- The Coloured Canyon is a natural wonder located in the Sinai Peninsula, Egypt, and we visited it while staying in Dahab last winter. We drove for about 1,5h to where our trip started, walked and climbed for an hour or a bit more, then had lunch in an oasis and headed back. The trip took about 6 hours. It's doable with little kids but a man who could carry them and climb down to the canyon and up the hills is needed. Multiple tour operators offer trips there in Dahab and other Sinai resorts.
The Coloured Canyon is renowned for its stunning array of colorful rock formations and winding passages. The canyon features narrow passageways and towering cliffs, creating a maze-like network of trails that wind their way through the rocky landscape. There are numerous towering spires, jagged cliffs, and sculpted arches.
The Canyon was formed over millions of years through a combination of geological processes including erosion, weathering, and the deposition of various minerals. The different hues of the canyon walls are the result of different types of rock and mineral deposits, such as sandstone, limestone, granite, and quartz, which have been exposed to the elements over time.
