would ever go away.
Amazing that people used to travel from all over to the Tulip parade. I remember the sidings out the front of the station rammed full of coaches and every available siding on the other side full with about 5 or 6 different classes of loco - even a 33!
Another excellent video Roy, OK, quality not the best HD but it sure is great to go back to the heady days when the train COULD take the strain. How many of us wouldn't want to get into a time machine and go back to these days of "British Rail" when you could go places cheaply and reliably without booking 17 light years ahead of the intended day of travel. I would for one (:
Thankyou!!!! I really appreciate this :) i stopped watching trains after the deltics were scrapped but i didnt realise back then that scenes like this wouldnt last forever
No need to apologise for the quality!! Anyone that gurns about it is silly! It’s brill. Dang I’ve never seen so many super-long DMU sets! 13:45 Didn’t know about the Tulip Parade in Spalding. Every day is a school day.
To be honest, for a 34 recording it's of good quality. H&S was clearly lacking back in the day given the number of people walking over the tracks - Nice video Roy
Went on a special not to see Flowers but Deltics. Invited into Empty Stock Working to Peterborough. Didnt half shift! No return working so Marooned untill my Dad picked me up! The next Day!
I wish we did things like this now. Sadly habits and more sadly the demographic is changing. And those arrivals don't realise how they destroy the environment they yearn for
Puts into perspective just how much track and buildings have gone since then.
I would take lesser quality videos any day, rather than no video at all. Thanks very much for sharing.

THE BEST TRAIN FOOTAGES EVER! I REALLY LOVE B I G DMUs! THATS HOW REAL TRAINS SHOULD BE!
Glad you like it.
Wonderful memories of a great time to be a rail enthusiast. Thanks.
Yes it was!
"I love these new pacers! I hope they stick around for ever!"
-Someone in the 80s, probably
This was an utter joy to watch

Love the old days of trains! Thank you for this!
The old DMU's and that Beautiful 47 hauling lots of stock!
Great video Roy. So much of interest back then. Sod dinosaurs, if I had a time machine it would be back to the 80s to watch trains!

People were safe. But Spalding can't host trains like this now due to rationalisation
@@Isochestsafe, and had common sense, and not a blame culture

Them wert' days, some great propelling/shunting there, i loved all that malarkey as a Signalman. Was 47029 0n Steam Heat as well ?
Good wholesome stuff from the past!
All for the love of tulips and over priced hotdogs.....RIP Spalding Flower parade.

Do these trains still run?
No, The Flower Parade finished four years ago. its all History now.
