I Iove aespa's music. It’s unique. It’s futuristic. Their storyline/lore is intriguing. Their discography is diverse. I love their concept. I love their sound. Their vocals are amazing. Their rapping is dope. Their dancing is top-tier. They have great visuals. Their choreographies are awesome. Their MVs are phenomenal.
I was confused by Red Velvets song as well at first, but here is an explanation I saw someone give for the mv that kinda helped me: The girls are all held captive in the basement by an unknown man (he was in the photo at the beginning). Yeri is the youngest one who is celebrating her birthday in the mv and makes a wish in the candle, possibly to be free. I think there was some crashing and stuff and it broke the lock. Wendy decides this is the time, Yeri wants to stop her, but she reassures her and goes up to the house and murders the man to free everyone. They go and investigate the noises and discover what’s happened. Though everyone isn’t happy about what happened, they all help clean it up. Joy was the most distraught by it, as seen by her screaming and her frantically scrubbing. She wants to confess s to the police by taking the rock that Wendy used to kill him to them, but Seulgi stops her. Irene is supposed to be the oldest who keeps her emotions together to be strong for everyone, which you see by her not having much facial expressions and hugging Yeri. Yeri seems confused by it all, and I think she’s also upset that their lives are changed now and the memories they had are only memories now(which is shown by the tapes on the tv of them being happy) and her spacing out and getting mad at Irene . Wendy feels guilty and loses her happy self and puts her energy into caring for Yeri (which is why she’s holding her hand and sitting next to her on the bus). They decide to leave the house together and burn the house down. The fire alerts the police to what’s happened and they are found. But they don’t care because they are together. I think the happy moments of the song are supposed to show the happiness they have from being free which is why it fits well with the mv.
The clothes are supposed to have a meaning as well I guess: 1. Irene has fairy wings on because she thinks of fairies to help her get through what has happened (remember she stays strong in front of everyone) 2. Joy wears the eyepatch because she doesn’t want to face the true reality of what’s happened 3. Yeri has the veil on because she has dreams of growing up and getting married 4. Seulgi has a guitar because she uses music as therapy 5. Wendy’s clothes don’t technically mean anything from what I’ve learned, but hers more so shows in her action of staying next to Yeri like I mentioned to get through her guilt by taking care of her Someone also thought that the reason they have kids clothes on is because they’ve been there since they were kids, but idk. Idk if that fully made sense. I’m writing this all from memory :)
