- Installing a Myford ML7R On A Bench - Workshop Topics. I need more space and this Myford ML7R does not have a stand. I was concerned about the noise level when the machine was running so I mounted it as shown in the video. You may find these articles interesting - as I mention it in the video: www.mainsteam....

Perfect for me thanks. I've just bought an ML10 and one of my concerns was what to mount it on and how to mount it.
Cracking job on the lathe. Looks really well. I’ve never been a Nu-Tool fan either and can speak from experience as I worked there. Lots of cheap Chinese nastiness.
I find that those cheap carbide cutting tools work better with a little touch up on a green stone. A fresh edge works wonders.
I bought myself an hydraulic lifting table that is just higher than the stand/bench. Makes it an easy job
If I had the space, I would get one of those . . .
Its amazing can be achieved with so little if you are creative!
When are you going to check thar it's cutting parallel ?
Probably in the next episode - it is perfectly accurate by the way . . . . .
You ever noticed how Myford Ltd and RDG tools are the same company? or atleast the same owners
I knew that anyway, it has been like that for some years now, but thanks for the observation . . . .
A good clean job there. Your old man would be proud of you!
Sorta how they built the Pyramids kinda.
Well observed, I suppose it is a similar principle }:-)))
That was good, I enjoyed it. Just wondering how you will adjust if it is turning a taper, given that it's just sitting on the kneeling pads?
Turning a taper has nothing whatsoever to do with how the lathe is mounted . . . . . I could hang it from the ceiling and turn taper with it using the compound slide or tailstock offset. . . . . .
@@keithappleton My apologies. I didn't make myself very clear. I am not particularly erudite. What I meant to say was, how will you adjust if the machine is turning an unintentional taper? The bed is bolted to the chip tray which I assume is far from rigid, and this is then sat on the rubber. OK, I realise it's probably not rubber.. What I'm trying to say is if there is any twist in the bed, how will you jack or shim it to realign when there is nothing rigid to react against?
I have a wonderful set off tungsten carbide holderscand cutting tips these are interchangeable that use all three points and will fit perfectly with the myford. I used to be a tool maker then after an experimental machine shop operator at bae aerospace I still have all mt tool box with all the precision measuring instruments, sine bars. Everything for the toolmakers cabinet. I loved working on the myford it was my best machine. small precise and a tough little girl.
How come you didn’t bolt the machine to the bench? Aren’t you worried about the possibility of it falling?
I never worry, and mounted to the chip tray it's not falling anywhere. I didn't want to fix it to the bench because then the sound of it running would be amplified by the hollow kitchen cabinet underneath - and I have neighbours . . .
Anyway i can get the technical specifications of the Myford ML7R?

Beautiful! I just got myself a Myford, too, it really is a fun machine to work with.
The clutch mechanism is missing quite a few parts though - the engaging lever for example,
and some sort of leverage to connect the clutch to that lever.
Could you - only if you have the time and desire to do so, of course - maybe take a few shots of the clutch mechanism,
how it engages and what parts it is made of, so I can assess whether it'd be possible for me to make the missing parts by myself?
Sincerely
Adrian
Sorry, I have never had to take it apart but it looks like a simple spring & cam operated device.
@@keithappleton Thanks, maybe I can reconstruct the way it should operate based on that
Keith, clever use of cribbing!
Well as my boss said after completing a similar job " looks good, now we expect great things from you from now on!"
For some reason your frase "the Myford is installed" reminded me of Armstrong's "the eagle has landed". Thanks for sharing.
Cheers
Thanks for sharing!
⭐😃👍
very impressed
Archimedes would be proud!
