I have seen a lots of travel videos. I have to say that nobody provides information so accurately, precisely and comprehensively as you do. I wish there was someone like you in every city.
Just back from Barcelona and was extremely glad that I had seen this video before I came. Saved med a lot of time, money, confusion and frustration. Thank you!
The guy that works at the subway station told me that whoever advised me that whoever advised me on my ticket choices advised me extremely well... He says he sees tons of tourists buying the wrong cards...thank you Tony!!!
Your videos are so helpful! I traveled from the Barcelona airport to my hotel so easily and inexpensively with a T casual ticket using the train from Barcelona Airport terminal 2 to Passeig Gracia. I transferred to Metro, in the same station and took Metro to the Liceu station on Las Ramblas. Just a block or so to my hotel. Cost was 1.13€. Gracias!
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal so based ont this comment, from T2 BCN I can use T-Mobilitat+T-Casual to take R2N Train to Barcelona Sants (and continue with metro). I can buy it on ticket machine at T2 train station like before, just different display etc. Correct me if I am wrong. Gracias. :)
This video single-handedly saved our trip to Barcelona ❤ The new system is soo confusing and your explaining made it all make sense. Thank you so much. Keep up the good work 😊
Good to hear that, Martin. And yes, we agree, the system could be simpler. This coming Sunday we will publish our 2024 guide on how to leave from Barcelona airport. All the best.
I'm in Barcelona right now. Wanted to take the metro but didn't know exactly how with the new changes. Watched your video, walked out of my hotel about 100 meters and went into the metro station, bought the card I needed as you showed us and got into the train I needed to get to my dinner destination. Thanks for the useful video, as your others have been for me the past year or so. Keep up the good work!
This video was so helpful! Thank you! We were able to easily get a T-familiar card and load it. The card worked properly when we took our first bus ride. On the second bus ride, the card would not work. We went to a Metro station on Passeig de Gracia near Casa Mila and good thing there was an employee there who was able to give us a replacement card.
Hi Anna, glad our video was useful. Sorry to hear of your problems with the card, it is not a common occurrence, I can imagine how frustrating it must have been. All the best!
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal I did think this was a rare situation but wanted to share it in case it happened to someone else. I was more worried on the bus that we would get kicked off or fined but all went well. Public transport is so easy to use in Barcelona!
Really excellent video. Thank you so much for making it. This and your other videos are so well produced and they are so clear. I have had questions while watching, but you always have answered them during the course of the video. Keep up the great work. Thanks again.
Hola Tony!! Your videos about Barcelona were extremely useful on my 4 days trip to the city 15 days ago. I brought the T-Usual and work wonderful. Only used public transportation's to visit all of the attractions the i could see. The city is incredible. The tip how to get off the airport to Metro was great to. I do it by Terminal 1. Me and my wife save money with T-Usual and was very convenient. Many thanks for Your incredible work, very easy to understand and very complete. Will continue to assist more of them since i intend to continue visit many places in Spain. You videos are the better ones that i saw, and is easy to see from them that Tony in a very good person who really like to share the knowledge with others. Many thanks for Your many hours spent making this very useful videos. Muchas Gracias Tony !!
Hey Jorge! I am going to barcelona as well with two of my friends and we are wondering how can we get the t usual. Can we get it in a machine in the airport?
@@kphshot4710 Allo !! Yes You can. When you arrive at the entrance of the metro station You have several machines who sell tickets. Select the T usual as explained by Tony. Don´t forget to put the number of Your identity card as asked by the machine screen when the buying process. Regards
Thanks Tony. I was watching your 2023 videos and got confused quite many times. This video and the new airport transfer video really helped me choose the method of transfer. Keep it going 🎉
Thank you for the explanation. Just to confirm: we can each still purchase a T-usual card at the machines and these will work on the airport train to Barcelona; you still can not load a T-usual onto the Mobilitat card.
Wow, this was so helpful. I know exactly what I need to do. This reminds me of Paris. They changed from there 10 tickets system. They have a Navigo card
Thanks for the amazing video! I have one question! I didnt quite understand only one thing! My family and I are travelling to Barcelona in March and my question is about T-familiar card! We have 8 trips with this card, does each validation at the same metro(for example) reduce the numbers left or they are counted as one trip as long as we are checking it at the same metro?
