Hey Felix, love that you are doing video reviews of older games on the channel! Much deserved for an excellent gem like Celeste! After your recent performance in What's that Track, I think your next review on the channel definitely needs to be Ori and the Blind Forest.
I used to welcome challenging games & strive for 100% / platinum no matter how hard. Now i prefer calmer easier experiences but celeste is one of those that assures you it's okay if you're struggling, it's part of the process. An important life lesson... This makes it easier to play.
Celeste seriously holds a special place in my heart. I played it when I was going through a hard time and the story really hit hard and was pretty emotional. I struggle with everything that she does and It's one of the few games that made me want to complete the game no matter how difficult it was just to see the end of her story and when i reached the end it was one of the mot satisfying gaming moments of my life and don't even get me started with the soundtrack it's a 11/10 game
Celeste is a perfect example that a game doesn’t have to be a interactive Movie with ultrarealistc graphic to be emotional . And the Core-Gameplay of Celeste is just on Point. A Masterpiece!
Today also happens to be its 5th anniversary so your timing couldn’t be more perfect! This game was there during a time where I was in a dark place myself and because of that it hold so much more meaning to me. Can’t recommend it enough.
I can't tell if people are joking when they say it's a "hidden gem...". It literally got nominated for Game of the Year and I feel like everyone has heard of it. It's a gem for sure, but not definitely hidden. 7:55
Thanks for this review Felix! I'm one of those people who has never played Celeste. While I've always heard good things, your review made me consider what I personally would like about it -- and I would definitely have to take that permission to use the assist modes :) Great work!
This is one of those games that I can’t just plan anytime I want. I can play it multiple times but only when I’m a personal place in my life. When I’m going through some emotions and difficult personal problems, I can play this game to find comfort and inspiration
This video is perfect timing as only 2 days ago I completed chapter 9 and as someone who is a bit of a masochist I loved the challenge but nearly lost my mind with how damn long it was but overall I really enjoyed my time with the game and it alongside games like Shovel knight, Cuphead and Ori are must play indie 2d platformers imo next I’m gonna take a look at Hollow Knight
The Messenger definitely belongs on that list. Super enjoyable and challenging 2D action game with a really cool story and mechanics twist halfway through!
Happy 5th anniversary to a great game! Felix, your reviews on games that aren’t brand new will always be appreciated, and they also give the channel something unique that isn’t happening elsewhere!
Considering I absolutely hate platformers as well as “rage games” and yet Celeste managed to become one of my favourite games I’ve played and even tried to 100%… yes it is very worth it.
I actually am not a huge fan of 2D platformers, but I LOVED Celeste. It has a certain irrepressible charm I haven't found in any other game I've played, and the emotional journey Madeline takes is truly touching. I also found that, while I tend to be a somewhat impatient gamer who prefers more relaxing experiences, I liked the way that my losses pretty much always felt fair in Celeste and the game encouraged me to keep going and learn from my mistakes. The fact that I could die on a segment as many times as I wanted without losing any significant progress was a big incentive for me continue trying again and again without getting insanely frustrated.
There are only four games I have played where I wept through the ending credits; only four games that, after playing, I felt I had become a different people after playing them. The Last of Us, The Last of Us: Part 2, Nier: Automata, and Celeste. Celeste is a perfect game. It is one of the best games I have ever played in my life.
Wow I totally forgot how gorgeous Celeste looks, and this video is unexpected reminder for the farewell dlc I didn’t really start for difficulty. I’m definitely visiting Celeste again, and if necessary, I’ll use the assist mode for the dlc. Nice review!
100% deserving of its review on the channel. I love everything about this game. It honestly made me cry at times. And yes, the soundtrack is truly perfection. 💜
This’s actually perfect timing due to Fangamer just announcing a physical release for this game. It’s one very near and dear to my heart due to how brilliantly it tackles mental health, identity and self-worth with some hard but super satisfying gameplay, gorgeous pixel graphics and amazing chiptune soundtrack. I couldn’t reccomend it enough to anyone who somehow has yet to play it.
I got Celeste for myself last summer as it was on sale on the eShop and I was kinda interested in seeing what the hype was about. I went into the game expecting that at some point I'd need to use the Assist Mode options to actually finish it, but I wanted to see how far I could go before I needed to turn to that. ... Turns out, with enough perseverance, I made it through the whole game without even once turning on the Assist Mode! I actually kind of surprised myself! I didn't do any of the B-sides or anything, but just getting through the main game as intended was enough for me to feel pretty proud. This is definitely an amazing game, and I'm not one to usually like 2-D platformers.
I really need to finish this, that collectors edition Fangamer has got going has me tempted in getting a physical copy. On another note can you please look at Fuga Melodies of Steel, the devs didn't break even on it and that's a real shame. Such a great game.
Celeste is one of my favorite games of all time (and I’ve been playing games since the mid-80’s). I just pre-ordered the 5th Anniversary Deluxe Edition on Fangamer 😁
Perfect timing: my cousin gave me a $20 eshop gift card for my birthday last week and was debating whether I want to save it or buy something and this was the first game a friend suggested
No one ever showed the world map, cutscenes and customisation options.. And that all looks brilliant! My thumbs are toast, so I can't play action games any more. But these look like a way so I can experience this game too!
I'm noticing a pattern where Nintendo Life didn't review the most popular Indie games until Felix came along. Maybe we'll get the Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove video next. 😂
Great review, Felix! Celeste is wonderful, I couldn't believe I got a game this good for five bucks. Personally, I found it plenty challenging but not to the point of being punishing. Four words: "You can do this."
Celeste is one of the best games I’ve played during recent years. Still listen to many of the songs from there. The game feels like it was made by Nintendo actually - so polished.
I am one of those who haven’t played it yet. I think it’s time though. I’m going to download it tonight and make it the first new game I play in 2024. New for me anyways lol
Idk why but when they were creating Celeste, I wished the creators got have gotten the lainces for ice climbers and fuse some aspects of it into the game.
To provide a different perspective, i never liked Celeste and I first experienced it on switch. I found that a lot of the platform design in the mid-late game doesn't prioritize fun as much as it prioritizes challenge. Hard games can be fun in their own way, its very satisfying to pull off a difficult maneuver, but the type of extremely small margin for error platforming present in Celeste didn't leave me feeling satisfied, it often left me feeling frustrated, even after completing a hard segment successfully. It has the same gamefeel as something like super meat boy, but where that game works because of its bombastic and punkish style, literally putting your hands and brain (and character) through the meat grinder, I found that Celeste's themes of inner peace and introspection were at odds with its "bash your skull into this wall until the wall caves in" approach to platforming. I know many people here love this type of game, but even for a platformer junky like me I just couldn't get into it.
Its really good on pc where you dont have to worry about analog controls or bad d pads like the ones the pro controler has. I swear that 90% of my deaths were because of shity joy cons and later from the bad d pad. After i tried it on pc it was a cake walk.
Do you think you could review an indie game called Hayfever? It's a precision platformer like Celeste or Super Meat Boy and it's super adorable. I've never seen anyone talk about it but it deserves to be known.
I wanted to retake the game to see if I'm able to complete chapters 8 & 9. Should I go for a replay? I think I won't be ready for the hard stuff otherwise xD
Celeste is easily my third favorite game of all time. If I have one sole complaint, it's that the Celestial Resort feels like a bit of a difficulty spike. Other than that, could not recommend this game enough.
Bought the game for exactly 2.25$ Its very good but i didn’t really get into it Subjectively its not for me, mighy give it another shot eventually because objectively its very good
For another GREAT 10/10 difficult/rewarding sidescroller, with a jawdropping and emotional story, check out Horace. Jon made the review video, and it's an incredible game/experience
Play on, "easy"🤨? Never🙅🏿♂️. That said, I'm kinda of burned on 2d platformers, I prefer metroidvania type of 2d, these days🤷🏿♂️. However, I'm happy that the game had a physical release👍🏿

