After the complexity of songs on Sgt. Pepper, The White Album, and beyond, Paul, the troubadour, decides to return to the Beatles' mid-'60s signature sound with "I Will," which sounds quite similar to what they were doing in "Help!" for example. Though this track has a very simple, laid-back sound, it took a whopping 67 takes to get it done, in true McCartney fashion, though many of the takes were false starts.
🗣️ "I had the melody for quite a long time, but I didn't have lyrics to it," Paul said. "I remember sitting around with Donovan after our day of meditation, and I played him "I Will," and he liked it, and we were trying to write some words. We kicked around a few lyrics, something about the moon, but they weren't very satisfactory, and I thought the melody was better than the words, so I didn't use them. I kept searching for better words, and I wrote my own set in the end-very simple words. I think they're quite effective. It's still one of my favorite melodies that I've written."

Beautiful song! One of my favorites!❤️🎵🌞
I Will is genuinely one of my favorite songs of all time. Absolutely beautiful melody, heartbreaking lyrics, and production that supports the tone of the song brilliantly. It’s one of the only love songs about loving someone who doesn’t exist, and the pain and beauty in a love that isn’t even there to be unrequited.
For sure is one of my favorites Paul’s song
Love this song
To think paul wrote & performed this song & "HELTER SKELTER" on the same album shows his incredible range!
Bears a strong resemblance to “I’ll Follow the Sun”.
It's a pretty tune 🎸 I enjoy.
The lyrics are so simple yet so sweet and beautiful
This is one of my favorites from this period. Just a simple (if short) love song. A shame it doesn't get the level of recognition it deserves.
About ten years ago, I had an online love ( sadly we never made it to where we could meet in person ) that only lasted for a year and a half...I once, on the phone, sang to her 'I Will' ..At the end, her voice was shaking as if she was crying and said ' I love you'.. If only things could've worked out for her and I ...Sadly it never came to be.. In a way, to this day, I still do love her and always 'will'..
Paul: I Will.
Also Paul: Helter Skelter.
It's the mark of a genius mind.
A great song. I dig playing and singing this one. It's quite complex and unusual for sounding so simple, because it's not. The drummer in my band thought Beatles songs were simple, that is until he started learning guitar.
A beauty…and catchy to boot!
The only song that was recorded on my birthday (that I can recall) beautiful melody and although I didn’t rave over at first few listens it has since grown on me much more than many other Mac songs.
He was (is) a master of the acoustic guitar!
Original title was I Won’t. Then Paul was given inspirational speech from the Guru
Absolutely fantastic have a wonderful day ❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊😊
I've always considered Step Inside Love as Paul's take on bossa nova.
And not a word about Paul using his voice for a bass instead of playing his bass. Now who else would try such a thing. This was years before Bobby McFerrin! 😆
Yep!
' I will' sounds so much like 'I'll follow the sun' from the Beatles for sale album. Still its a good song.
John wrote Girl about the girl he was looking for and found i Yoko.
It sounds like I Will was Paul's take on that kind of song, he found Linda.
Completely incorrect. Too bad.
@@FlipDahlenburg incorrect how?
It’s one of the only love songs about loving someone that doesn’t even exist, and the pain and beauty that comes with a love that isn’t even there to be unrequited. I love it so much.
"here sheee comesss agaaaain....and she used to be mine....my best friennnd's giiiiirrrlll frienddddddd"
Right you are!
Fabulous guitar work in that song, and Elliot Easton lifted that main riff from "I Will".
I was thinking about this song earlier. It occurred to me that it and the two adjacent ones were the last ones in the first half of *the White Album.* It then occurred to me that those same three songs were the last ones on *Anthology 3,* only "I Will" and "Why Don't We Do It in the Road" were swapped.
Like Kim, the Fav Song from Paul..🌹🕊✌❤love you 4ever and 4ever..🎼🎶🎤Elli
Interesting that he got into the Bossa Nova sound with Tom Jobin (and Jao Gilberto?). Around that time Brasil 66 was doing a number of covers, including a particularly good one of Fool on the Hill.
At 3:37 it shows Paul playing right handed guitar.
It’s clearly mirrored
Trick photography ... 📷 🤡
Cierto es bonita canción. Yo pensé sería para alguna chica. Y no es así. Es la inspiración pura de Paul. Saludos. 😊❤❤
I was born while they were recording this song.
❤❤❤❤❤❤
And a fantastic acoustic-lead in the end. It's hard for me to stomach WHY DON'T WE DO IT and WILD HONEY PIE when he can deliver plums like I WILL. Meanwhile, George's properly accusatory NOT GUILTY and SOUR MILK SEA are shoved aside... maybe George was right in that regard... it'd be a few more years before Paul and John was trade song-salvos on their solo albums.
How about a video on all the unaccredited ghostwriters and musicians that played on Beatles albums? Probably not...
Go back under your rock.
And stay there
"Effortlessly" ?? I don't think so - Years in the making / struggling to find words? (Definitely worth the wait though..)
Doesn't necessarily mean John refused to cooperate on thé lyrics, but with Paul was unable to improve them.
I bought a stuffed rabbit for my daughter years ago that can sit on a shelf and has a recording of a young girl singing this song. Don't remember where I got it, but will never part with it.
That one, but Michelle is in my opinion better because of John & George in the background humming if you listen to it closely!
...and Ringo present...
Definitely couldve been on rubber soul
Paul sang bass part....
There is no ADT on I will
"I Will" He is tellin us he;s William, not Paul in this tune
I absolutely loathe these fake AI/computer generated "vocals" in a fake documentary style. Can't we get a legitimate person to tell this story??
This is _literally_ me narrating. What are you on about?
@@BeatlesBible1 It sounds way to computer generated to me. Sorry if it isn't.
paul, if you're reading this, take some more lsd, and make some good music again!
John wrote this
He did indeed, as a thank you to Paul for writing In My Life!
@@graniterhythm53 haha, you wish. Paul fan boys take credit for everything
@@theone456so do John's fans, kiddo.
lol
I love the Beatles and I love Paul McCartney, but this is truly one of his most ordinary songs. Basic ballad compared to other songs he has written. Sorry fans.