Have a superb time. In case you haven't seen it, we've just published our 2024 guide to airport transportation here ruclips.net/video/0tMGYYv-8nY/видео.html
Thanks Tony for all your great instruction videos. Should T-mobilitat be validated again when unboarding bus? I want to make sure that trips are not subtracted again. Thanks.
Thank you for your informative video. Regarding the Barcelona airport metro tickets purchased from the machine, will I still receive the classic ticket, and is it not possible to top it up in T-Mobilitat, correct?
Thanks Maximiliano. You are correct, you will get the old paper ticket. We assume it will eventually be incorporated into the T-mobilitat format, but we don't know when. The whole thing is quite confusing, we've tried to make some sense out of it.
the biggest drawback of the t-casual is that you can't use it to the airport. Because of this I am going with the t-usual, the airport ticket alone costs 5.5 EUR and the t-usual can be used to the airport. Also, I will be doing more than 10 trips but less than 20 so would need 2 x t-casual which is more expensive than just the single t-usual so it did not make sense to me. I was told that the t-casual can be used with Renfe lines to the airport but that seems more complicated and did not want to bother with it. The t-usual for 22 Euros unlimited 30 days is a phenomenal deal anyways so why not :)
On 1 January T-usual will revert to its normal price and will no longer be a good deal. Not everyone wants to leave the airport by metro. We often take the train to Sants and then transfer to the metro, paying with T-casual. The needs of one person are very different from those of another.
Hi Tony! Thanks so much for your informative videos!! We are planning to go to Montserrat and Castell de Montjuic during our stay. How many zones would we need to purchase our tickets for in this case?
Hi Shelly, see how to get to Montserrat here ruclips.net/video/DtouuBNpay0/видео.html Barcelona transport tickets are not valid for Montserrat. For the Castle of Montjuïc, zone 1 is enough. All the best.
Thanks for your informative video. I have few questions: 1. The T-card can only buy from the vending machines at metro stations. Right? 2. The T-card can only top-up from the vending machines at metro stations. Right? 3. T-card can be used for both metro and bus, and same fares within zone 1. Right? 4. T-familiar 10.70€ (zone 1, 8 trips), can be travelled by 2 persons at the same time. Tap twice, right? Once 10.70€ is used up, I can pop-up the amount. I don't need to buy two T-cards. T-causal card per journey is slightly cheaper than T-familiar card, I think T-familiar card is more convenient for short stay in Barcelona. If we will travel 10 journeys during the stay Barcelona, buy two T-causal for each of us is better value. Thanks so much!!
Hi, first of all, there is no such thing as t T-card in Barcelona. There is the T-mobilitat where you can load different types of tickets that begin with the letter T. 1. correct. 2. you cannot top up tickets. You buy new ones. 3. yes. Also for trams, trains and the funiculars that are part of the integrated transport system. 4. tap twice. Explained here ruclips.net/user/shortsvLpPgTsib8o
Just to double check, a T-familiar is 8 rides and it can be shared between 2 people. Scan once for the first person and let them walk thru, then scan again for the second person. Right?
Hi Tony, Another great video, thank you! Can you help me understand your statement at 7:56 “but you can change metro lines as many times as you want without spending a second ticket as long as you don’t leave the station.” I guess I don’t know why I would change metro lines without leaving a metro station….?
Am going to be in Barcelona for 8 days & have found your videos to be so helpful! I really appreciate you taking the time to go into so much detail. I do have a few questions: -Do I buy a zone 1 or zone 2 card for La Floresta station (it looks like it is 2C on the map) ? -If we are taking a bus from La Floresta, how would I know which zone that would count as? I've googled this extensively & can't figure it out. -Last, if at a minimum, I plan to go into Barcelona every day & back plus go to the airport on my final day, would it make more sense to get a T-Usual card vs the T-Casual? I really haven't seen anyone go into much detail on the T-Usual.
Hello Bonnie. Your questions: - La Floresta is zone 2. - Zone 2. - the T-usual for 1 zone provides an unbeatable deal in 2024. Might be worth buying the T-usual for 2 zones, slightly more expensive.