Celeste is well worth it. Definitely one of my absolute favorites!
Probably one of the best chapters is the last one "Farewell".
"Farewell" felt more like "never leave me," since it took me 20 hours to beat.

I backtracked the signal until it was only good for 3 strawberries

They finally found this hidden gem.
Lol
my favourite part was when celeste said "its celesting time", and celested all over the place
Damn some people really out here in nintendo channels looking for reddit-bullying ammo
6:39 I loved that jingle Felix! Nintendo Life needs more of them. Awesome job on the video!
Thanks for this review Felix! I'm one of those people who has never played Celeste. While I've always heard good things, your review made me consider what I personally would like about it -- and I would definitely have to take that permission to use the assist modes :) Great work!
Thanks for this series of new videos for old reviews! This game has had my eye but I have never played it. I’ll be sure to correct that mistake!
Definitely worth playing this hidden gem. I've already bought 4 copies to support the devs
it's a cultural phenomenon now. Definitely not a hidden gem.
@@bvfgfvbgch4853celeste is the most hidennest of gems, what are you talking about
Been playing 2D plataformers since the 90’s, but Celeste is GOAT in the genre.
A must buy, like Odyssey or BoTW.
This is one of those games that I can’t just plan anytime I want. I can play it multiple times but only when I’m a personal place in my life. When I’m going through some emotions and difficult personal problems, I can play this game to find comfort and inspiration
Very good idea looking for missed reviews Felix!
Felix is really coming into his own in this channel... really glad to see this kid do his thing...great review..keep the great stuff coming Felix 👊👊

legit picked this up on the most recent sale and just finished the other day. Absolute gem of a game and an easy recommendation.

celeste in general is a fantastic game. genuinely one of my favorites and unfortunately i seem to hate alot of what comes out.
Loving the retroactive reviews for such great games some may have missed is awesome! Indies have come such a long way, thanks Felix!

It's a gem because the physical version is expensive af.
Played this game few years ago, loved the platforming & challenging stages!

I only just started playing Celeste a few days ago for the first time and love it! Brutally hard but worth the effort.
Protip: turn off screen shake in the settings (i.e. the shake effect that happens every time you dash). You'll thank me later
Celeste is one of my favorite games of all time (and I’ve been playing games since the mid-80’s). I just pre-ordered the 5th Anniversary Deluxe Edition on Fangamer 😁
love love loveeee this game, but i’m OBSESSED w TowerFall. it’ll forever be my favorite
FYI fangamer is doing a retail version of the game (so you dont have to look at scalpers prices anymore) and the gradient color scheme looks amazing

can you review Ori and the blind forest and Ori and the will of the wisps?
Felix, would love a review of Golf Story, I realized the other day you guys haven't reviewed that switch classic yet
That Kirby plush is amazing. ❤
Idk why but when they were creating Celeste, I wished the creators got have gotten the lainces for ice climbers and fuse some aspects of it into the game.
Is there a way I can buy a physical without Limited Run's title or name? I don't want a digital copy of any game.

Not similar at all for the most part but Aeterna Noctis is a sick game and has some wild platforming that’s really challenging and reminded me of this
