CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Following her separation from Diego, Frida (Salma Hayek) cuts her hair.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
After being attached to a number of actors, directors, and producers, this long-gestating biography of one of Mexico's most prominent, iconoclastic painters reaches the screen under the guiding hand of producer/star Salma Hayek. Hayek ages some 30 years onscreen as she charts Frida Kahlo's life from feisty schoolgirl to Diego Rivera protégée to world-renowned artist in her own right. Frida details Kahlo's affluent upbringing in Mexico City, and her nurturing relationship with her traditional mother (Patricia Reyes Spindola) and philosophical father (Roger Rees). Having already suffered the crippling effects of polio, Kahlo sustains further injuries when a city bus accident nearly ends her life. But in her bed-ridden state, the young artist produces dozens upon dozens of pieces; when she recovers, she presents them to the legendary -- and legendarily temperamental -- Rivera (Alfred Molina), who takes her under his wing as an artist, a political revolutionary, and, inevitably, a lover. But their relationship is fraught with trouble, as the philandering Rivera traverses the globe painting murals, and Kahlo languishes in obscurity, longing to make her mark on her own. Frida was directed by Julie Taymor, whose Broadway production of The Lion King won her international acclaim.

Something interesting about Frida cutting her hair and changing her style of dress: Diego loved when she wore her hair and wore clothes in a more traditional Mexican style, so by cutting her hair short and trading her traditional Mexican dresses and hairstyles for a more western, androgynous look, she not only gave herself a new beginning, she got her revenge on a man that betrayed her.
Which says a lot about how well he respected her, don't you think? Before Diego Frida's style was pretty masculine. That's not an insult, but really where she was happiest. And Diego just didn't care about that.

@@lettersforchrist Iiiii'm not sure it's working. Although probably because it's been spread far enough...!
I love the scene that follows this, when Frida finds comfort from Diego's first wife, Lupe, who drinks with her about their sorrows about Diego and tries to strengthen her.

@@lettersforchrist no thanks 🥰
at 1:37 - 1:44 the verse says "I want to be free and live my life and be with whoever I want"
I can relate
"God give me strength as I try to find it" 😔🤦🏻♂️
Ashley Hernandez it’s actually, “God give me strength because I’m dying to go looking for him”
More like she is too in love with this one person who is no good to her, and as much as she wishes she could just put it all aside, she can’t.

I had definitely had one of these nights, when you hit rock bottom and see where are you in life with no hope to show for. Death is not an escape and living is not worth it. Great movie though.
Numbuh 5 indeed no escape from death
honestly dishonest I’m exactly in that position
I had a moment where I chopped my hair like that. Felt good but still couldn't escape what was going on. Never did that again tho lol things will change for the better eventually

@@lettersforchrist jesus didnt want us to wallow in shame for our sins, his power came from truly knowing himself, and we all have the same power to know ourselves and to forgive ourselves for our mistakes
Salma should’ve gotten an Oscar for her portrayal of Frida! This film was brilliant and she looked so identical to Frida it was like Frida was still alive and playing herself!
I agree. She nailed this role.
She definitely it! It was a tough competition that year. Julianne Moore (Far From Heaven), Diane Lane (Unfaithful), Nicole Kidman (The Hours), Renee Zellweger (Chicago) and Salma. My least favorite was Zellweger.
Wish Salma had gotten at least one of the major awards for this film.
Agree. Kidman win is a travesty and shambolic...!!! It was supposed to be Salma..!!
Seriously!!!
My mom and I got into a heartbreaking argument. She bought up my father who was someone who had extremely sexist views. They both do. Just like Frida I cut my hair short. I cut off with it the roots that my mother and father had implanted on me, all the thoughts of sadness and I became a pelona as she would call it. While my hair grows back, so will the happiness that once resided inside of me. Frida is someone I really look up to and I will continue because she was just an amazing woman who didn’t care what other thought of her. Many things you can learn from her.
When you’re at your lowest because of some man. We’ve all been there.
and sister. i can’t even imagine dealing with that level of betrayal