Hi Tony. Thanks for this and all the other fantastic videos you have done. Makes our lives so much easier! One question, how does this change affect the hola barcelona 48hr tickets? Do we still insert these into the ticket turnstiles? Thank you.
Thanks Mike. The Hola BCN card continues working the old way, cardboard ticket you need to insert in the turnstiles, as described on this video ruclips.net/video/gmLm0uu1ojQ/видео.html All the best!
Very helpful. But I am still confused with the T-Familiar card. We are a family of 6 people. Given the T-Familiar card is for 8 trips, does it mean, for our first use, my family would use up 6 of the available 8 trips already?
That's correct, the T-familiar is not the best choice for a large family group, depending on the length of your stay in Barcelona, you might be better off with a t-grup.
Thank you so much for the information you provide, ive seen so many of your vids now for my trip in barcelona end of the month. One quick question, does this change affect the combination ticket for montserrat at all?
Tanks Tony it's always very helpful to watch you and your tips I Just have a question wether we can or not use the Tmibilitat card to rent bikes and how are the fares ?
Hi Tony.... very elaborate video.. Thank you for sharing.. Just one question.. is there a day pass for Barcelona that covers bus tram and metro? How much does it cost? Can I get a day pass from T-Mobilitat?
This is so helpful, but I can't help but feel like Europe's card systems is too complicated for its own good. In Japan, you just need one plastic card and you put money in it, and you use it everywhere within the cities except with bullet trains. However, the big advantage EU has (and also NSW, Australia) is how cheap the public fare can get since yours is a fixed per-ride and allows a 100-minute grace period. Japan will cost a lot more if you make a wrong exit/stop, take multiple rides too quickly, and if the distance takes longer than a few stops (i.e. 110 yen for the first 4 stops, but then it increases to 130 all the way to I think 250 yen).
Thank you for the info provided. It's hard to find a balance between a system easy to use (like the Japanese one you quote) or one that allows for different types of tickets for different types of travelers. On a credit system you cannot offer that. Pay-per-distance is fairer to the system, but most Spanish cities (except for the bigger ones) are not that big as to make sense to implement it. All the best.
Hello We will be arriving in Barcelona in April by cruise ship. We will be staying at the Barcelo Sants Hotel for four nights. We plan to take a taxi from the cruise port to our hotel. Since we have visited Barcelona on two previous occasions we thought we would visit some surrounding sites with day trips to Girona, Sitges and possibly Montserrat. On the fourth day we will be going to the airport for our flight back home to Toronto. What would be your recommendation for public transportation for our stay in Barcelona? We love your vlogs. They are very informative and interesting. Thank you.
Hi Steven, if you are going to spend most of your time in Barcelona in day trips, you won't be using much the local transport (only to get to the stations in and out of your day trips). Probably one or several T-casual cards are the best choice for you.
Incredible video, thank you so much for all the valuable information.❤ I have couple of questions regarding T-usual card. If I buy T-usual card can I use all the different types of transportation (bus, metro, train) without any limitations (e.g. travelling many times with a metro or bus back and forth) and time restrictions, because with T-casual card you need to change the means of transportation within 75 minutes? Can I buy a T-usual ticket online and take it on TMB machine in metro station, or do I have to take it in TMB store only? Can I use metro at night on workdays until midnight, and weekends until 2 AM with T-usual card? Can I use T-usual card when going from airport to the city center with metro? Thank you very much in advance 😊
Thank you, Melina. With the T-usual you can ride, unlimited times, all the transport modes in Barcelona, including the airport metro. There are not time restrictions. Buy the ticket at the metro station (we show you how here ruclips.net/video/0tMGYYv-8nY/видео.html on the video on how to leave the airport). All the best!
This is so helpful!!! Thank you so much!!! Can you share tips for Airport transportation next since the T mobilitat card can't be used to and from Airport?
Hi! T-mobilitat cards can't be used on the metro line, that travels to the airport - L9 Sud, but otherwise they CAN be used on other public transport to the airport such as bus (46, N17, N16) and train (R2N). And card T-usual (that can be bought only with an ID number) can be used even on that metro line L9 Sud.
