  • This is my upload of the rare full original area music for the Lanai (waiting area) of Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room, used from 1963-1976. The Enchanted Tiki Room began performing 60 years ago in June 1963, and although the show today is a shorter version of the original, the Lanai area music has been changed twice. This original 1963 version lasted until 1976 when Dole took over sponsorship. The original sponsor was United Airlines, who promoted their South Pacific flights here from roughly 1965 until 1974. The second version lasted from 1976 until the major 2004-05 refurbishment, and the third version has been used since 2005. They are all very similar in nature with South Pacific Islands inspired music that fits perfectly as guests queue up for this classic show. This 1963 version is a 36 minute compilation of original orchestrations by famed Disney Legend and composer Buddy Baker. Baker also composed many classic film scores as well as park classics like Grim Grinning Ghosts in Haunted Mansion (1969-present), and the Clock Parade, area music, the South Pacific & North Pole audio in it's a small world after it moved to Disneyland after premiering at the World's Fair (1966-93, 2003-present). I am impressed that Baker was able to compose 36 minutes of original area music for this beautiful waiting area, as that was still a rare feat in the 1960's. Many area loops then were only a few minutes. Ever since I was a little boy, the Tiki Room Lanai has always been one of my all time favorite waiting areas in Disneyland (Tiki Room is also one of my favorite attractions). I absolutely love all of the Polynesian inspired details and especially the 8 (Originally 9) Tiki gods & goddesses that are situated around the Lanai. All nine of them were designed by Walt's legendary Imagineer Rolly Crump and mostly modeled after traditional Polynesian mythology. They are Maui (God of Time), Koro (The Midnight Dancer), Rongo (God of Agriculture), Pele (Goddess of Fire), Negendei (The Earth Balancer), Tangaroa Ru (Goddess of Wind), Hina Kuluua (Goddess of Rain), and Tangaroa the tree (Father of all Gods & Goddesses). Originally, there was also Uti, Goddess of Fishing, who was perched on her canoe in front of the entrance and the Tiki Juice Bar after it opened in 1968. Unfortunately, a sad period of neglect in the 1990's and early 2000's led to wood rot and her removal in 2000, and unfortunately she never returned. The Barker Bird originally sat next to Uti from 1963-67, but was then removed due to causing more congestion at the Adventureland entrance. There used to be a tall fence separating the Adventureland entrance from the Lanai. This fence originally featured several copies of the Tiki Room attraction poster. This was replaced with United Airlines flight ads around 1965, which became other Disneyland attraction posters upon their departure in 1974. These attraction posters were removed in the early 1980's and the fence was replaced with a shorter one sometime in the early-mid 1990s. The 9 Tiki's around the Lanai have also been repainted several times. This happened a few times in the 1970's and 80's, beginning around 1970, and they were most recently repainted in 2005. The pictures show how Pele received more blue around 1970, and by 1974 Tangaroa had received newer leaves for his babies, more like the ones present today. This video features many pictures that are pretty much in chronological order between 1963 and 1975. Some of them are undated, and those ones are put in their time period of the 1960's. There are a lot of great vintage pictures that I have found from mostly a few wonderful sources. These include Daveland, Gorillas Don't Blog, and Matterhorn Blog. Huge thanks to these amazing sites for having these amazing images! Some images were found at various other sources. And huge thanks to DisneyChris for releasing this audio! I hope you enjoy this classic area music!
I do not own any of the audio or images used in this video. All of this audio and the images are owned by their respective owners, not me. Huge thanks to DisneyChris for releasing this rare audio. All pictures taken between 1963-1975.

Wow, I am absolutely blown away by this. I worked at the Tiki room back in the early 2010's and always loved the lanai music and wanted to reminisce, which is why I stumbled upon this video. This is so fantastic. This iteration of the lanai music is such a wonderful vibe. It's the perfect combination of tropical escapism, mixed with magical, mixed with mid century. Thank you so much for releasing this. I will continue revisiting this video often and treasure it.

I'm so glad you enjoy this so much and that I was able to release this classic audio. I also really love the style of this music. It's technically my favorite version of the Lanai music, but I love them all. It is really cool that you worked at Tiki Room. Out of all Disneyland jobs, that is one that I would probably enjoy more than most, thanks to the great music and visuals throughout. Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room is one of my favorite parts of Disneyland.

@@benjaminroberson1924Agreed, I also think all of the Lanai music is wonderfulthat they have had throughout the years (thanks for posting all 3 variations by the way). I technically worked Tiki Room, Jungle Cruise, Thunder Mountain, and Indiana Jones Adventure, but Tiki Room had to be my favorite. Nothing like getting paid to watch the Tiki room and soak in the wonderful ambience! Thanks again, I really enjoy your channel and the rare and quality content you provide. Keep it up!

Funnily enough I'm actually already working on a similar video with the 1976-2004 Wagner Tiki Lanai loop! I expect it to be ready sometime next week
