No. All comes down to your contract. I personally have used Montgomery GI Bill in conjunction with Student Loan Repayment. Then, I got deployed and came back and was still able to use Post 911.
Hello, this video was so informative. I have been trying to get more information on the student loan repayment programs for months now. I couldn't seem to ever find a website or person that laid it out as well as you did. Thank you. Question...so let's say that I have my loan for a year now and I want to start using my 30k that is in my contract. How do I go about using it?
Go to the Army SLRP link in the description. Once logged in, you'll have to upload the promissory notes of your loans and they'll have to be approved. You'll also have to fill out a yearly form (I believe DD2475) that you will complete jointly with your student load servicing company showing the balance of the loan. Then, the Army will make loan payments once per year on the anniversary of your enlistment date.
question: I have been receiving the MG GiBill, and i have gotten my first half of the bonus, but i am not getting my kicker...which is also on my contract...what do i do???
It says on the goarmy site that you must waive the Montgomery GI bill in order to be eligible for the SLRP, how did you manage to use the MGIB Selective Reserve and SLRP at the same time? Was it with a certain MOS or something?
Perhaps they started doing this after I joined. As part of my contract I had $30K SLRP and montgomery GI BIll with $200/month kicker. Ended up using them both.
I'm active right now, and i'm going to separate and use the post 9/11 GI bill to go to grad school. Is it possible that I can use the kicker that they're offering for me to go reserves?
Yes, but you have to be actively drilling. If you have a kicker AND are actively drilling, your kicker payment will be added on top of your monthly housing stipend.
Hi. Were you able to find resources to have your CFA exam(s) paid for as a veteran? I know I can use my post 911 GI Bill to get reimbursed for it but I'm hoping there's another way.
Yes. I am using my Post 911 GI Bill. The VA charges me one month of GI Bill for each level of the exam. Nice thing is that you get reimbursed whether you pass or fail. If you're going to be using your GI Bill for an additional degree, I'd probably just pay for the exam out of pocket and use the GI Bill for any full-time education expenses, as that seems to be a better deal
This is how it worked when I did it - (1) You print and sign the DD 2475 from the SLRP website (2) You send it to your loan servicing company (3) Your loan servicing company fills out the principal and interest payments and forwards it to Army SLRP for processing.
I like to know if these benefits apply to air national guard as well and is there any different amount a new enlisted person would get if going to college full time..
already used my montgomery GI bill it ended on 2002 when I got my first bachelors degree...can I still use my post 911 gi bill 36 months...and pursue a different major?
@@LauraZorza Just got a reply from the VA since I was deployed 3 times I was eligible for a little more beyond 36 months I only have a month left, but according to the VA I do not have any but bit of good news I have 150 hours available for any degree that I want so a fresh start, might go back for my masters or second degree...does not pay housing bha or any of that stuff not even books.
m Cave, technically they can extend you out to 48-months. That is what I did. And if you have a disability rating with the VA (all you need is 10% or more) to be approved for Vocational Rehab (VocRehab) and they can pay 100% for your Master’s. That is what I am currently doing.
I believe that MGIB is a federal benefit, so I imagine it is the same for national guard. In regards to the bonus, it is typically paid out in 3 installments of 50%/25%/25%. First payment would probably be around $6,800 ($10,000 less a significant amount of taxes).
Krohn - Education I wont be using post 9/11. Can I still use gi bill for online classes? I'm new to all this and have been esearching.. I just wasnt sure about online schools. Im joining the Arizona national guard.
I joined in 2010, and the way it was back then (I believe), was that most people got the Montgomery GI Bill, but if you wanted student loan repayment it depended on your MOS. They'll tell you what you're getting at MEPS and it'll be in your contract. But it is possible to get both.
Being an officer is quite a bit different because it will depend on how you join. If you go through ROTC you'll probably use a scholarship program rather than most of the things I've highlighted here. If you join through OCS and start out as a specialist, I believe most of these benefits would still apply to you. If you take the second route, everything will be detailed for you in MEPS before you sign your contract.
#1) Yes, you should be able to use GI Bill for Master's (I did). It's other benefits that get a bit trickier when it comes to pursuing a Master's. #2) When I was serving, I believe we had the option of passing GI Bill down to children, but I think there was an additional service requirement with it.
Depends on if your going enlisted or officer. Officers I knew were getting 50,000 in student loan debt payment. Things may have changed in the past couple years
Yes largely the same for National Guard, but the guard often has additional benefits unique to each state. You would have to check with recruiters in you state to determine what extra benefits the Guard offers in your state.
I'm not as familiar with active. I believe you'll have some very good GI Bill options regardless of whether or not you're deployed though and that will likely be your main source for tuition and income during school
Hi Thank you for sharing this informative video. I would like to join the National Guard in California, would I be able to use the Tuition Assistance in another state like Nevada? I also know that it is 4500$ per year, what happens if am out of state the first year and the tuition is 20K then 10K per year. Thank you.
I haven't kept up with tuition assistance since I got out, but I'm quite sure there have been several (negative) changes. You'll have to check specifically with California National Guard for answers to your questions; I don't want to give you an incorrect answer without having a good source.
Great vid. Very Informative. Using this to help me decide if I should go active vs. Reserve so I can afford grad school in a different state.
Michael Persaud, go active duty if you want money for school. Full time is only $392 per month with the Reserve Chapter 1606 GI Bill.

can you use SLRP and montgomry gi bill?
Yes. I used them both at the same time. You just have to remember to apply for each individually.

Do I just fill out the SLRP DD form 2475 myself to get it started? (for Army Reserves)

I like to know if these benefits apply to air national guard as well and is there any different amount a new enlisted person would get if going to college full time..
Can all these benefits be transferable to your children if you don't use them personally?
David l. Johnson Post 911 can be transferred, but there are serve obligations, and you need 36-months active duty.
I am a USAF Reserve in Tech School. Can we use MTA $4500 to have IT certificates training?
You got SLRP and GI bill? I thought you couldn't get both?
Yes. In fact, I joined as a reservist and got Montgomery GI Bill and SLRP. Then, I got deployed and used Post 911 when I came back.
@@krohn-education3906 can that also work for me if I want to do active duty? Thanks for answering by the way :)

What determines your max benefit for SLRP?
It's in your contract. When you sign up you should be told what your maximum SLRP benefit will be.
Is the MGIB the same for national guard ? I'm from Arizona. Also how much is deducted from a 20k bonus?