@@paul.anthony It really depends on where your accommodation in the city is (and on which terminal you arrive, during the day or is it a night flight). Train R2 Nord stops on Barcelona-Sants (the main train station) and other central city stop is Passeig de Gracia. Really watch Tony's video about it, it's very helpful.
Hi! Thank you so much for the info, it really helped to understand what card should I buy. One question : I read somewhere that if I validate tickets on a bus, and after that zi change to another transport like metro, the previous validation is still available. But as far as zi understoos, I need to validate it anyway, which I find a little confusing. So if I validate it again, one new ticket will not be consumed, because the first one is available for 75 mins?
You must always validate your trips, whether a trip is discounted from your card or not. We tried to make it clear in the video. If you are within the 75 minute period, no credits will be discounted on the second validation.
Heloo Tony thaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaank you so much for your amazing vids. Always informative clear. Just one question, I would love to take the train from Barcelona center to the Airport, can I use a one-way ticket or day ticket instead of the T-Casual ???
The Hola Barcelona card continues to operate in exactly the same way as before as it hasn't been incorporated yet to the T-mobilitat platform. We have a video explaining how it works here: ruclips.net/video/gmLm0uu1ojQ/видео.html
Hi Tony many thanks for all your videos very help full, just a confusion need a confirmation please, will use Euromed train from Alicante to Barcelona Sants, can I use the combinado to catch a bus L94 to the Hotel? Thank you
Hello Tony! Thank you for an informative video! I am seeking a piece of good advice, hope you can help: We are a group of 3 people (foreigners, only 1 has NIE), and are visiting Barcelona for 30 days. We plan to use subway to go to the beach and back, as well as travel through Barcelona visiting best sites. Do you recommend we get a T-grup card (70 commutes in 30 days) since we really plan to use transport a lot? If so, how do,we actually use it? One person passes, then gives the card to another one to pass and then to another? And this way it will only count as 1 trip? Thank you.
Hello, you can buy a T-group (you will use three credits every time you travel, see here ruclips.net/user/shortsvLpPgTsib8o ) or you could buy a T-usual each one of you. All the best.
Just to make sure I got this right: I buy the T-mobilitat card for 10.50€ and it’s good to use right away. But if I need to top it off with additional rides I need to add more balance to it. ?? Can you please share where are these available to buy? I’ll arrive from France into Barcelona Sants metro station, I’m sure I can buy there but just want to make sure. Also do these need to be activated. I saw YT by another traveler who got in trouble for not activating the card
We'd like to invite you to watch the video again. As explained in the video, the anonymous T-mobilitat costs 0,50€. It is the support where you will load the tickets you buy. You buy it at the metro stations, including Sants, and as soon as you retrieve it from the machine it is ready to use, no need to activate it.
Thanks fot this great video! Next week I will stay four days in Barcelona. How do I get with an T-mobilitat away from the aeroport tot the hotel in the Centre?
Hi Tony, thank you for publishing such videos. They are perfect 👍. You mentioned that the T-Usual card must have a passport or ID card number on it. Is this stated during the purchase process at the ticketing machine or is it written on the card with a pen after purchase?
Hi Martin, you inform your ID number when you buy the ticket. It appears printed on the card. At the beginning of February we will publish our 2024 video on how to leave the airport with updated information on that and many other issues.
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugalI'd also love to see how to setup T-Usual, merci. My family and I are staying for a couple weeks in March and want to save, €21.35 seems like a deal for unlimited rides.

Hi, thank you for this video. What about the hola Barcelona card? Has it been discontinued? For a 4 day trip to Barcelona would you recommend the hola Barcelona card or the t-mobilitat? Thanks
Hi there, the Hola Barcelona card continues to exist in the old paper format, it hasn't changed. For a four day trip to Barcelona the T-usual, right now, is a better option. We talk about it on the updated video on how to leave the airport we will publish tomorrow.
