    For almost 5 years I've driven this 2014 Ford Escape base model. It's been a reliable vehicle for this entire time, with no major issues. Now that it's getting close to the time to "turn it in" I wanted to make a video noting some of the things I've encountered during my time with it. Hopefully this video will help anyone looking to learn a little bit about the 3rd generation Ford Escape.
    Be sure to leave some kind of constructive comment, or just tell me I’m a creepy cop impersonator (even though everyone knows that I’d never impersonate law enforcement) - either way:

    I’ve got 100,000 miles on my 2018 escape with the 1.5. It’s been absolutely trouble free so far aside from a tailgate latch failure. I change the oil every 4,000 miles and have done a transmission service, and ptu service twice. It runs and drives like new still.

    My 2013 Escape S model with 2.5L engine has been great. 104,000 miles. There is a known issue on the 6F35 transmission but the trans drain n fill I did at 50k intervals seems to have prevented any issues. I do use Prolong transmission treatment. It made it very quiet and shifting became very smooth.

      Our 2014 SE version has so many gremlins that it's annoying. Many of them are electrical issues. "System Off To Save Power" and "Vechile Transport Active Mode" came up that I was like, fine. I pulled the positive battery terminal and put it back on 30 seconds later. Cleared that issue. So far. But the 2014 SE is a full on lemon if you ask me.

    I have a 2014 ford escape s…same 2.5l….same everything. We bought it brand new, and it now has 170000 and climbing….no issues except for whatever reason, I’ve had to replace the battery 3 times…battery warranty covered it everytime, but what a nuisance.
    I did replace the throttle body. Had an engine light and limp mode one morning on the way to work. Code came up a little vague, as most are, as a throttle body issue. And believe it or not, a factory ford unit with a gasket, was 100 bucks….🤷 so I replaced them both myself in about 20 minutes. Easy job…
    I did keep the old one as the code stated that it could be throttle body or gasket or both as potential issues. Codes get you on a track but not a definite solution and it was cheap enough to just replace them with a ford unit. I change my oil with ford oil and filter every 5000 miles….sometimes less. NOT 10000. I do it myself and you can get the oil and filter at Walmart for around 30 or less. Spark plugs are motorcraft every time.
    So far…it’s been an excellent vehicle.

    I own a 2016 Escape. First, it is not worth the sticker price the dealer was asking which was about 24,000. I negotiated a price under 20,000. Overall it has been a pretty good vehicle. My car has 190,000 miles on it and just last month(August 2021), the transmission went out. A remanufactered one is being installed now. I previously owned a Ford Ranger truck and it lasted well over 280,000 miles.

    The battery location alone is enough to make me question buying one! Thank you!! I had been looking at one, a 2014 Titanium model BUT then battery location...Sweet Baby Jesus what were they thinking?? Maybe not as bad as some that out it under the front passenger seat (Audi Q7 suv) as well as many others..still a pain..although not the pain of the Corvettes that had you remove the front tire to get to the battery...

    • @timeactor

    Thanks for your review. I own a 2013 Escape. I'll never buy another Ford vehicle because of the stupid location of the battery in the Escape. It looks like the radio display shows the date in a different spot & I don't know if it has the rear right seat hideaway compartment... Differences are the color match door handles on the outside, window tinting, and the alloy wheels are standard instead of optional... funny enough there's another 14 escape SE in the company's fleet that has everything on the one I mentioned, and does have the same radio display as yours, as well as the cargo outlet... must be a-la-cart options on the base?

      If it's the 2.5L is a Ford duratec, made by Ford in union with Mazda. Old strong reliable motor.

      It seems to be hit or miss. I know someone who was a buyer for GM and the issue you will see with the domestic manufacturers is they change their component suppliers more frequently than, say, the Japanese brands; this is why there is more inconsistently with the quality than many of those makes.

    swelling lug nuts? WTH are you talking about...

    • @ron8566
      @ron8566 2 года назад

      The lug nuts are two piece. There is an outer chrome cap sized to the onboard wrench. Once that chrome cap swells, it is nearly impossible to remove the lug nuts since the chrome caps spin around the real lugs. Of course the real lugs are smaller than the chrome cap and don’t work with the onboard wrench. Easy to fix by just replacing the lugs with one piece lug nuts.
