  • Painting blinds is a quick and easy way to give your windows a whole new look on a budget! These vinyl blinds were yellowed from years of sun exposure, but with a quick wash and a coat of spray paint, they look like new again!

    I used 2 wire coat hangers and suspended both sets of my mini blinds (while open) on the garage door while it was up. I didn't bother taking the string out because I spray painted them all in silver metallic. Very light coats as not to run. You would never know they were vinyl.

    I've never seen blinds with those notches they all seem to have the string going through long oval hole that you can't take the blinds out of

    So mine are a dark wood color with brown string 🤦🏼‍♀️ so I can't reuse the string if I paint them white.

    Newer wood blinds have a string going through the wood blind. So you won't be able to slide the wood piece out from the side as you demonstrated. Do you know how to slide wood pieces out in this case?

    • @michelepostma4498
      @michelepostma4498 Год назад

      @@northernbettygirl... there's another video where she put a plastic bag with bleach and soap on the floor and placed all the strings into the bag - they were still attached to the top strut - and left them for a few hours then rinsed and they were perfectly white again

    • @chalise73
      @chalise73 10 месяцев назад

      On the bottom slat there are plugs that hold that string going through the blind. Gently remove with a screwdriver and pull the string back. If strings are dirty, soak in a solution of bleach and water (50/50) for 10-20 mins then rinse with water.

    9/10 people will end up never being able to get the slat to fit back in and function as they should, be warned.

    Dear Daughter: Are these the old corded blinds, because, I balk at the thought of dismantling the new cordless ones, lest the mechanics may differ, along with the new style not being able to be shortened?
    ----------------------------------- Another question: Why do many stores sell off-white blinds instead of real or pure white?

      Same question as well. I’m thinking about taking blinds outside and hanging the from a tree and trying to paint. Will do a trial on laundry room blinds first, as these are the smallest and most inconspicuous place in the house.

      Yes , they paint mine . They just hang up and spray all together including the string . The string it’s a little too hard for the paint but nobody notice until you touch it .

    How long did it take u to restring them I have a lot of them 11 very old Aluminum blinds 45 years old

    • @TheHandymansDaughter
      @TheHandymansDaughter  3 года назад

      It takes about 10 minutes to restring them. But these slats just sit on the strings at the grooves, so it was pretty easy. If you have to thread the slats through holes, it would probably take much longer!

      Once you get into a rhythm, it doesn't take too long. Maybe 10 minutes to take them out and a little longer to put them back together. Painting only takes a few minutes!

      I am doing this now. I have really nice blinds in good condition but the color is terrible. Replacing them with new ones is not an option so I updated the strings, sanded all the blinds and painted them with an UV resistant white paint. I did everything in pieces over time and it came out great. But I also have airless sprayers and HVLP sprayers. My neighbor spent over a thousand dollars updating his blinds buying new ones. I put the money I saved from the blinds into new flooring. It was tedious for sure but worth it in the end.
