You nailed it. It's as if so many are getting paid by the word. I don't care about launch angle-I don't care about Exit Velocity or what anybody had for breakfast, just the basic stats-Homers- BA-RBI'sS-Runs Scored-Stolen Bases-Wins-ERA that means something...
You said it perfectly. I have heard in interviews Vin talk about the importance of remaining quiet. He talked about how he loves to hear the roar of the crown. That's what got him into announcing play by play in the first place......hearing the roar of the crowd.
Red Sox fan here; agreed, listening to him call a game is mesmerizing! The one time I could imagine having NO TV is having Vin Scully describing news, sports, and everything else on the radio. The only way I agree to the no TV rule would be that there is only ONE radio station in the world, and ONLY Vin Scully gets to speak on the one radio station!
I grew up with this iconic story teller. Many nights I had my transistor radio submerged beneath my pillow. Listening to Vin, I grew to love the stories he told of the Dodgers, and because of this, became a life long fan. In my opinion, he was the absolute best in the business. Thanks for the years of unparalleled excellence, Vin Scully!
I remember when my family would go to Dodger games with my grandpa. He would always bring a radio and listen to the game on there as well as see it live because he refused to see the Dodgers without listening to Vin Scully. Of course, the people sitting around us never had any complaints.
Nobody ever minded when Vin was on. We went the night before this game, some guy asked "Do you mind if I have the radio on?" We said, "Why do you even need to ask? Please turn it all the way up."
I always remember when my dad said that to me in a text when I told him the last game was done.... “throughout all the years and Dodger gimmicks, Vin was the one constant. Nothin lasts forever” ain’t that the truth
Every time I hear Vin I'm reminded of just how lucky I was to spend the majority of my life listening to him call Dodgers games. One of the all-time GOATs in any sport.
it'd make my dad happy considering he's been a Dodgers fan for nearly 55 years he was jealous when I got 2 go 2 dodgertown a couple months ago for a training league
OMG he was there for Gibson's homer I was almost born when it happened my mom was set 2 have me on Halloween when suddenly Gibson's homer occurred and my dad started jumping up and down screaming and my mom awoke from her dead sleep and nearly had a heart attack and almost gave birth 2 me in bed
What a perfect ending to a perfect career for a legend. Vin Scully, in his final appearance for his beloved Dodgers, perhaps best known for the dramatic call of Kirk Gibson's walk-off on game 1 of the '88 World Series, ends with a walk off home run, securing the division title for his team. Poetry. How can you not be romantic about baseball?
As a Dodger fan for over 40 years, baseball doesn't have the same joy for me since Vin retired. Today is a sad day for all baseball fans. RIP . Your voice was heaven sent.
I watched this moment live on my baseball cable package. My son and I love the Dodgers and Vin...my son said watch Culberson do it...son of a gun if he actually did it...lol...Obviously God needs another play by play announcer in heaven...rest easy Vin...your legend will live forever.
Crazy how this one highlight of Charlie Culberson turned into a historic Dodger moment considering Vin Scully called it for his last home game. Vin was a greatest to ever do it & his legend will forever live on.
I was there! we were all sad in the 10th and all of a sudden the walk off! we did not even know who hit it we just went from sad to ecstatic in about 3 seconds hahaha
Following the Dodgers without Vin Scully is gonna feel awkward for a minute. I just got used to following the Lakers without Chick. Damn no matter what, we out here in SoCal get the best of everything!
I'm sad. I saw where this was his last game at Dodger Stadium, but I thought it was just that, his last game at Dodger Stadium. I tried listening to him one more time tonight thinking he was going to be in San Diego, but there was no Vin Scully. :( I'm gonna miss him
Was sitting at this game on the left field side… for a day game and being in the regular season the fans were sure loud. That’s how much he meant to dodger fans and I came back to this once I found out about the tragic news.
Such a great moment. I love how Vinny let's the celebration happen without inserting himself into it and then how the players all acknowledged Vin at the end. Beautiful ending. Now it's time to get ready for the real season.
I was at this game. We took the MetroLink from Simi Valley down to Union Station and then took a short bus ride to Dodger Stadium. I had a cast on my leg due to a car wreck three weeks earlier. Damned if I wasn't gonna make it to that game. The walk-off HR was hit and I couldn't help but to jump up and down on one leg. And the the tribute to Vin after the game. No one left their seats. I'm so glad I was there. Your voice and stories will never be forgotten. RIP Vin. You were a master of your trade.
I'll never forget me and my late wife were there best game ever were able to go last minute she passed just a few months later I think about this game often 💙
Just makes you want to cry when you hear the great scully announce such a humble wonderful human man CCC -Charley clutch culberson help win championship game!
Vin Scully is one of a kind, listening to him reading from a phone book would be sheer pleasure. Gonna miss those warm, dulcet words, and his remembrances of the days in Dodger history.
We were there to celebrate my husband’s Bday. The most memorable day ever. Our hearts were filled with joy and sadness all at the same time. Good Bye Vin. You were and always will be the voice of the Dodgers. I have been listening to you since I was 10 years old. Love ya, Mr. Scully❤️
Thank you for posting this it was great to hear I have two moments about Vin that I will never forget 1.I can remember the first time I heard Vin Scully's voice it was 3/31/98 and it was on TV but not in the way you might think it was in a video game didn't think much of it other than nice voice (his video game commentary was very basic until his last appearance in 05 it became a little more in-depth) and I said to myself I got to hear this guy more so I ordered the MLB extra innings package and from the first live broadcast I heard I was hooked and every year since I've ordered either MLB.tv or MLB extra innings his descriptive ability is one-of-a-kind (as a legally blind man I felt like I was in the seats at dodger Stadium) i've lost count of how many nights in the last 10 years or so I could put a Dodgers game on my computer turn the monitor off and still feel like I was watching every second of it here in Massachusetts he has made for a lot of late nights for me but I wouldn't have it any other way 2. I take you back to 3/22/14 The Dodgers were in Australia to take on the Arizona Diamondbacks to open the MLB regular-season The game was scheduled to start 4 AM Eastern time approximately three hours before first pitch my aunt passed away in her sleep needless to say I was awake most of that evening speaking with law enforcement officials etc. etc. it was about 3:45 AM Eastern the house was finally emptied of medical examiner law enforcement etc. I watched the dodger broadcast and for that three hours or so I was able to calm down for lack of a better term the level of comfort he gave me was immeasurable
The very first baseball broadcast I ever heard was Vin Scully on the radio. The very first MLB game I attended was at Dodger Stadium. I had no idea that grass could be that green. Vin was a constant companion thru the years on the radio and TV. They say that a picture is worth a thousand words. I contend that one word from Vin was a picture all on it's own.
I went to belmont high school in 2004-2007. I lived across the street from the high school. I used to fall asleep listening to vin even as a little kid going to Union Ave Elem school. I would be excited to talk to a friend of mine about the game. I had a small black radio that used 2 AA batteries. Good times.
I was just a kid hearing he's voice on tv now I'm 31 and feels we are not to hear his voice he brings back good memories of when I was a kid in streets of LOS ANGELES. ...enjoy retirement legend
He wasn't with the Dodgers for long, but he seemed to be liked amongst the team and the rest of baseball. Miss your presence Mr. Scully. True Blue for Life.

One of the greatest things about Vin Scully is that he knows when to talk, and when to remain quiet.

I was so happy for this moment! Today was truly bittersweet to bid Vin farewell with this glorious and historic victory.
I knew something magical was gonna happen in Scully's last ever home broadcast I appropriately called it Veni, Vidi, Vin Scully