@@sir_excuseme THANKS
I LOVED this sequence. Real despair in the story and the song drives it home so well. I loved all the little visual effects in the movie too, so well sprinkled throughout, like the Frida in the painting here just sadly collapsing her position in the chair.
"There have been two big accidents in my life, Diego; the trolley and you. You are by far the worse."
I’m kinda mad at her sister for betraying her like that. Frida was there for her through her abusive marriage and she repaid her by sleeping with her husband.
This SONG. MY GOD. The passionate despair, how exquisite
This music is so POWERFUL
Your spouse having an affair with some floozy is one thing, but with your own family, that is just rock bottom low.
Paloma Negra, performed by Lila Downs. Originally made famous by Chavela Vargas. Buy the whole soundtrack, you won't be disappointed.
FuriousMB this is performed by chavela Vargas not Lila downs
Powerpuff boy
Vargas was one of her lovers, wasn't she,?
Yes she still alive in her 80s now. She appears in the film singing Larona.
@@redstar7292 she passed away years ago.
What Im wondering is WHY?!
Why Would her sister Betray her Like this?!
I expected this from Diego BUT HER?
MY GOD.
Diego was famous for being able to charm the pants off women. She had a abusive husband, was divorced, had low self esteem and was lonely and someone was kind to her and made her feel attractive at a time in her life when she was vulnerable. That would be my guess going by what I know about the situation. It was a f**k up. People do f**k up
I'm crying...I'm CRYING!
Porque?
The song is so beautiful I like spanish langage
Ngl she looks good with short hair
Frida looks great with short hair.
This song is called Paloma Negra ( I could have spelled that wrong )
Erik Kidd its spelled perfect, the singer is Chavela Vargas btw
It was the protest as reflection of her great dissapointment in Diego.
I can't fully get mad at Diego says he was pretty much real with the fact that he was Unfaithful but you knew better than the Marry a guy who cheats on you what's up and she married him twice that was dumb as ever
He should of just left her alone than. Not an excuse.
It wasn't even that; both had multiple affairs, but Frida was fine with everyone except her sister, and he still had to sleep with Cristina anyway.
@@ajallen9674 honestly it feels like frida cheated on him because she basically got "permission" from Diego's actions. I feel like frida could have actually been monogamous
The thing is she completely loved him. Was dependent on him to an extent. She knew the risks and she took them. She completely loved him but Diego’s lack of monogamy ruined tgat
She basically signed up for it.
I got to see the painting based on this scene in NYC a year and a half ago. It’s one of my favorite paintings because of the sad meaning behind it. Frida is also one of my all time favorite painters too. Salma Hayek absolutely nailed this role.
I did this, this year in July. Took me 3 year's for my hair to grow down to my tailbone. Did I feel better after...
Absolutely😏
1:50 How did they make that painting moving work so well?!
It's not a painting. It's split screen footage/editing of Salma showcasing superb make up skills. Genius, no?
I came here because it feels like I hit rock bottom. :(
This is my favourite Painting ever because even though it is sad she also gets her power back
Diego nunca mereció a Frida, ella era mucho para el
Diego era un sociópata incapaz de querer y de sentir afecto por nadie que no fuese él.
Era un asco de persona
La película numero uno hasta ahorita de Salma Hayek
The "Mormon" advertisement was definitely not appropriate for this video. lol
My favorite part

Frida had an appropriate reaction to cutting off her hair, her husband had an affair with her sister
En español 😍😍😍😍
Such a great movie and music.
This music is so dramatic.
Maybe she was drunk when she cut her hair😂
Volim ovaj film
Anybody know the song name please??!?
Paloma Negra - Performed by Chavela Vargas
the name of this version of this song please ? I'm going insane!!
who has link of this film plz !!!
I kind of like her new hair down.
I love Frida very much…I just wish she was able to permanently stay away from that pinche puerco, that just hurt her. She deserved better.
I have been in Boston too long, I need to get out to Arizona again, or maybe California! I am used the culture and miss it much. Ever been to IBT's?
THIS IS WHO REMA WAS TALKING ABOUT
What is this song called?
What is the name of the painting. When she cut off hire
Self Portrait with cropped hair/1940
Creo que se veía mejor con el pelo no creen?✂✂✂
I did something similar (no booze) after I realized my ex and I, one of the most wonderful men I’ve ever met, just weren’t going to work out. Nothing wrong with him or me; just better as friends. I usually just trim the ends every 6-8 weeks, but I cut off about an inch and a half or so. I woke up the next morning in shock.
Funny enough, I looked in the mirror today, and I actually like it. I’ve wanted to wear it short for a few years now, but life just got in the way. 😝
Pulling off that eboy, kpopper look lmao
Wait what is the song called
