Here in the Netherlands we eat sauerkraut (zuurkool in Dutch) stew mainly in the winter time, it consists of cooked potatoes and sauerkraut, but other ingredients like paprika or raisins are sometimes added. It's accompanied by a large piece of smoked sausage (rookworst in Dutch) and sometimes baked bacon. A bit of gravy on top is also nice. It's eaten as a main dish without bread.
Hi Frank, please don't take this comment the wrong way as you taught me something new with your comment so I wanted to return the favour. When you say "contains of potatoes" that doesn't work in English. If you say contains you can just say contains potatoes, or you can say consists of potatoes. Again, please don't take this the wrong way because literally the rest of your English was 100% correct so I thought you might appreciate this. Cheers, and thanks for more info on the Dutch diet, after I learnt about fritessaus I knew I needed to learn more
@@fhwolthuis no problem, I'm just glad you didn't take it badly! If I am speaking a language that is not my first and I make any error (which is often lol) I appreciate when someone is able to just take the time to let me know. I'd like to think that means they care enough to make the effort
What a confusing kind of a comment here. If I like it, would I support your assumption that you're the only one loving them? If i thumb it down, would it mean that the vids are bad? I'm all hesitating...
Why would he be prejudice against them? They are very welcoming people who from personal experience here are on my level of dry humour and don't get angry when a curious Brit asks what's this or that with foods from their culture :)
I'm a big fan of sauerkraut. If you like these you should try Polish bigos. It's pretty much their national dish. I'm not sure if the pre made stuff is any good, but home made is delicious imo.
Is sauerkraut a thing in the UK, generally speaking? I never saw any when I was visiting, but I wasn't really paying attention or looking for it, either so...
Not really. The closest you will find here (at least as a native product) is pickled red cabbage, but that's a vinegar pickle. It is possible to find sauerkraut as an imported product, especially in baltic shops, and kimchi is getting easier to find, but these products are not really integrated here yet
Is sauerkraut like coleslaw without mayonnaise? It looks like it from the pictures I've seen of it I'm from the uk so if I sound dumb asking that's why and how do you make those giant pretzels the ones that they do sausages in not the small snack ones the ones like bread rolls they are amazing
@@casswelsh2186 Coleslaw without the mayonnaise dressing is just raw cabbage/carrot, I think. Sauerkraut on the other hand is pickled cabbage. It's made by adding salt to raw shredded cabbage and leaving it to ferment, which makes it softer and slightly sour (sauer = sour, kraut = cabbage). This sourness is from lactic acid and is milder than pickled beetroot or onions which are pickled in vinegar. It tastes really nice on hotdogs and with other types of sausage. I'm not German, I'm British and just a fan of all sorts of pickles :) For the big, soft pretzels, check out the channel My Name is Andong. He's German and has a good pretzel/brezen recipe video, though he makes food from all over the world. I love those pretzels too, they're so delicious. German potato salad looks delicious too but I don't know much about it :(
As part Pennsylvanian German/Dutch, and such, I'm expected to like sauerkraut, and I do not! The same goes with sweet potatoes around here, also hate it. But, you eat them, so I don't have to. : p
You should try pan fried potatoes and sauerkraut with salt, pepper and honey drizzled on top (maybe add some spicy sausages cut up). So simple yet so delicious fr!
OK I love your videos and will never stop watching them but now I can see why people wanted you to put some other sound over you eating. That noise is just disturbing and horrible.
More people commented to say they missed the eating sounds than ever commented to complain about them. This isn't a democracy, but given the sounds of eating are the natural default, I won't be removing them in future. I will make sure they aren't right in the microphone, but they're going to be there in some fashion. Sorry about that. I guess the solution, if eating sounds freak you out, might be to avoid videos about eating...

These videos are so relaxing and genuine to watch, very chill!

sauerkraut is maybe the best food on the planet
I really enjoy these videos. Thank you for trying all the weird cans and describing tastes so clearly.
I like Sauerkraut with Spaetzle topped with a sharp Switzerland Cheese topped after with fried Onions
Any excuse to eat buttered bread works for me.
I think the right one is supposed to be a type of Szegedin goulash which oriinates in Hungary. In Austria there are usually boiled potatoes mixed in.