Hi Tony….we are 4 adults going to Barcelona in September for 5 days. I think the best T-Mobilitat for us is a T-Usual….can tourists buy these at the airport ticket machine on arrival and just enter our passport numbers in to the ticket machine?…Thankyou
Great video! My daughter and I will be in Barcelona for 8 days next month, I am thinking the T-usual is better for us instead of the T-casual. I like the idea of buying unlimited travel and forgetting about it since it is currently so cheap. Anyone have any thoughts/advice on doing another card instead? Thank you
Thanks, Alma. Right now, as we comment on the video on how to leave the airport here ruclips.net/video/0tMGYYv-8nY/видео.html T-usual provides an unbeatable deal. All the best!
Hi tony when purchasing a t casual ticket does it come with the 10 ride tickets already or after purchasing the card do i have to buy the tickets to add on the card.
Another great video! Thanks for putting this all together. I looked at the website for civitatis Barcelona and see an Hola Barcelona and a Barcelona card. Do you recommend either of these for a couple who will be in Barcelona for 3 days? Thanks!
You are welcome, Ted. We don't recommend the Barcelona Card. You'll be much better off with the Hola Barcelona, we have a whole video on it: ruclips.net/video/gmLm0uu1ojQ/видео.html We recommend you buy it from the Barcelona Tourist Office website (we provide a link on that video). All the best!
Hi - great video. Quick question, we arrive into Barcelona by train but leave from the airport. We will be getting the T-mobilitat with the T-Familar card… can we use that to take the train to the airport please? Thanks
What a great video! Thank you so much. I'll be visiting soon. The T-familiar seems the best option. If I understood correctly - If I take the bus from the airport into the city & then get onto a metro all within 75mins - that would count as a single ticket right?
Hi Antara, you can only use the t-familiar on the local bus from the airport, not the Express bus (see all the details here: ruclips.net/video/YFJG4bZYxU4/видео.html ). You will have to buy the t-familiar at the train station ticket machines at T2. Bus and metro will count as one trip, yes.
There’s a lot of different ticket types. I’m travelling from Santa Susanna to Barcelona (and then return later) What ticket type should I buy please? :)
Santa Susanna is miles away from Barcelona (zone 5). Buy one specific ticket to go from Santa Susanna to Barcelona, and a different one to move around Barcelona.
Hello Tony. First of all, thank you for your videos, they helped me a lot during my travels in Portugal and Spain. Please, keep up the great work! Now to my question. I am visting Barcelona in April whith my family (3 persons) and we will be staying in Cabrera De Mar (Zone 2 for public transport). We will arrive to Barcelona via plane to BCN Airport. After seeing your video, we will take the train to Barcelona Sants and then change to R1 train line to Cabrera De Mar. Is this journey possible whith one 2 zones ticket (we will use T-Familiar, so 3 tickets) or does this count as two separate journeys? Thank you so much for all you videos, Martin from Czech Republic
Hi Martin, Cabrera de Mar is in zone 3 - which makes your trips to Barcelona more expensive. If you buy a T-familiar valid for 3 zones you'll be able to use it on the train to Cabrera de Mar. The entire journey will discount one trip per person from your T-familiar card. All the best to the Czech Republic!
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal Thank for the quick answer and the correction about the zones. I am quite confused, some web sites show it as zone 2 a some as zone 3. What about Vilassar De Mar? Hi! I’m finally in Barcelona. And have understood the entire public transport system - all thanks to you both. I just wanted to know that can be travel on any bus in the city with the T-Familia card (like buses 59, D20, H14 etc)? Thank you!🙏🏽

Hi, thanks for the informative video. Can you please inform me if I buy T-familiar card and we tap it 2 times for 2 passengers(travelling together) then the balance deducted from the card will be 2 or just 1?
Thanks for the video Tony, but I have a question to ask. If I choose the t usual card can I register with my passport number with the machines or shoud I have an internet connection with my mobile phone, application etc. ??

Hi, do I need to validate the card when leaving metro or bus? Or is it just validation at the beginning. Also can I use my bank card instead of T-mobilitat like in London?

What's the current price of the T-Usual?
¡Excelente!! Gracias-estaba nervioso y confundido con este nuevo sistema pero tus explicaciones me enseñaron todo.

¡De nada!
Thank you this video Tony. Very detailed and well explained. Looking forward on using this information on our upcoming trip to Barcelona.
