    time and labor.

    Yeah, I've been researching for my own purchase. Another builder split door open and learned it was already rotting on bottom aa door is framed with wood and not treated in any way. Wood or skin to trim. Glad I learned this before I ordered my trailer. Jeesh..
    I'm thinking build my own, use skin and try to avoid all the frustrations...
    Kudos on getting it done!

  • @jamesrodriquez2863
    @jamesrodriquez2863 Год назад

    First of all, you did good. The most important thing is that it's functioning how it's supposed to and that it's securely attached. With that said, I think it would have been better to take the inside part of the door apart...separate it completely from the outside and frame. Then you would have seen that the door is hollow and you could have installed a 2x4 or whatever was needed to to give the latch a really strong place to mount through. It also would have given you the opportunity to insulate the door and work on the aluminum trim piece either in a vice or on your workbench. Still, it came out nice and does what it's supposed to do. Good work!

    • @JoelTremblayCA
      @JoelTremblayCA  Год назад

      Yes, I started trying to take the door apart but the way it is built, I would have had to dismantle the entire thing... Which I did not feel confident enough to get back together. I found a different way to insulate the door. Thanks for watching!

    Well done Joel, I am embarking on the same project "when it gets warmer" on a side door. Sometimes a seemingly small job takes all the time. My trailer is one inch to tall for the garage door, so in the driveway it must be.

  • @mikehenry7156

    Probably the best video I've seen on this process. Question though, in every video I've watched EVERYONE hogs out the door and aluminum trim on the latch side of the door trying to get the latch mechanism to "tuck" (there're some REAL "shoulda -left-it-to-someone-who-knows-how-to-use-tools vids out there). Why not remove the aluminum door trim and work cleanly?

    • @JoelTremblayCA
      @JoelTremblayCA  3 года назад

      Thank you! The reason I left the trim on mine is that it was attached to the outter trim and frame. If I wanted to take the trim off, I would of had to dismantle the entire door. I agree, a clean work surface would've been ideal.

    • @mikehenry7156
      @mikehenry7156 3 года назад +2

      No doubt it would be a hassle. I haven't taken mine apart yet, but I had to replace the wood core on an RV door once, the whole thing came apart with screws. I'll put my hands where my mouth is in a bit and let you know how the idea worked for me.

    • @geraldhenrickson7472
      @geraldhenrickson7472 2 года назад

      Cargo trailer doors are infuriating, some have a full steel frame, others have a partial steel frame and what is worse you usually cannot take the aluminum trim off w/o investing a day. Believe it or not…this install was easier than most because he chose to avoid any a steel framing. Great work i must say.

    Geesgh! WHAT A PAIN THE GRASS! I'm dreading having to do my 1" thick cargo trailer door! And I can't even find one for a 1" door! It seems they're ALL for the standard 1-1/2" ( I guess) thick RV doors. At least on Amazon anyway. Any tips u can pass on from your painstakingly tedious installation? • @JoelTremblayCA
      @JoelTremblayCA  Год назад

      I could have but to get the door panel off I would have had to take the entire door off the trailer. It was built funny from factory. Thanks for watching

  • @scottjohnson3788

      It definitely varies from latch to latch. I didn't start with a set dimension because I wanted it to fit. It's not that bad once you start! Take your time, measure 30x and cut once :) good luck!

    Hey I watched this thinking this guy is where I was 2 years ago planning on installing the same latch .
    Well done, I didn't do mine though , it's still in the box!
    Not all cargo trailer doors are made the same so I went to plan B .
    I do want to say though that someone can now latch you in as it is !
