Aw Miss Kay's story about her boys bringing home the kiddos that we a little less fortunate or who were bullied, and they helped them and made sure they showered and had clean clothes. That is just so precious. THAT is why I love this family. They have pure hearts and love the Lord.

My washer is about 3 years old. I bought a simple machine with no computer or electronic stuff on it. Maytag commercial grade machine with 25 year warranty. No bells or whistles. 4 water level, 3 temp settings and 4 cycles. Knob to turn to settings. $1000. Love my simple machine

I bought a Maytag washer and dryer 36 years ago while I had a discount at Montgomery Wards as a short term employee while I was studying to become a dental hygienist. Almond color...the new thing after avocado green appliances. It’s still doing a great job! They don’t make ‘em like they used to.
These stories remind me of my father's family he is from a family of 18 they picked fruit they weren't rich but they had each other, I love watching your pod cast my uncle Jim is the last of my aunts & Uncle I have so many first, second, third cousin

Even on the West coast, wash day in the 1950s was a big or an all day event. Most suburban/rural houses did not have dryers and were still using cloth diapers that had to be hung. If the father was a blue-collar worker, his uniform shirt had to be starched. That entailed a pot on the stove with a powdered starch/shirt that needed constant stirring. Young girls in the family could earn allowance by ironing, $1 a bag. More often than not, wives did not work, blue-collar or white-collar, so trying to fix meals around all the normal daily chores was i-n-t-e-r-e-s-t-i-n-g, to say the least. My siblings laugh when today's doctors think we have 'tennis' elbows, runner's knees or bad backs from surfing or camping. Nope! Hard physical work in our youth, thus the ongoing debate of what age 'physical' labor is appropriate. Ms. Kay is sweet, she has a cute chuckle.
Always awesome to listen to someone else that grew up poor. My only family down fall was my parents did try to get along and ended up in a divorce. There was a lot of friction going on. I always enjoyed sitting up in this tree because I felt I was closer to God of which helped me to cope with what was going on.

I have a 23 year old son. A year or 2 After he graduated Highschool, he told me he was glad that I always punished him and made him behave. I was surprised, but he said he was seeing how many of his friends he went to school with whose parents let them get away with everything where turning into hellions. My son is now married to a wonderful Christian girl we love and they have a almost 2 year old and another on the way. Raise them up in the ways of the Lord…… That is so so true! I was so humble growing up, we washed by hand and hanged them out.. Not afraid to go back to that
My dad is a god fearing man, a lover of Christ and fighting stage 4 cancer. Anything I can do to get Phil or Si to just give him a 5 min call?... hes from WV but lives in Va now, I'm in Fl and cant afford to go see him so I'm at least trying to do something for him I know hed love...

I have a 23 year old son. A year or 2 After he graduated Highschool, he told me he was glad that I always punished him and made him behave. I was surprised, but he said he was seeing how many of his friends he went to school with whose parents let them get away with everything where turning into hellions.
My son is now married to a wonderful Christian girl we love and they have a almost 2 year old and another on the way.
Raise them up in the ways of the Lord……

We got free and reduced lunches too but with that being said the Taconic plant that my dad worked for was on strike soooooo most of us got that and I do believe when that happened it actually helped the kids who were always on free and reduced.... northern Minnesota late 70's early 80's