Excellent to hear that. On 4 February we are updating our content on how to leave the airport. All the best!
Thank you for the explanation. Just to confirm: we can each still purchase a T-usual card at the machines and these will work on the airport train to Barcelona; you still can not load a T-usual onto the Mobilitat card.
Lisa, due to its personal nature, T-usual comes loaded on a specific type of T-mobilitat card. You can buy it at the airport and works on the train.
Excellent video....will be very helpful for our arrival in Barcelona next week.

You welcome. The whole system could have been simpler indeed, on the video we tried to explain the changes in an easy to understand way.
Hello, Kaloyan, every time a validation is made, a ticket is discounted from the total credit.
Excellent video, really well explained. Thank you.
Great to hear that, Richard, many thanks.

Thanks Tony for all your great instruction videos. Should T-mobilitat be validated again when unboarding bus? I want to make sure that trips are not subtracted again. Thanks.
You don't validate when onboarding buses. All the best!
Excellent clear video. Well done.
Thank you!
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal thank you so much! 🙏😊
Great video, answers all my questions
Great to hear that!
Thanks for your informative video.
I have few questions:

You might arrive at a metro station, leave the station to buy something outside the station, and return to catch another metro line.
Am going to be in Barcelona for 8 days & have found your videos to be so helpful! I really appreciate you taking the time to go into so much detail. I do have a few questions:
-Do I buy a zone 1 or zone 2 card for La Floresta station (it looks like it is 2C on the map) ?
-If we are taking a bus from La Floresta, how would I know which zone that would count as? I've googled this extensively & can't figure it out.
-Last, if at a minimum, I plan to go into Barcelona every day & back plus go to the airport on my final day, would it make more sense to get a T-Usual card vs the T-Casual? I really haven't seen anyone go into much detail on the T-Usual.
Hello Bonnie. Your questions:
- La Floresta is zone 2.
- Zone 2.
- the T-usual for 1 zone provides an unbeatable deal in 2024. Might be worth buying the T-usual for 2 zones, slightly more expensive.
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal - Thanks so much for the information!
Our pleasure! No, it doesn't affect the combined tickets, as they are not available in the T-mobilitat format.
Tanks Tony it's always very helpful to watch you and your tips
I Just have a question wether we can or not use the Tmibilitat card to rent bikes and how are the fares ?
Hi there, T-mobilitat cannot be used to rent bikes.
Hi Tony.... very elaborate video.. Thank you for sharing.. Just one question.. is there a day pass for Barcelona that covers bus tram and metro? How much does it cost? Can I get a day pass from T-Mobilitat?
Hi, there is a day pass called T-dia, it's not loaded on a T-mobilitat.
Love your channel...an iOS version is now ready but I haven't tried it yet...
Thank you! Yes, the iOS version has been out for quite some time, but you cannot use it yet to validate your trips.
Hello
We will be arriving in Barcelona in April by cruise ship.
Lifesaver! Gracias!!
¡A ti!
Incredible video, thank you so much for all the valuable information.❤
I have couple of questions regarding T-usual card.
@@zarabota thank you! What can we use for airport transfers?
Hi Paul, all the alternatives to leave the airport explained in detail here ruclips.net/video/0tMGYYv-8nY/видео.html

Hello, yes, you can purchase it at the airport and use it to ride the train or the local bus, we show you how to do it here ruclips.net/video/0tMGYYv-8nY/видео.html
Will old versions of ticket not work? I’m going next week. I still have t10 casual tickets with a few rides on was hoping to use them.
The old tickets should be valid till 30 April.
Hi! Great video! I’m visiting Barcelona on Monday with my husband and 9 year old. Can I buy my son any kind of discounted card? Is this t-16 card available for non- Spanish citizen?
Thanks there! The restrictions of T-16 are explained in the video, check it out.
Please let me know what's the current price of T-Usual as i will be in Barcelona in October, 2024? Thank you.

Hi, do I need to validate the card when leaving metro or bus? Or is it just validation at the beginning. Also can I use my bank card instead of T-mobilitat like in London?
Hi, no need to validate the card when leaving metro or bus. You can use your bank card only on the buses, you will pay a much more expensive fare with no right to transfers.
